Breast milk jewellery- cute or wierd?!

Okay.... so I can't decide if this is cute or WIERD.

But..... I am currently bf and drawing to the end of the journey- maybe another month or 2. I feel really sad about giving up but I know it's time.

I saw some breast milk jewellery where they use resin to make a pearl looking stone out of breast milk.

I thought maybe this would be a cute keepsake... if not to wear then maybe just a little heart shaped one to keep in a special box.

Thoughts on this? Cute? wierd?

Also- do you know of any other ideas for breastfeeding keepsakes/ souvenirs?

Absolutely revolting.

As for 'breastfeeding souvenirs', surely a well nourished infant is sufficient?

Hahaha. I appreciate the honestly. I guess you're right - little one is thriving, maybe that should be enough x

I know someone who still had some in the freezer 20 years later

why not just take lots of photos or video of you feeding.

the jewellery sounds weird

Why don't you just get a nice piece of real pearl jewellery? Does the job, but without the weirdness.

Cuppasoupmonster · 10/01/2023 05:48

Weird, sorry. What next, placenta earrings?

JadeTC · 10/01/2023 05:48

I've seen some necklaces that look really pretty. You could always freeze a little bit so you can decide later on whether you want to go for it with the jewellery?

I like this idea

Don’t even joke about it 🤣. I just googled and one site doing jewellery like that mentioned by the OP had umbilical cord in the list of items that could be encapsulated (other stuff too, hair, ashes etc)

Yes this is a good plan

Sometimes I wonder if they’re actually using the breastmilk or just saying they are and using cows milk or white plastic because let’s face it who would know!

BoganKiwi · 10/01/2023 06:16

Ugh. Smug and narcissistic.

victoriay2k · 10/01/2023 06:17

I think it's nice!

Might be a little unheard of but no weirder than other things you can have jewellery made out of...

Go for it if you're keen x

YukoandHiro · 10/01/2023 06:29

I personally also think it's a bit ewww (and I extended bf both my children) but how is it "narcissistic"?
That word gets thrown around too easily on here, it's losing meaning now.

Wtf? Why? 😂

I have a necklace pendant, it doesn't look like BM. In all honesty, it's wasn't really my thing, but my sister got me a voucher. I absolutely loved feeding, and I look at it with fondness. I don't wear it very much as I don't wear much jewellery. My DS is very proud when I do have it on and tells everyone - they are a little grossed out to be fair 🤣 he was fed until he was 16 months and he saw his sister being fed so I'm hoping he's a huge advocate for it in later life.

I quite fancy a ring tbh! They look like little Pandora rings.

I got mine from Milk Diamonds.

Says the person who clearly knows little about narcissism.

They look pretty and it's up to you what you wear on your body.
It's no weirder than other things people keep like baby teeth.

RampantIvy · 10/01/2023 06:55

I don't understand the fetishisation of something so natural. Breastfeeding can be hard (it was very hard for me at the beginning and I nearly gave up), but it is a perfectly natural thing to do. Once I had got over the initial hurdles I just got on with it. It wasn't a "journey", it was just an easy and natural way to feed my baby.

Not was it "enjoyable" (not unenjoyable) or "bonding". I just got on with it.

I think making jewellery out of breast milk or other body parts is odd and a bit "worship the breast", and it isn't for me. It won't be an heirloom that your children will want, unlike real jewellery.

ToddleToddleToddle · 10/01/2023 07:19

WEIRD!!

HowCanIPayItForward · 10/01/2023 07:23

Going against the grain here, I've got one and I love it. It's pretty and a keepsake from a really special time.

Mmmmpavlova · 10/01/2023 07:26

I'll admit, before I had babies myself a friend of mine once showed our group the BM jewellery she'd had made. We all made polite faces but I definitely felt quietly weirded out by it.

Now I'm nearly 2 years into breastfeeding my first and its been a super emotional bonding experience and I do 'get it'. I think maybe it's still not for me, but I do get it.

You could get a keepsake made for yourself OP, but maybe without explaining to other people what it's made from!

PortiasBiscuit · 10/01/2023 07:29

Does anyone want to invest in my start-up company making saliva jewellery to commemorate couples’ first kiss?

Also working on something around losing your virginity…

PortiasBiscuit · 10/01/2023 07:31

Seriously, take a video. You can use just the threat of it it to freak your child out for years.. pure gold!

Lcb123 · 10/01/2023 07:34

I personally think it’s weird and smug. But if you like it then go ahead.

I agree to some extent, but I definitely found it bonding. My boobs would tingle crazily when my babies cried out of hunger.

LunaMay · 10/01/2023 07:42

I think they're weird but I've also seen some quite pretty ones. Whatever floats your boat I say!
