We don't have a government in this country any more.

We have a dictatorship.

I do think striking around Christmas is just mean though!

1000yellowdaisies · 08/12/2022 12:23

Very, very worrying. They know there will be future strikes.
The ability for enployee to withhold their labour to affect change is one of our most fundamental rights this is so worrying

The strike has to affect people though. Other times of the year it might not be so impactful.

Soothsayer1 · 08/12/2022 12:25

Rishi👑 richer than the king demands that the peasants obey him

midgetastic · 08/12/2022 12:26

Forced labour ?

Leemoe · 08/12/2022 12:26

The writing has been on the wall for quite some time I'm afraid.

'Just stop oil' for example are funded by a baroness with shares in the oil companies. They are basically a psy op in order to usher through non protest bills.

The strikes are being utilised for the very same purpose.

I expect there to be some awful calamities during the nurses and paramedics strikes and an ensuing media field day with public outrage.

That will be the next trajectory in this handcart to hell we appear to be strapped in to.

Yeah, it's so mean for people to stand up for their right to fair pay and conditions and to try to protect the vital services this country depends on. They should just have a mulled wine and let they country fall to pieces around them.

FYI - it's because striking at Christmas is so visible and annoying that it's effective.

Very, very worrying - I knew Sunak was trouble.

massivecringe · 08/12/2022 12:28

The strikes are to make change, it's going to impact at Christmas, isn't that the point ? I saw in the news the pm was 'going to take action if unions continue to be unreasonable'

Absolute joke, they expect everyone to carry on with their usual wage when the cost of living is constantly going up? People are struggling ! I'm sat with my newborn baby absolutely freezing, wrapped up with hot water bottles in our home because I'm too scared to put the heating on!! It's 2022 ffs!

Soothsayer1 · 08/12/2022 12:30

I don't think he has as much as leverage as he thinks he does, the public are more in favour of strikes than the government realise plus we do not have a shortage of jobs people in the public sector could just leave and get work elsewhere

LaurieFairyCake · 08/12/2022 12:34

Of course the public are in favour of strikes now they know nurses and people working with the most vulnerable are actually visiting FOOD BANKS after working a full time job!

louisana1102 · 08/12/2022 12:36

Is Royal Mail in strike today?

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 08/12/2022 12:36

'Merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher'

Grimchmas · 08/12/2022 12:37

This should come as a surprise to nobody.

They've already stripped rights to protest.

It's terrifying. And we're all just sat here like tutting chickens.

I think hard working employees having their rights taken away and struggling to feed their families and heat their homes is mean. I don't give a shit if it means your Xmas pressies are a bit late.

Is Royal Mail in strike today?

No it's Friday and Sunday.

igivein · 08/12/2022 12:46

It’s a shame he can’t devote his time to coming up with plans to sort the country out so people didn’t feel the need to strike.

Horsesandzebras · 08/12/2022 12:47

We're stuck in the UK (unless you are wealthy enough to get your visa out of here)
We're having our right to protest removed
We're having our right to strike removed
We're denying refugees safe routes
We're struggling to get the basic needs of the population met
Human rights are being torn up

This is all Political choice.

AddieLoggins2 · 08/12/2022 12:47

Then they came for the trade unionists...

Tonysopranosghost · 08/12/2022 12:48

Get ta fuck Rishi.

KnittedCardi · 08/12/2022 12:51

I think there needs to some measures in place to stop the wholesale holding of the country to ransom. You talk about democracy.

Only 25% of workers belong to a union, and maybe only 50%, let's be generous, 60% of those voted to strike. So say a generous 15% of workers are holding the majority 85% to ransom, and that's only workers, not to mention everyone else in the country, children, teens, the elderly, those that are not working due to illness or disability. Less way less than 15% of the population, 5% (?) making everyone else lives a misery. Very democratic.

And nobody voted for Rishi Sunak... or these policies. Call an election on the policies and see what the public think!

This. I fully support those workers who are striking.

Soothsayer1 · 08/12/2022 13:06

Emperor Rishie👑 up there in his ivory tower looking down at all us ants has no idea that he's completely naked
people do not bow and scrape to him as he imagines they will, we will not doff our caps to these ridiculous relics of feudalism

DuchessDandelion · 08/12/2022 13:15

I hate to bring Brexit into it but this was one of the political motivations.

Chippy1234 · 08/12/2022 13:17

Labour are in the pockets of the unions. What will they do?
