I've been told via Whatsapp by a MN'er this morning who used to be a member of the ante-natal group that there's a Facebook group, but that they won't accept anyone or her back Hmm (a bit weird if you ask me, but each to their own, and have really left a PND suffering mum feeling like shit, but I doubt they care in their "clique")

So are there any August Mums left on here willing to chat, without connecting to Faceache?

Hi Tallblue! wish i was somewhere hotter. I'm in Scotland and walking the buggy in the snow just now is not much fun.

I've tried a few different sippy cups too but Dd just chews them at the moment!

GingerCuddleMonster · 01/02/2015 17:37

evening all, so sorry I've been quiet I've worked 10hour shifts over the weekend and back in tomorrow at 9am Envy.

welcome Till banana wasn't a huge hot with us either! and we've managed a silly cup with no valve but it's a super cheap one from the local supermarket own brand (Tesco) and it's the only one he has taken to after spending a small fortune on mam and nuk tommee tippee ones Grin.

Ds drinks from a cup. With no lid. Currently I have to help him. But he will learn. I only bought one tt free flow cup but I tried it myself and despite how is should work, it only works when baby sucks strongly. Got rid of the lid and it was fine. The key is to tilt the cup only a little so the baby can help with his lips and tongue and take the water in.

Does anybody have problem with more lumpy textures? I find ds does not like anything but very smooth texture if spoon fed. But most of all he likes to take control; I turned my head for one second today and had to wipe carrot and potatoes not only from the floor but cabinets, etc.

GingerCuddleMonster · 01/02/2015 21:17

Naz were ok with lumps but I sometimes give him a reduced sugar rusk as finger food or mash things with a fork rather than puree it, but I'm starting to figure out that DS really isnt fussy, he stole me celery today Hmm.

Just done some research and apparently this is another issue babies with reflux have; problem with lumps! I hate reflux & weaning is going to be a very long slow process here

GingerCuddleMonster · 02/02/2015 05:34

oh no Naz Sad, will the reflux calm down/go away anytime soon? I have no idea about reflux.

Hi Ginger

Had a few sleepless nights here. Dd has yet another cold and she just won't sleep more than an hour or two without me holding her. So been sleeping propped upright in bed with her in my arms. Its killing me slowly!!

How is everyone else doing? Hopefully avoiding coughs and colds unlike here Confused

GingerCuddleMonster · 04/02/2015 18:13

hi felkov oh my that sounds exhausting Sad poor you, ds was a bit like that with bronchialitis, but he would sleep in the bouncy chair.

were doing ok, continuing our weaning process, we've found out DS hates sweede Grin.

we had a terrible sleepless night last night, think i managed about 30 mins before 5am then a better stretch.

Dd just won't settle at the moment. It's not the waking up that worries me as much as the fact she just will not settle again. She'll fall asleep on me but the moment I move her into the crib she wakes up and howls. I've tried waiting for 20 mins, warming the crib, putting in something that smells of me, rocking, patting, everything...She just won't stay asleep. She's been really hard work today due to overtiredness and I am ill too and very grumpy now!

GingerCuddleMonster · 04/02/2015 21:52

oh god, seems the August babies have decided it's time.to be grumpy. DS is in a strop tonight, I didn't think babies could actually have a temper tantrum Shock. He's dry, fed, warm, calpol given for really sore bleeding gum where tooth is cutting, but still he is screaming at me if I put him down, he's currently laying asleep on my chest/stomach Envy

Sorry to hear it's rough nights all round. Last night not too bad here but our day started at 5 with piercing shrieks and yells. Looking at Wonder Weeks we have the worst of this leap yet to come... There's so much going on for them now tho', what new tricks and games are your babies enjoying? I made LO a paper carrier bag with empty bottles and boxes in it yesterday and she was fascinated. Rolling and sitting up are coming on a treat and she is also fascinated by doing very small movements with her fingers, the little oddball!

BeansMrSeanAndHeinz · 06/02/2015 17:17

Another August baby here - mind if I join? We are test driving carrot this weekend so watching weaning with interest.

cookielove · 06/02/2015 20:10

Hello all :)

Ds ate a whole ice cube of sweet potato yesterday :) and all his porridge today! So happy!

