5 reasons I hate Babywearing

  1. As it is so easy to feed on the move I can't make DH go to the supermarket during busy times just because she is due a feed.
  1. As it keeps them so lovely and warm I have not used any of the lovely snowsuits or jackets I bought and was given and they just sit sadly in my hallway gathering dust.
  1. It takes hours to get anything done as you are stopped all the way round the supermarket by cooing grannies telling you how wonderful and comfy it looks and how sweet and cosy your DC looks.
  1. I always need a pound coin as I only need a shallow trolley for the shopping when I only have DD2 and I never have one on me.

and the fifth and final reason I hate babywearing is

  1. It always puts them to sleep, even when you want them to stay awake to try and stagger nap and feed times!

  1. Sling nirvana only lasts so long.

There is always going to be another sling sitting there, to chase, at the end of the rainbow.

oddometer · 13/12/2007 12:43

lol

i was this way with pushchairs for a bit too - cant get my head round that now at all,but there you go.

Are we on about 15. now?

15 (ish?) When my husband use to sling my son, he got shedloads of female attention and people rushed to assist him in shops and generally treated him like a King.

Hmmm, now is that good or bad?

bealcain · 13/12/2007 15:00

sorry about 13, got a pg brain and 2 LOs so i think i can be excused totally agre about the man thing! DF always says he'll be fine if i die as the children will get him some attention!! charming!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:05

Oh pleeeeease tell me where to start, I am so reading this thread!!! On second child, about a million pushchairs and I really don't understand how to start wearing him, all the slings I've tried are useless, help me please!

He is 6 months btw, is it too late? I have always carried him a great deal.

bealcain · 13/12/2007 15:06

twinkly - of course its not too late. i started wearing ds2 at 3months and now ds1 (2) wans to be carried everywhere!!!

where to start! what do you wan tto use it for?

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:06

(Have only tried the usual - wilkinet, Mothercare 3 way, huggababy. All required lots of hands to stop baby being ucomfy/falling out/ you know what I mean. I need hands free.

bealcain · 13/12/2007 15:07

other tgan holding a baby of course!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:08

Oh thanks! ok. I would like to carry him round the house when doing work, ie washing etc.
I would like to use it for trips out of the car - shops and picking up Ds from school.

I would love to feed in it but can you really? How does that work?

Supermarket would be brill too.

How did I come to this so late!

bealcain · 13/12/2007 15:10

do you want to carry him on your back, front or hip? and is it gonig to be for long periods of time or short stretches?

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:11

Oh I'm not sure - usually he is sort of on my hip. Ideally for short periods would be the most useful thing, for a longer distance I'd use a buggy.
Round the house would be a godsend!
Prefer not on my back though.

bealcain · 13/12/2007 15:14

a ring sling then. go to bigmamaslings.co.uk or naturalmothering.co.uk they're fab, i van still use it with said 2 year old easily and have jsut been using round the supermarket this morning

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:18

Ooh brill, thanks so much Bealcain. I will look out for you as I think we are nearby! x

bealcain · 13/12/2007 15:21

oooo really? i never see any BW mums aroud here!

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 13/12/2007 15:26

I'm sellin a ring sling for £14

I was all today - woman with a teeny one in a wrap sling... didn't realise how much I missed it. I did wear DS on my front for the school run the other day but my back killed me afterwards - I didn't have the right coat on to put him on my back (tis awkward there anyway - he likes to try to peer round to kiss my mouth, or covers my eyes with his hands )

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:26

No, haven't seen any either but will keep an eye out!

bealcain · 13/12/2007 15:28

where are you twinkly?

flames what sort?

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:28

Ooh Flame...sounds really good, but I have just looked at the ring slings and are they not like the Huggababy? I am really struggling with that one. I think I might be doing it wrong, I put him in, he leans sideways, I end up using both hands to aupport him.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:28

Canterbury, Be

bealcain · 13/12/2007 15:29

twinkly if you want some help in person i'd be more than happy.....

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:30

Oh thanks!!! We should meet up.

I want to see your pink gsxr as well!

What am I doing wrong with the hugga, anyone got any ideas? Or is a proper ringsling better anyway?

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 13/12/2007 15:31

Is huggababy a padded ring one?

I'll find a link for mine, hang on

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 13/12/2007 15:32

here

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 13/12/2007 15:32

Yes, tis. It's green. It was second hand, a couple of quid, but I just can't get the hang of it. I've even watched the video but still he just leans out of it all the time!
