She usually does them in half term and holidays I think....

Normsnockers · 16/05/2006 12:45

I need some firm reassurance too as we started two weeks ago but it ain't getting through, ds never asks to go to the loo (although he has done once or twice at nursery) and we are 100% dependent on dh or I remembering to take him every 30/40 mins.

Cod, said in the Easter thread that there is NO GOING BACK TO NAPPIES once you've started but how long do you keep going if they simply don't ask and rely on parental reminders after 2 weeks.

Ds is 3ys and 2 mths and surely should be ready by now ?

I have already bought extra second hand trousers and shorts on eBay so that we don't run out/ wear the washing machine out but my spirit is flagging........

I started to potty train my ds1 in October (he was 2ys and 8 months then) and he did well for a while, but went to the States for Christmas and after coming back he had loads of accidents so put him back in pull-ups. I feel horrible that I did it but was so sick of the accidents. I've been trying again lately, but not seriously. He is still wearing pullups and is doing sticker charts, rewards, etc. but dreading the whole potty training process. Starting to feel the pressure of September when he'll start nursery and needs to be trained. But we have 2 big holidays coming up and, for me, it seems easier to keep him in pullups. But maybe I'm making excuses.

Ds won't wear pull-ups, I've even bought a pack of spiderman pullup training pants (they're supposed to be able to feel that they are wet rather than with ordinary pull-up nappies.

He screams and has a major tantrum over pull-ups as he says they're scratchy/itchy. He'd rather wear an ordinary disposable nappy.

Ds's nursery are not keen on pull-ups anyway as they still seem to think he'll get the hang of asking. I'm beginning to wonder though.

Last weekend I heaved a sigh of relief when we put on a nappy for bedtime and to be honest on Sunday morning we left him in his p.j.'s (and night nappy) until 10.30 a.m. rather than start the whole toileting thing so early in the day.

I think fondly of the weekends when he was in nappies and we could go anywhere without worrying about accidents.

Also cod, when you get here, do you do a night training boot camp? If you do, when's the next one and how will I know if ds1 is ready for it? Smile

Please cod. I'd like to start this Friday.
Just a couple of pointers if you would?

notsoladyjess · 24/05/2006 22:38

well, i have started with my 2.5yr old ds1. day 3 and going ok but he is pretty stubborn and just refuses to get on the potty sometimes.
he did 2 poos in the loo today but i think that was by pure chance. I just feel myself get so stressed out about it and i am sure that is not good for the whole 'encouraging mother' bit. i read in GF (i know, shoot me now) that most children will be happy to sit for 5-10 mins on the potty reading a book - HA!! do me a favour, ds1 sits for 3 seconds, pulls his willy and says 'nothing there mummy'. then 10 mins later he shits himself.
it is rubbish really but i am NOT going back to nappies so will just have to get through it. i know what you mean though, it was so miuch easier when you didn't have to worry about it but it is a necessary thing so we will all just have to do it and then in a few weeks (months?! arghh) they will know what to do?
cod - where are you??

FrayedKnot · 24/05/2006 22:46

I sort of want to start but am freaked by the poo bit.

DS sometimes asks for the potty for wees, can just about get trousers & nappy down, and I know he can hold it for a few minutes, so I think he would get it really quickly, but when he poos, he just hides (or tells me or DH to hide), denies he's about to do one, denies he's done one, etc etc.

How to I get from that to doing it in the potty?

Or do I put teh potty behind the sofa Grin

notsoladyjess · 24/05/2006 22:59

frayedknot - ds1 used to deny doing a poo but in the last few months he will come and tell me when he is about to do one/is doing one/has done one and wannts his nappy changes straight away. i reckon they just get more aware.

i wish i had a nanny to do all this for me but i haven't!! i know that is slack but i wish i could clcick my fingers and it all to be done. damn, i miss out on mother of the year award yet again.

Nightynight · 24/05/2006 23:05

well, dd2 just refuses point blank to sit on the potty at all.
but as Im at work f/t with no prospect of a holiday yet again this summer, she doesnt look like getting trained any time in the near future.

MrsDoolittle · 25/05/2006 22:02
