I've been told via Whatsapp by a MN'er this morning who used to be a member of the ante-natal group that there's a Facebook group, but that they won't accept anyone or her back Hmm (a bit weird if you ask me, but each to their own, and have really left a PND suffering mum feeling like shit, but I doubt they care in their "clique")

So are there any August Mums left on here willing to chat, without connecting to Faceache?

Sounds like all the babies are pretty much at the same stage of decorating the floor/ceiling/walls with food then. I tried Dd with some banana this morning thinking it would be a hit but she seemed totally disinterested. Her favourite foods so far seem to be cabbage and broccoli. weird kid Confused

Going to try one of those Ellas kitchen pouches tonight (they were on offer in our local supermarket) as were going away next weekend so I'm hoping we can just take a load of those with us. Anyone had success with them? they seem to have quite a lot of sugar in?

cookielove · 12/02/2015 20:01

We have used the ella pouches. Ds really likes the pears and mango. He turned his nose up at the prunes. Grin

I also have made my own and his favourite is sweet potato he will eat loads of it. And is very partial to yogurt now! I am gonna make some meals at the weekend and freeze them for him.

Nazly · 12/02/2015 22:53

Cookie what sort of yogurt did you get? Just normal one or those tiny kids one which has calcium vitamin d?

WhyNotSmile · 13/02/2015 17:46

MIL have DS one of those Ella's Kitchen pouches last night - strawberry and apple. He wasn't that interested, which I was glad enough about as it was almost his become and I didn't think his tummy would be helped by having sugary food in it. I tasted the contents and it appears to be mainly sugar!! Really really sweet.

I'm currently spending quite a lot of time teething to work out how to stop MIL feeding him random things. she appears to have no shame, and never asks us whether it's ok. We would write like to avoid him being given lots of sugary processed stuff, especially as he seems happy with vegetables and porridge.

We also seem to have hit a growth spurt - anyone else? He's been feeding every couple of hours or more for the past day and a half, including night time! I'm sure I was up 8 time with him last night. Thankfully he sleeps ok between feeds, but with teeth and eczema, it's been 2 months of sleepless nights.

felkov · 14/02/2015 14:14

Whynot hope you managed to get some sleep!

We've finally got into a more settled period of sleep, just the last couple if nights DD has only woken up 3 or 4 times whereas from early December until last week was waking anywhere from 6 to 10 times a night. was getting really exhausting!

Hopefully things improve for you too. I think it was related to developmental changes in DD as she now seems to be smilier and drops off to sleep more quickly. was taking me a couple of hours some nights to settle her, then waking every hour!!!

WhyNotSmile · 14/02/2015 17:51

DS is always easy enough to settle, thankfully - it's just keeping him asleep that's the issue! Last night was bad - by 3am I still hadn't slept - but thankfully DH was able to take him this morning so I got a lie in!

mrsmilkymoo · 14/02/2015 19:36

felkov dd is not a fan of banana either but seems to enjoy broccoli! Not what I would have expected but I guess I eat a fair bit of broccoli so maybe she's used to the taste in breast milk? (Does it even work like that?!)

Nazly · 14/02/2015 19:57

Yes mrs I have read it totally works that way.
Ds was not a fan of banana either but I kept offering it. He likes it as finger food now.

Nazly · 14/02/2015 19:58

Felkov so glad for you for better routines... what you are describing is exhausting... Well done you for surviving it well

felkov · 15/02/2015 16:23

Thanks Nazly although not sure i survived it very well. Lots Brew and Wine and cake in between! Most days the long daytime nap is in the buggy with me pushing so at least I'm walking for a couple of hrs to burn off the calories!

We're going away with some friends next weekend so goodness knows what that will do to the routine...

Nazly · 15/02/2015 20:14

Felkov my ds woke 5 times last night :(

felkov · 15/02/2015 20:35

Oh dear Nazly that's no fun. good luck for tonight.

we're battling a nasty cold here today so I'm preparing for some hallway pacing to get Dd settled. she is snoring and wheezing like an old man!

