5 reasons I hate Babywearing

  1. As it is so easy to feed on the move I can't make DH go to the supermarket during busy times just because she is due a feed.
  1. As it keeps them so lovely and warm I have not used any of the lovely snowsuits or jackets I bought and was given and they just sit sadly in my hallway gathering dust.
  1. It takes hours to get anything done as you are stopped all the way round the supermarket by cooing grannies telling you how wonderful and comfy it looks and how sweet and cosy your DC looks.
  1. I always need a pound coin as I only need a shallow trolley for the shopping when I only have DD2 and I never have one on me.

and the fifth and final reason I hate babywearing is

  1. It always puts them to sleep, even when you want them to stay awake to try and stagger nap and feed times!

  1. you can be topless and noone need know about it!

  2. slings and the different ways of tying/holding my baby is all i dream about at night

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 16/12/2007 06:40

a friend of mine has asked to borrow my sling for her baby that is due soon - she wants to carry her baby to help establish bfing - I'm really pleased she's asked me without me suggesting anything to her!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 16/12/2007 06:55

That's wonderful Belgo

Bealcain, please stop it, I have enough trouble suppressing fantasies about my dhl delivery man as it is, without the 'topless under my sling' element to contend with!!!!

'i've found that telling new mums to not wear a top and just their wrap around the house, really good as it really helps to establish milk supply and promote breatfeeding, totally skin on skin it's fab!'

maybe I'll tell her that .

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 16/12/2007 07:04
  1. I didn't realise bfing in a sling was even possible until after I'd stopped using a front sling! I now carry dd2 on my back, and have done for the past 18 months.
bealcain · 16/12/2007 07:07

twinkly - LMAO...thanks for making me laugh so early! maybe we've giot the same DHL man!

Belgo - it really helps, as does letting he baby 'crawl' to the breast itself afterbirth. there's a video on youtube (again) i'll see if i can find it for you, it's amazing

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 16/12/2007 07:10

Here

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 16/12/2007 07:11

That's the Unicef Breastcrawl one I think.

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 16/12/2007 07:13

thank you

I remember after dd2 was born, I was too weak to hold her for about an hour. My midwife told my dh to strip off and put dd2 onto his bare chest with a towel over her. She was searching on his chest]

When I was finally ready to hold her, she bf straight away.

bealcain · 16/12/2007 07:18

thanks twinkly, i may be the sling queen but am shite at links!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 16/12/2007 07:19

Wow, great midwife Belgo! I am so impressed. That is just lovely.
I was too weak as well, but they put him next to me and we just lay there till he started rootling around.
I love the way they know what to do.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 16/12/2007 07:20

Aw just call me Linkly

Might need your help when my Meitai/Loveseat arrives, Be - I'll ask you if I get into problems, if that's Ok?

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 16/12/2007 07:21

..or LinklyTwight, even!

sorry I have had chocolate for breakfast. Will shut up now...

bealcain · 16/12/2007 07:24

linkly - of course you can, i look forward to it. i#m going to let this one do the crawl thing, i think it's great and definately instills in mind that it's got to be what you do itherwise how would they all know what to do?!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 16/12/2007 07:26

Oh, how far along are you Be? I didn't realise you were pg! Congratulations!

bealcain · 16/12/2007 07:30

thanks, not sure yet, i have a shite MW who wont let me have a scan as apparently i'm too far gone for it to be accurate so she's basing it on my last period which was my first since DS" born, so not reliable in the slightest, having to pay for a private one. there's a distinct possibility it;s twins aswell so we've def got to pay for one.bit annoyed really! but about 14weeks or 10with twins

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 16/12/2007 07:35

that's very bad, that you aren't allowed a dating scan, or a scan to confirm how many babies there are.

I'm glad you can get a private scan, but you really shouldn't have to pay for it.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 16/12/2007 07:39

Oh my, what a confusing place to be. I'm sorry you're having trouble with your HCP's.

But wow, twins?! Is there a suitable sling, I wonder...

bealcain · 16/12/2007 07:39

my mw is a complete idiot, she was with ds2 aswel. thank god for my friends who are mws and can tell me my options without bias! thinking maybe should start a chat thread to stop hijacking this one!

bealcain · 16/12/2007 07:40

a wrap for when newborn, and then when older one on front one on back ,but god knows what i'll do with ds2, as he'll still want wearing! on my head?

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 16/12/2007 07:41

I have a friend who has twins and she could carry both in a tricot slen wrap sling. Her photo was used to rpomote the sling.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 16/12/2007 07:43

Oh how lovely! A whole new realm of possibilities to explore. Am ! Take care of yourself, let us know how the scan goes won't you?

bealcain · 16/12/2007 07:45

of course i will ,but its not till the 28th which just happensd to be my 21st! yay! what a present

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 16/12/2007 07:46

she also had a child who was just 14 motnhs older, and she would carry her in a toddler carrier ( that didn't look so comfortable), one twin on the front in the tricot slen, and one twin in the pram. It looked exhausting.

ChirpyGrinch · 16/12/2007 21:12

Ooh, congrats bealcain! and DH is impressed at a girl having a pink gsx1000. the patronising git. so as punishment I am adding a pic of him wearing DD1 at a week old in my wilkinet to my profile, I think you might like it, you too FA!

(FA, hopefully it should get to you tomorrow as I posted it friday)
