I've been told via Whatsapp by a MN'er this morning who used to be a member of the ante-natal group that there's a Facebook group, but that they won't accept anyone or her back Hmm (a bit weird if you ask me, but each to their own, and have really left a PND suffering mum feeling like shit, but I doubt they care in their "clique")

So are there any August Mums left on here willing to chat, without connecting to Faceache?

Oh, can I join in? DS was due 7th September, but arrived 8th August instead. Has been showing signs of teething since before Christmas, but no actual teeth yet! Currently not sleeping well at all, although getting better. I'm planning on starting blw when he turns 6 months, but not quite sure where to start with it... do I just give him some mashed potato or something and see what happens?!

Redtractorwontsleep · 26/01/2015 22:34

Hi! I've been looking for an august thread, I've got a DS born on the 20th,12 days late!!
Started weaning about 3weeks ago, managed for about 5days and then poor baby had a severe chest infection and his heart wasn't in it so I abandoned it until this week and he is 100% better, going well so far.
I'm going to look around a few nurseries this month, really dreading it, have got a while until I go back to work so it's not hitting home yet!
All my RL friends have got much older babies so it's nice to hear from others when we reach these milestones together!

GingerCuddleMonster · 27/01/2015 12:44

welcome all, just popping in quickly as on break in work, will catch up later Smile.

we seem to have lots of boys in august Shock.

Who has started weaning? What did you start with, how is it going?

Nazly · 27/01/2015 20:45

By the way, ds is a premie supposed to be born in August; I have searched to see if brain development has to do with due date or birth date; and all sources say due date. But Assume two babies have the same due date, one arrives two weeks early one two weeks late, aren't they going to be different with one month age gap??

I wonder what your august babies have recently learned, are doing now... My nct friends and my net friends almost all have September babies so can't compare

WhyNotSmile · 27/01/2015 21:13

Nazly, I've looked into this, and as far as I can tell, some things go by due date and some by arrival date. No one seems to be entirely clear which is which, though! My DS was 4 weeks and 2 days early, and had trouble with latching on and with digestive issues at first, but most other stuff seems to have been about average for his arrival date. He's certainly not 4 weeks behind developmentally.

felkov · 27/01/2015 21:42

Mine was 10 days late but everything I've read in reation to cognitive development goes by due date. I've found the Wonder Weeks really helpful. anyone else read that at all?

Physical milestones vary so much I have no idea what you're supppsed to go by for that! My DD seems to have pretty good fine motor skills (she hardly ever misses at picking up a small toy) but rubbish gross motor skills (has only ever rolled over half way once and showing no sign of rolling anytime soon!)

i haven't started weaning yet although the way DD stares at my breakfast I might have to give in soon and share my porridge Wink

felkov · 27/01/2015 21:45

Meant to ask, if you've started weaning what food did you start with and how did it go?

I'm hoping to try with more of the baby led style but not yet worked out how to avoid having bits of broccoli or pear all over the kitchen walls

mrsmilkymoo · 27/01/2015 21:53

We have just started weaning. Dd has had some broccoli and carrot. She's enjoyed playing with it and putting it in her mouth, but instead of swallowing it's mostly been spat out. She has found it great fun so far, although we're only on day two! We're just taking a relaxed approach to it right now and finding it very messy.

mrsmilkymoo · 27/01/2015 21:59

Also felkov sounds like our dds are very similar with regard to skills! Dd can roll but isn't that interested. She much prefers grabbing for things and nothing is safe from her little hands! I've got the wonder weeks app and find it pretty good. initially I thought she was out of sync with the leaps until I realised it went by due date as she was a week late.

MrsBrownsDD · 28/01/2015 08:16

We have the Wonder Weeks stuff too - have found it spookily accurate and try to avoid planning things around the stormy weeks. LO also not too bothered about rolling but loves sitting in her high chair and throwing stuff off the table and seems to be learning new tricks almost everyday. Sadly the trick I would most like to see still eludes her: that is nodding off peacefully at 7pm and not waking up until 7am!

Redtractorwontsleep · 28/01/2015 09:13

I've given DS banana, pear, potato, sweet potato, cauliflower and parsnip purées. Blending them less this week so he's getting used to different textures. He's constantly rolling over onto his tummy and for the first time yesterday he rolled back, so can't turn my back for a second!!
I'm going to look for a nursery next month, has anyone done this, any tips what to look for, what questions to ask etc?

