Cod, do you think a star chart would work for a 2.5yr old?

When DD is doing a poo and I catch her, she just holds it in.

Ive read about getting them to do it in a nappy whilst sitting on the potty/toilet, but seems awkward to get her kit off, put nappy on and go to potty. I feel like Ive lost ATM.

cod · 26/05/2006 20:39

no we just used the loo!

cod · 26/05/2006 20:40

oh GOD yes re star chart! deffo
if you haev an influential friend or auntie to administer it even better. then dd can ring her and tell ehr and you can put the sticker on ayt auntei cods ( fro eg) behest

Good luck all

MrsDoolittle · 27/05/2006 14:52

We have a very spotty child today but in much better mood so we shall persevere.

Out of night nappy and into knickers at 9am. We missed a wee but only just.

Anyway after lunch I sat down beside dd on the potty and pretending to be calling her wee (daft or what?)
"Wee wee, where are you?" Dd thought this was highly amusing and made a big show of trying to squeeze one out. This was the longest I have managed to keep her on the potty or the loo, I guess I have to do this everytime now.
Anyway, she did squeeze one out and also a large poo. Thank God that wasn't in her knickers!!!

Qeue lots of leaping about shouting and and clapping for joy, hysteria in fact. We also phoned Grandma. Dd was thrilled. She got a fun size packet of maltesers, so very chuffed.

Now she is in bed will a prefold nappy under her.

This is hard work though

MarsLady · 27/05/2006 17:20

Well done MDL. I'm right behind you (by a couple of days). You will be my inspiration. Keep up the good work. Grin

MrsDoolittle · 27/05/2006 20:33

We managed to catch the first wee this afternoon. More whooping and praise. More maltesers, although she had had enough by this point.
She had tea, drank loads of water but refused to sit on the pooty or toilet again, but I think this was the old chicken pox finally kicking in this evening.
She was unusually miserable in the bath and very eager to go to bed.

In bed now, but overall I think today went well.

mistressmiggins · 27/05/2006 20:37

CODGrin

DD is nrly 2 - she is always taking her nappy off when she has DONE a wee but has done about 3 to date on the potty/toilet.

at my ex-H at the moment but home tomorrow

Does she sound ready?
I have bought her some knickers from H&M which she loves

is it every 30 mins on toilet?
does she need a sticker chart incentive?

DS (4) was quite late so not sure what to do Blush

cod · 28/05/2006 00:16

no idea
it sp to you
mrs d well done!

dewmeadow · 28/05/2006 10:22

Cod - re: star chart for poos. Started this morning. She had only achieved her first sticker for peeing when it had to be whippped off for poos in the pants. SHe did not like it one bit and cried for a bit. Am I a horrible mum for thinking that having a consequence she does not like will be effective?

By the way, i am going to take 2 stars off for poos but she only had 1.

cod · 28/05/2006 13:55

ooh i htink the fact she is cross may motivate her

dewmeadow · 28/05/2006 14:00

thats what im hoping.[pleading emoticon]

Marne · 28/05/2006 14:01

Ineed your help cod Grin
Started potty training last week, she did 2 wee's on the first day, since then nothing, she screams if i try to sit her on the potty when she wants to wee but is happy to sit on it with nappie on. Tried rewarding with sweats but its not working.
What should i do, should i leave it for a week than start again?

cod · 28/05/2006 17:03

"she screams if i try to sit her on the potty when she wants to wee but is happy to sit on it with nappie on"

dewmeadow · 28/05/2006 18:45

Another sticker for peeing - another pooey pants episode!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!

MrsDoolittle · 28/05/2006 18:55

So today.
Night nappy off and pants on again at 9am.
Missed a wee, then a bit later I walked into the living room "Oooh it smells in here!" Poo in pants!!
Dh was there all the time and didn't notice Shock

Wee's during nap, I was mowing the lawn and she was crying to do a wee when i came in - too late. My fault again.

Out in the garden this afternoon, planting sunflowers, she told me wanted to wee. We missed the potty, but only just.
Then later dh and I drinking cider outside, dd came and sat down on the potty beside us and did a wee! We were all very pleased. Lots of praise.

