5 reasons I hate Babywearing

  1. As it is so easy to feed on the move I can't make DH go to the supermarket during busy times just because she is due a feed.
  1. As it keeps them so lovely and warm I have not used any of the lovely snowsuits or jackets I bought and was given and they just sit sadly in my hallway gathering dust.
  1. It takes hours to get anything done as you are stopped all the way round the supermarket by cooing grannies telling you how wonderful and comfy it looks and how sweet and cosy your DC looks.
  1. I always need a pound coin as I only need a shallow trolley for the shopping when I only have DD2 and I never have one on me.

and the fifth and final reason I hate babywearing is

  1. It always puts them to sleep, even when you want them to stay awake to try and stagger nap and feed times!

My children's barbies can bf, unlike the playmobil I also made a ring sling for the barbie doll to carry her baby, so our barbies are certainly into AP

ocomeALLYebabies · 18/12/2007 09:01

thats so cool belgo you are one creative mama

ChirpyGrinch · 18/12/2007 09:40

fa, is it not thee yet? royal mail is so crap this time of year!

Ally, what do you have? DH is on the phone now to get his bike back before Christmas! I think we need a babywearing bikers thread

yes I also made dd1 a ring sling, but she prefers her dolly's pram! Never mind

RGPargy · 18/12/2007 09:44

oooo this thread has made me want to wear my baby to Homebase this afternoon!

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 18/12/2007 09:49

RGPargy, are you better now?

RGPargy · 18/12/2007 09:52

Yes thanx Belgo! Still had a groggy headache the next day but i feel right as rain now (i was given the gift of sleep last night too).

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 18/12/2007 09:52

that's good

cherryredretrochick · 18/12/2007 18:08

Ok, completly unrelated to OP but you lot have made me feel all emotional, I love babywearing, my dd2 is 21mths and currently use ergo. I was reading this and decided that for xmas we could have a nice mei tai between us. Then when i thought about it I can't, I am having a breast reduction on xmas eve and suddenly got really sad that I may not be able to wear my baby again .

havalina · 18/12/2007 20:29

Sorry to intrude but do you think it would be worth babywearing at 14 months of age? He is about 23lb but would make my life easier, haven't tried it before as it all seems too complicated and expensive (the different types etc) sorry.

cherryredretrochick · 18/12/2007 20:32

definatley, on hols this year we still carried my 4yo dd1 as well as 18mth old dd2. would try a back carrier, ergo, mei tei that sort of thing. If you google sling you will get lots of links.

ocomeALLYebabies · 18/12/2007 20:38

definately havalina my 2yo just started about 6months ago and loves it, alothugh he's now close to 35lbs....ouch!

chirpy - what what do i have??? pg brain kicking in sory!

ChirpyGrinch · 18/12/2007 22:13

'thinking of taking the ol' girl out for a run this evening, not sure though, it;s been really icy last few nights hmm i feel the need for speed!'

I was asking if you have a bike?!

Def not too late to get a sling, a mei tai or ergo is probably your best bet. And don't forget they have excellent resale value so even if you only use it for 6 months you'll get most of your money back if you sell it on!

ocomeALLYebabies · 19/12/2007 07:28

sorry chirpy i thought we'd already had thins conversation. it's a suzuki gsxr in pink! it's beautiful!

havalina - definately second the sell on price is about 80-90% of what you would originally pay.

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 19/12/2007 07:30

cherryredretrochick - what a horrible time to have an operation - and I hope it goes well for you. Maybe, once you are fully recovered, you can babywear again?

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 19/12/2007 07:32

havalina - I would certainly recommend carrying your baby on your back - it will take some practise - I wonder, can you borrow a sling? Like cherry red says, an ergo or a mei tai?

ocomeALLYebabies · 19/12/2007 07:42

cherry - let me know how it goes as am planning one myself!!!

twinkle did your beautiful sling come yesterday???

belgo good morning, how you doing?

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 19/12/2007 08:27

fine thanks I'm quite busy the next few days

ocomeALLYebabies · 19/12/2007 08:33

me to unfortunately. still haven't finished my christmas shopping either. thinking perhaps i should!

Maveta · 19/12/2007 09:01

Well I was going to start a thread asking this but seeing as there's so many babywearers congregated in one place here:

I've only had a wrap sling since ds (8mo) was born and it is fab but a bit of a faff for short journeys with all the fabric to wrap around etc etc. Would a ring sling be good now he's a bit bigger?

kiskidee · 19/12/2007 09:17

go for a mei tai, havalina. do you speak spanish, by any chance?

ocomeALLYebabies · 19/12/2007 09:57

Maveta - definately a ring sling. its so quick and easy to put on and take off and get LO in. howevr like the wrap it takes a few tikes to gt it right but it really is easy once you do.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 19/12/2007 11:37

Chirpy are you around? Got it just this minute, it's beautiful, thankyou...how do you wear it please???!!!!

(I have done up the waist bit, then turned it so the clip is at the back, have also found two straps at the sides and two shoulder pad straps, now do I put these in an X shape at the back (an't do them up myself if so) or do they just slip over your shoulders, and if this is right, do they stay on Ok like that?

Thanks as you can tell I am a bit new to this!
