5 reasons I hate Babywearing

ChirpyGrinch · 12/12/2007 19:24

  1. As it is so easy to feed on the move I can't make DH go to the supermarket during busy times just because she is due a feed.
  1. As it keeps them so lovely and warm I have not used any of the lovely snowsuits or jackets I bought and was given and they just sit sadly in my hallway gathering dust.
  1. It takes hours to get anything done as you are stopped all the way round the supermarket by cooing grannies telling you how wonderful and comfy it looks and how sweet and cosy your DC looks.
  1. I always need a pound coin as I only need a shallow trolley for the shopping when I only have DD2 and I never have one on me.

and the fifth and final reason I hate babywearing is

  1. It always puts them to sleep, even when you want them to stay awake to try and stagger nap and feed times!

FA???

aaahhhhh ok, i remember someone had a problem with a suziki?

ChirpyGrinch · 13/12/2007 15:43

A mei tai might be an idea if you can't get on with a ring sling, but you might just not be using it properly.
The huggababy is not the best ring sling as it doesn't adjust as well as others, with the one in Flames pic it looks like you can adjust the top and bottom seperately (?) by pulling on different bits of material, which you can't with a huggababy. This means you can tighten it around their shoudlers and back while they sit up on your hip and it makes it a lot more secure.
Have a look on youtube for babywearing videos, especially ringslings or mei tais and see what you think.
This is quite a good example of how to use a ringsling for a hipcarry, and once you have the knack it takes seconds to get them in and out!

I am selling a plain black ringsling as well but it is a bit more expensive and not as pretty as Flames!

Oooh Chirpy, those are all beautiful! What are the bright coloured ones? I love them

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:50

Oh it is the same one...is that a MeiTai? How would you use it, is it a front only carrier? Would it be Ok with a 6 monther?

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:52

thanks for the link btw

ChirpyGrinch · 13/12/2007 18:17

Heehee

ChirpyGrinch · 13/12/2007 18:31

DH has been reading this over my shoudler and wants to know who has a pink gxsr, he says that is sacrilege and what size is it so he can really hate you? (He has a hornet6 and a ducatti 600ss)

just wanted to know what everyone on here thinks of the hugabub wrap carrier? i ordered one to carry my 6 week old in, still waiting for it to arrive, are they any good?

ChirpyGrinch · 13/12/2007 18:40

That's a stretchy wrap isn't it? I love them! very comfy and easy to use in lots of different ways, but I am too cheap to shell out for a 'proper' brand one so am very !
Have you been onto sites to see how to use it? This one is good with very clear photos...

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 18:40

Ooh I don't know Dalrymps, I think the others might!

Chirpy, it was Bealcain with the pink bike. She will explain if you ask her! Mine was a dull grey/silver, my heart breaks to recall its flaky finish...
I am very upset that your husband has a Ducati, because I want one. NOW!

...Now babywearing on a bike, hmm...I knew there was a good reason not to sell it!

ChirpyGrinch · 13/12/2007 18:46

and it is a shiny red one!
He has actually sold it but its still in our garage to be admired!
unfortunately he has a deauville at the mo as his hornet is in the shop, he is not happy as its huge ( and ugly)
right gotta go bath the horrors....

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 18:48

Yes agree Deauville is yuk but great courier bike, at least it has little downtime so that's less of a worry.
Thanks for the wrap and advice, lookng forward to it!

Dalrymps · 13/12/2007 18:49

yeah a stretchy one, i'm quite new to all this so don't know much about them, can't really afford it either but just ordered it anyway , sure i'll get my money's worth out of it, thanks for the link

bealcain · 14/12/2007 07:17

chirpy - it's a gsxr1000 K5....tis my baby, not able to ride it all that much anymore due to children......would a side car be really unfashionable lol!!!

sorry hijacking lots......maybe start a different thread....

Dalrymps - i love my wraps. was a helping a friend with an ellaroo last night and a five week old....it really was soooo cute!

PortAndLemonaid · 14/12/2007 08:10

The hug-a-bub is fantastically comfortable but a bit of a faff to take on and off.

ChirpyGrinch · 14/12/2007 09:02

It is a faff to take on and off, but I cheat with my stretchy wrap and leave it on all the time, then just lift DD in and out as needed. very hadny for going to the park where I can tie it in the warm and clean floor of my house, and then not trail the ends in teh puddles and mud in the park!
You can only do that with a stretchy wrap though!

Anyway, we have about 15 now and I am offline for the weekend, so I expect it to get to 20 before I get back!

OP posts:
Dalrymps · 14/12/2007 12:11

oh looking forward to it arriving now! can't wait to use it. Unfortunately it's delayed in the post, was supposed to arrive wed , hope it comes soon!

bealcain · 14/12/2007 12:32

i've found that telling new mums to not wear a top and just their wrap around the house, really good as it really helps to establish milk supply and promote breatfeeding, totally skin on skin it's fab!