She is off her food though so the sweets don't seem to be as effective as I thought they might be. She could take them or leave them. However, she went to bed on a good note.

MarsLady · 29/05/2006 09:51

Are you about coddy?

The pants are on, much to the delight of the DTs.

What now? Is it every 15 mins or 30 mins? Smile

MarsLady · 29/05/2006 09:52

Well done for yesterday MrsD Grin

cod · 29/05/2006 14:13

well doen mrs d! sounds totally average imo

mars how is it going

MarsLady · 29/05/2006 15:28

The floor is wet lol! Lots of wiping up.

DT1 loves sitting on her pink potty singing songs. Actually she's far more thrilled about pulling her knickers up and down.

DT2 loves singing weeeeeeeeeeee weeeeeeeeeeee, but clearly hasn't a clue. I've begun to know when he's going to wee though. It's just a case of getting to the potty on time. He quite likes handling his penis and isn't so keen on his pants, so nakid it is!

So, today is the wet day. Nothing has made it into a potty yet, but I haven't given up hope for today. Smile

Hayls · 29/05/2006 16:30

I've been trying to potty rtrain dd since last week (on and off admittedly). SHe went fine at nursery last week but numerous accidents at home (even on my bed) and none have made it into the potty. BEcause she was OK at nursery we decided to persevere with it but today ahs made me very worried. She had a wet nappy at 7.30 this morning and we put her pants on then. She hasn't weed since then! She refused to wear a pair of pull ups when we were going out so we took the potty with us and she sat on it a couple of times but nothing... She's been on it a few times today but often refuses point blank to go on it so we don't force her. BUt this is now 9 hours without going to the toilet!! Shock She has had a fair amount to drink so I think she is holding it in (even during 2 hour nap). I suspected it was apower thing cos she went at nursery but not at home.
What to do, what to do?
Any advice would be truly appreciated

cod · 29/05/2006 17:58

hayls oyu nmeed to set a target that you will NEVER go back to any form of nappy ( ceot at night)

and start being quite concientious
have yo the reward sweets?
gdo you do a big whoop whne hse wees?

when she wees ont he floor quietly remind her that she goes ont he potty

how old?

Hayls · 29/05/2006 19:10

I'm determined not to go back. She's 2yrs 4months. Just after I posted she wet her pants then sat on the sofa and did it again 10 mins later- after I had sat her on the potty and explained the whole potty story again. I just cleaned it all up and got her changed- no fuss! We've got a sticker chart and potty sweeties and she'll sit on the potty ybut won't do anything.

Also bought the Bear potty DVD but she's sick of watching it.
Maybe she just isn't ready yet?

MrsDoolittle · 29/05/2006 19:27

Hayls - I feel like that sometimes but when we catch it, I feel better Smile

Very wet nappy this morning when I took it off. Dd has very bad chicken pox around her bottom, they look very sore. I shall keep her in pants or bare because I feel this will help to dry them up.

However, she was quite miserable this morning when she got up. No accidents but I must confess to putting a nappy back on her and giving her calpol at 11am to put her back to bed, she was so miserable. She slept for 4 hours and suspect she had a high temperature as she had been sweating but she woke up in a much better mood.

No problem putting her pants on, but very unwilling to sit on the potty when I suggested and seemed to prefer the loo. However, dh and I were out of sight at the computer this afternoon and when I went to look for her she was crying outside our closed bedroom door. She crying that she wanted a wee. She didn't appear wet but when I pulled her trousers down the wee had gone straight down her leg and into her wellie!! I discovered this becaise there was a sloshing sound as I took it off Blush My fault again!!

Anyway, a couple of very smelly parps indicated that she needed to poo but she wouldn't even though I must have sat her on the potty or toilet half a dozen times, we sang and said rhymes until we were blue in the face. Nothing!!
Then this afternoon I was feeding ds and her face changed. I called to dh and just in time they got to the potty and caught and absolute stinker!!! I was very pleased it was not in either pants or nappy. Lots of praise and smiles.

Thankfully, we go to bed again on a good note.
However, I am still not sure if we are getting anywhere or it's all just coincidence.

Mars - well done you for doing two!!

I am drinking a very necessary, large G&T after putting them to bed.