She was violently sick earlier as well, just after eating some red pepper. might steer clear of that for a while if that's the reaction it produces Shock porridge this morning was a success though

mrsmilkymoo · 15/02/2015 21:50

dd has a new trick today. Rolling over on to her tummy during a nappy or clothes change. I feel changes are becoming a wrestling match! Tried giving her a toy to hold to keep her on her back but she just wants to roll. Not sure why as she's been able to roll since before Christmas but had never done it during changes quite so much until today. Anyone got any tips? We use terry squares too so it takes a bit longer to put on a nappy anyway!

mrsmilkymoo · 15/02/2015 21:53

felkov when you make porridge do you use beast milk / formula or just regular milk? Going to try dd on porridge but not sure what to use to make hers.

felkov · 16/02/2015 08:25

Mrsmilk i just use water to cook the porridge (my DH is Scottish and wouldn't allow anything else) but then you can add a bit of expressed milk or formula at the end once its cooled down.

felkov · 16/02/2015 08:29

Sorry also meant to say that dd is rolling sideways during nappy changes too but if i give her a small toy to hold and also if i am at the end of the mat rather than the side she seems to stay put.

no more changing table here as I'm too worried she'll roll off it now. not looking forward to aching knees and back Sad

cookielove · 16/02/2015 11:21

My sister pins her lo who rolls Grin I would give the kid something to hold like the wipes or a shiney toy.

Ds took a whole pouch of pear this morning! Popping to the shops to buy some things to make some more homemade stuff I don't have enough of a selection for him!

mrsmilkymoo · 18/02/2015 09:56

Thanks felkov will give that a try for the porridge. I've been trying to distract dd with a new toy during changes but it doesn't work for long. She gets changed on the floor now too, it would be way too dangerous otherwise.

Gave her some salmon and broccoli pasta bake last night. She's had everything in it before with the the exception of the salmon. Not sure just how much she ate but she's already a lot better at picking the food up.

Nazly · 18/02/2015 13:31

Mrs. That sounds yummy; recipe please. Are you doing blw? Using any spoon at all?

mrsmilkymoo · 19/02/2015 08:59

Hi Nazly, we're mainly doing blw and DD ate the pasta with her fingers. But we've also given her some spoon fed purees too, just so that she can also get used to them so that if we're away and can't get her suitable food she will be ok.

The salmon and broccoli bake came from the BLW cookbook by Gill Rapley and Tracey Murkett. I love this book! (although....I tried DD on cheese and lentil wedges for lunch yesterday and she didn't really eat them but made SO much mess everywhere)

To make it, you cook 250g of pasta and 1 head of broccoli chopped into florets (cook for slightly less time than if you were serving these straight away).
While these are cooking make a white sauce from 25g butter, 25g flour and a pint of milk - I just used the microwave for this, think it took about 6 minutes.
Stir in parsley and/or dill into the sauce.
Arrange chunks of salmon fillet into a dish (we used two fillets for 2 adults and one baby, although the book says 3), then add pasta and broccoli.
Pour over sauce and sprinkle grated cheese on the top.
(the book also says you can mix breadcrumbs with the grated cheese but I didn't bother).
Bake at 180/gas mark 4 for 30 mins.

The book recommends serving with asparagus, baby carrots or green beans. DD didn't seem awfully keen on asparagus though.

Nazly · 19/02/2015 10:34

Oh that sounds really lovely. I will try it over the weekend. Our problem is we don't sit at table for dinner as his dad gets home late. I am using puree mainly but would love to give blw a go. Just not sure where to start...
I have been giving him finger food which he likes but makes an absolute mess so much so that I really think he could do with a bath straight away!!! In his eyes, hairs, eyebrows, ears, neck, feet, inside the sleeves and trousers... food is everywhere
Perhaps I should stick to blw just before bedtime bath....

felkov · 20/02/2015 12:08

That recipe sounds great! Nazly I do the blw type food in the evening so if its super messy DD can just go straight in the bath. I started with some florets of broccoli as they are easy to grip for little hands. As far as I know basically any softish fruit or veg whuch you can cut into a chip/wedge shape is good. e.g. carrots, green beans, melon, cucumber with no rind.

When they have developed a pincer grip then you can try things like blueberries and peas too Smile

mrsmilkymoo · 20/02/2015 17:26

Yes...I'm really not enjoying the mess of weaning. To be perfectly honest I prefer just getting out a boob. Ha, in the early days of breastfeeding I thought weaning would be great, more fool me.

Dd has a cold at the moment and her first runny nose, poor thing :-(

jessplussomeonenew · 21/02/2015 17:09

Nice to see some Aug 2014 mums on here, mind if I join in? DS turns 6 months tomorrow, has been mushing food around his highchair, body and the floor for a few days now, so far doesn't appear to have got anything into his stomach but is clearly having a lot of fun experimenting!

mrsmilkymoo · 21/02/2015 19:45

Hi jess nice to see you here, think I recognize your name from the infant feeding board Smile
