5 reasons I hate Babywearing

  1. As it is so easy to feed on the move I can't make DH go to the supermarket during busy times just because she is due a feed.
  1. As it keeps them so lovely and warm I have not used any of the lovely snowsuits or jackets I bought and was given and they just sit sadly in my hallway gathering dust.
  1. It takes hours to get anything done as you are stopped all the way round the supermarket by cooing grannies telling you how wonderful and comfy it looks and how sweet and cosy your DC looks.
  1. I always need a pound coin as I only need a shallow trolley for the shopping when I only have DD2 and I never have one on me.

and the fifth and final reason I hate babywearing is

  1. It always puts them to sleep, even when you want them to stay awake to try and stagger nap and feed times!

bump..instructions please, anyone?!!

cherryredretrochick · 19/12/2007 13:29

twinkly, I can't be bothered to read the whiole thread, what sort of sling is it?

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 19/12/2007 13:43

Thanks Cherry - it's a Loveseat - like a MeiTai with buckles. Cross between MT and Ergo I think?

I have been watching MT and Ergo vids on Youtube and I think the straps do go over their 'own' arms, not crossed at the back, but there isn't a little link to keep them together at the back so they keep sliding off my shoulders...I am not sure I'm doing it right!

Are you trying to carry front or back? if back the straps probably cross over your chest. not 100% sure though. If front they prob have to cross over the back. To back carry with an ergo I never use the clippy thing at the front (can't do it up over my boobs) what feels a bit loose to start with feels quite secure once their weight5 has settled into the bottom of the sling iyswim.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 19/12/2007 13:56

Oh, ah that helps a bit...front carry, see my profile, have uploaded some pics.

Maybe I should be doing back carry with this one?
There's no way I can cross the straps over at the back, the shoulder section isn't very long so you can't grab it from under the arm iyswim.

Chirpy will know, thankyou for trying!

cherryredretrochick · 19/12/2007 14:01

Looked at pics, fab sling. And your tree looks very twinkly

ChirpyGrinch · 19/12/2007 14:22

Sorry! was out at toddler group christmas party!

Firstly, is ocomeALLYebabies bealcain? I hate namechanging, it doesn't half confuse me!

Secondly, he looks very comfy in that! It should cross across your back when you wear him on the front, if you do one clip up and put the strap over your head it should be a bit easier, then you can tuck the other strap under teh first one and sliiiide it along (IYSWIM) if you can't reach.
Otherwise do both clips up on loosest setting and put them over your head, if you can.

If you put him on your back then just put the straps on like a rucksack, if you cross them then your boobs look ridiculous! It will stay on as your shoulders curve the right way..., whereas if you don't cross it doesn't feel as safe.
The woman I got it from said you don't need to cross it if you wear it on your front but I didn't feel safe in it. However, I never wore it with DD1 and DD2 is only lickle so it may feel different with weight!

shall have a look and see if I can find pics...

Can't find any pics except on babywearer forums, which you have to regsiter to see, but here is a link to a Yamo carrier which is the closest I can find. Some of them do wear them without crossing the backs but like I said, I never found that comfy enough. Cos of my huge nork issue i preferred back wearing as otherwise DD got squigded!
The loveseats were custom made by a WAHM so there aren't really pics or links for thme, they are all one of a kind!

More threads on babywearer about Loveseats and the woman who makes them, might help a bit as there are some pics!

Everyone has buggered off now I am back!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 19/12/2007 15:08

Thanks!!! Am searching that site for things about the Loveseat, meanwhile about to try the crossover thing, it is a relief, I thought I was doing it all wrong!

Back in a bit...wish me luck!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 19/12/2007 15:16

...I have tried it without baby as he is asleep now...it seems Ok, I think it will be alright getting the straps over my head.

Had a lot of curious/admiring glances while we were waiting for Ds1 to emerge from school. Despite my hitching it up onto my shoulders a lot and muttering about how I was sure there must be something I wasn't doing right!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 19/12/2007 15:17

By the way, how was the party? Did you enjoy?

am slightly at norkage being an issue. Mine are non issue worthy whatsoever.

ChirpyGrinch · 19/12/2007 15:32

Re: glances...Just you wait (see no. 3 in OP)

Hope it is working okay, I am shattered and should be tidying kitchen but can't move due to spending all day yesterday cooking for the party, but it was well worth it, great success,!
We made decorations (covered community centre in glitter, and I am sure DD2 ingested some, but hey ho) lots of food eaten and drinks drunk (only Schloer, but still yummy) and everyone got a present at the end as I remembered to buy extra for those that would forget, My DD2 (11 weeks) and my friends DS2 (6 months) missed out on gifts, I don't think they'll mind, lots of singing and dancing and everyone happy, success all round I think!

I need to go now as DD's are sleeping, but I can't be bothered!

twinkly - glad you're sling arrived. that pic is so darn cute!

chirpy - i am indeed bealcain.....my name's ally, so Ally McBeal is who i be named after!!!

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 20/12/2007 14:04

Lovely photos, FA

ChirpyGrinch · 20/12/2007 19:12

Well you should make it clearer! Some of us are not that bright you know!

FA, hows it going with the sling?

OP posts:
JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 20/12/2007 19:17

Yes I was also trying to work out the connections between bealcain and ohcomeALLYyebabies, it wans't obvious, I would never have guessed Ally McBeal, even though I was an Ally McBeal addict for years

ChirpyGrinch · 20/12/2007 19:57

Oh thank god, I thought I was being really thick!
Cryptic just doesn't work on parents of young children!

OP posts:
ocomeALLYebabies · 21/12/2007 07:23

ok [ Ally skulks away at her rubbish name, and endeavours to do better next year)

Twinkly - i'm guessing you're not ignoring us, purely enjoying every minute of your sling and so you're out and about here, there and everywhere!

ocomeALLYebabies · 21/12/2007 08:45

i'm bored

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 21/12/2007 08:52

Oh golly, no not ignoring, just a dufus with the old' threads I'm on' page, I wish it would update and move threads to the top when someone posts!!!

Well thankyou for the comments about the pictures. He is my little delight

I am having a bit of trouble with the sling! I keep wondering if I could extend the strappage somehow. It is quite hard to get it on and off I am finding. He has such a big head and gettting the straps over mine and his, is a bit tricky iyswim. But I love the way it looks so am very reluctant to let it go!
there must be a way.

Also I'm finding it leaves a mark on his little thighs as it is quite wide and his legs are stuck between my sides and the edges. Maybe I need to carry him differently?

I tried him forward facing and tucked his legs up into it kangaroo style, that was so funny!

~How are you, Be?

ChirpyGrinch · 21/12/2007 08:53

Well I am waiting for DH to get back with the car so I can go and buy nappies, so I wish I was bored! It's going to be anightmare, but as DH has today off I need to decide which carrier to take DD2 in as I can leave DD1 with him.
So will it be a stretch wrap, a mei tai, a pouch or a ringsling.....!?

OP posts:
ocomeALLYebabies · 21/12/2007 08:55

ring sling chirpy if you're going in and out of plaes. my DF not off till sunday! we're doing our food shopping on monday, are we mad??

twinkly do you want to meet up and i'll try and help?

ChirpyGrinch · 21/12/2007 08:55

Hmm..not sure what to suggest about straps I'm afraid. Sorry!
Do his trousers sit between his legs and the carrier? DD1 always used to have pressure marks but if I made sure her trews were pulled down then they didn't seem to bother her.

OP posts:
ocomeALLYebabies · 21/12/2007 08:57

chirpy do you use babylegs? i made some but think they're shite! tried some 'real' ones and they were to