GingerCuddleMonster · 28/01/2015 14:32

afternoon yummy mummies lol Grin sad...

we've started weaning this week too! he gets fed hipp organic jars (I'm really lazy) but then gets to play with part boiled vegetables like carrots or cucumber, pear apple whilst I eat my dinner. I make a point of sitting at the table to eat a meal with him, even though it's just lonely me I want him to learn dinner time we sit at table. it's also a very messy experience sharply followed by bed time bath and bed routine. I only feed him once a day at the moment.

with regards to moving about DS has been rolling for a while now and is now attempting to crawl but it looks more like he is swimming on land haha Grin all nappy changes are now done on the floor as he is exceptionally wiggly Angry I've also given up on sleep suits, he has pajamas as he wriggles away to much and I can't get the poppers done up Angry

red mine's in nursery twice a week full days, I looked for a nursery that was clean, organised, fairly new furniture and equipment in good order and colourful. They were my first visual has to be.

then on questions, I wanted them to be a healthy eating nursery, hours that suited my work pattern, I had to like the people (I can often take a instant dislike to people Blush , but it always ends up a good reason for this) I wanted a bilingual nursery too, as DS will be educated through the medium of Welsh the same as I was.

Hello thought I would pop on, although I am on the Sept thread to :)

Ds was due on the 23rd of Sept and made a suprise entrance to the world on the 13th of August ShockGrin

Redtractorwontsleep · 28/01/2015 17:13

Ginger I'm welsh as well so will be looking for a bilingual nursery! Thanks for the advice, I don't know where to start!

WhyNotSmile · 28/01/2015 17:18

Anyone had teeth through yet? DS has been drooling and in pain since before Christmas, and we can see the teeth in the gums, but nothing through yet! Hoping that once they start coming through he'll be a bit less fussy, eczema will clear up a bit, and he'll sleep better (longest sleep so far is 4 hours, and that was a one-off!).

GingerCuddleMonster · 28/01/2015 18:54

red it's daunting, but when you find "the one" it just feels right.

why no teeth yet, like you can see the in the gums but nothing making it's wy through yet. DS is just drooling all the time though that's about it for us Sad I know how you feel sleep wise DS wakes every 3hour for feeds at the moment

OP posts:
cookielove · 28/01/2015 19:17

Ds has been drooling since birth for a few months and we can see little white bits but no teeth as of yet!

He is like a tap :)

Nazly · 28/01/2015 20:43

Cookie I didn't realise our LOs are almost same age; 12th August here but should have been 5th Sept

Lots of drooling no tooth here too

We started weaning last week but ds has reflux which makes weaning difficult. He just played around with food every two or three days... Yesterday he has a portion which you could call a meal... Like 10 tiny spoon of veggies followed by 5-6 tiny spoon of pears as desert. He slept better last night, not sure if it has to do with that. Today he had slightly more...

I am starting a food diary to see what works and what does not.
Bought a few freezer pot today to freeze; didn't want to but didn't notice making tiny amount of puree is impossible!

felkov · 28/01/2015 21:03

No teeth here yet and i hope not for a while as the thought of bfing and getting a wee bite is not fun! massive amounts of drool though. it gets slightly embarrassing how much dd slimes everything Blush

GingerCuddleMonster · 28/01/2015 21:12

DS needs to be changed about 4 times a dy he drools so much, vest and all Shock.

I went to work one day and noticed I had drool in my hair in the lift! I went straight to the toilets to sort it out haha Grin.

cookielove · 29/01/2015 01:50

nazly I knew they were close in age didn't realise it was only a day difference :)

I have been making purees the mast couple of weeks, freezing them then popping into bags. I just get an ice-cube out when I need it now. So much easier. Although ds is still in the taste and see phase instead of swallow lots and want more Hmm

Bless him he is not well all snotty again. Looking forward to better weather in the hopes he may go a week without becoming ill.

mrsmilkymoo · 29/01/2015 08:13

We have a tooth coming through and I too am scared of being bitten during a feed! She's already been using me as a bit of a teething ring which isn't too nice, haha! And oh yes, huge amounts of drool. Everything gets soaked through. Although since we've started on the blw we're getting plenty of mess anyway and needing to change clothes more frequently too.

I don't think she's actually eaten much - well, I saw some 'evidence' that things had been swallowed - but she's having fun with the different foods which I guess is the main thing to start with. She didn't seem to like the taste of banana but everything else has been a big hit.