He is sleep is up and down, he has got a terrible cold :( fx it shifts soon.

He is so good at rolling onto his side from his back and has now officially rolled from front to back 4 times :)

Nazly · 06/02/2015 20:51

Welcome beans. It is sort of quite here... How is everyone else is doing with weaning? I made a couple of veggie purees and froze them, luckily I only made 3-4 portions of each, cause I am now going to give him a more balanced food from next week with protein and starchy food. He will be 6 months next week and according to nhs apart from a few things that needs to be avoided he can have everything.

Does anybody else find some foods more difficult to digest & ending up in poo? I had the first experience of this sort today with spinach

mrsmilkymoo · 06/02/2015 22:09

I've seen bits of undigested carrot, broccoli and breadcrumbs in dd's nappy!

Tallblue · 07/02/2015 05:20

Same here with un digested food- I panicked for a few seconds thinking it was blood but looked closer and found bits of carrot!
I'm travelling with DD long haul on a trip back to the UK soon, so tried her with an Ella's Kitchen pouch as this is what we'll use when travelling. She loved it, much more than my cooking efforts- I think we'll need to keep it to a minimum or she'll want pouch food all the time.
Speaking of the UK I'm a little worried about the temperature as DD has never been out the the country we are in. When she was born it was mid 40's and it's never been below around 25 degrees here. She normally wears a vest and maybe leggings, generally barefoot unless the AC is chilly. For our UK trip we've got a warm pram suit, hat and gloves. Does anyone have any advice/ things I might not have considered for keeping her warm when out and about?

mrsmilkymoo · 07/02/2015 09:01

We tried dd with a pouch from m&s which she also loved! Quite disheartening! It looked and smelled disgusting too, who would mix pea, broccoli, parsnip, pear and quinoa flakes?!

For keeping her warm we would normally just go for layers. Have you got cardigans for her? And the pram we have is very warm and cosy as it has a special cocoon which is super snug. You can also get wraps to use in car seats. As you're not supposed to use a coat in a car seat the wraps are a great way to keep her snug. Ours is just a maxi cosi one but tuppence and crumble ones are popular too.

Nazly · 07/02/2015 10:18

I guess it depends where in the UK, down in south I go with three layers, vest, shirt and a jacket or coat or a light snowsuit which can come off indoors

Hat yes, but we do not need gloves it is not that cold...

felkov · 07/02/2015 16:17

Hi folks same here with the broccoli experience. makes for um.... "interesting" nappy changes!

Tallblue have you got a plastic raincover for your pram/buggy? i use it when its very windy as well as when its wet/snowy.

get a fleece hat with ear flaps if you're going somewhere cold in uk. They are more windproof than a knitted hat (I'm in Scotland so Dd is out in terrible weather most days!)

WhyNotSmile · 07/02/2015 17:40

We have a tooth! Just peeking through, lower front left! He's a bit unsettled, so sleep not great, but not horrific either. Have given him some turnip (actually, MIL decided to give it to him) and sweet potato. So far I'm not sure he has swallowed anything much, but he has sucked it in and given it a good taste before spitting it back out! Going to try BLW mainly, but we just haven't been eating things that were suitable the past couple of nights.

BeansMrSeanAndHeinz · 07/02/2015 18:16

tallblue blanket as well, another layer you can easily remove or put back. And maybe try naps in a travel cot so dd gets used to different beds.

Nazly · 07/02/2015 20:22

Yeyyyyy whynot to the first tooth. What were the signs before it appeared ? Did you use any medicine?

I feel maybe a feed or two is being replaced by solids gradually here...

WhyNotSmile · 07/02/2015 21:37

Nazly, he's been dribbling a lot since before Christmas, and has had very red cheeks with eczema gradually getting worse. We could see the teeth in the gum, and it's been working its way up for a couple of weeks. Two days ago it for really red and there was a little white mark; the mark became a corner of tooth yesterday!

mrsmilkymoo · 07/02/2015 22:24

nazly we've been using bonjela and also tried teetha granules. Think dd is about to get her second tooth. Brushing the first one has not been fun!
