90 days only

I’ve just found out that my husband has slept with someone else. My world has fallen apart and I don’t know what to do.

Just that really. I can’t believe this is happening. I feel like I’m in a nightmare. We have a 3 year old DD. The OW sent me a message from a private instagram account because H had blocked her actual accounts on my phone without my knowledge. He works with her.

He’d gone to her birthday party which I knew about. Didn’t come home until after 4am which isn’t normal for him so I wasn’t happy and we had plans the next day. He said they’d all gone somewhere after the party. Turns out he was with her in a hotel down the road. This was weeks ago and he hadn’t told me.

When I confronted him he eventually admitted it. Said that he couldn’t explain it at first. Then said that there was distance between us and he was weak and naive. We were arguing a lot. He’s been struggling with his mental health and I’ve been doing my best to support him whilst working full-time in a stressful job. I thought we were just going through a rough patch.

I’m literally shaking. I don’t have a lot of family and I haven’t told anyone IRL yet. He says it doesn’t have to be over. But it does doesn’t it?

it is not up to him if it is over or not - what do you want to do?

Lndnmummy · 01/10/2026 21:12

Im so sorry. Here for a handhold.
You are in shock. Do not make any decisions now.

TallSturdyGirls · 01/10/2026 21:12

So sorry. Ask him to leave now. Contact one or two friends and tell them.
Someone will come along with better advice.

worldshottestmom · 01/10/2026 21:13

Of course HE says it doesn't have to be over because he wants to have his cake and eat it. Tell him to fuck off with his excuses blaming you when the reality is that he's a weak-willed piece of shit who doesn't deserve you. Imagine doing that to the morher of his own child. Wouldn't even say anything else to him tbh just serve him the divorce papers and rid yourself of this thing. Enjoy your new life with your DD away from someone who would have the audacity to do this to you. Sorry op

thisgirlwantsmore · 01/10/2026 21:14

It doesn’t have to be over but his behaviour over the next few months will let you know how remorseful / sorry he is.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 01/10/2026 21:15

Oh no OP, you poor thing. Sorry no great advice her but i would suggest you do not do or say anything rash until you have time to process. Ask him to leave short term or go away yourself for a few days to think. Then give yourself a month or two more to think. You can't possibly know right now what you are going to do long term.

MyHeartisinTwo · 01/10/2026 21:16

I don’t know what I want to do. He’s gone out for now. I don’t know where. He says he’ll do anything , go to marriage counselling etc. I hate him for doing this to us but I don’t know how I would cope as a single mum 😢

TiramisuTastesDreamy · 01/10/2026 21:16

So sorry OP. He’s trying to save his skin so will make you think it doesn’t have to be over. As PPs have said, think about what you want to do, you have had a nasty shock - take as much time as you need to think things over. He doesn’t get to call the shots here.

ratatouillemousesqueak · 01/10/2026 21:16

Sorry to read this.

don’t allow him to blame you or his MH. This is all him. I think you need to think carefully about what you want. Could you trust him again?

from afar yes I think I’d say it’s over. But realistically when you have kids and your life is so entwined, it’s just not that easy.

counselling? Take a break?

whatever happens you shouldn’t decide now.

Rachelshair · 01/10/2026 21:17

If you might want him back in the future, chuck him out now so he knows what he would be losing. It's an awful breach of trust and a huge shock. If it has no real consequences he'll just do it again.
It's not up to him to decide what your deal breakers are. Insist on some space to process things.

Citronella321 · 01/10/2026 21:18

I've been in a similar situation.
My very best advice for you at this minute is to tell him you need time to get your head round this and ask him to stay away for a couple of days. Do not tell him it's over.
That buys you time to stop and think.
Next step. Get Leave A Cheater Gain a Life on audio book and listen to the first chapter at least 3 times tonight. It'll actually give you sensible advice that you need right now. Personally, I'd act on it.
Next step tell 1 trusted savvy friend.

Shadesofscarlett · 01/10/2026 21:20

he'll do anything, but he has gone out and you don't know where?

bloody hell. so he scuttled over to see her again already. STI test for you and he needs to leave surely.

PashaMinaMio · 01/10/2026 21:21

If you continue your life with him you might find yourself triggered by so many things.
(You see him naked & it makes you think “she’s seen him like that.”)

Oh how awful incidents like that can be. So many of them.

Frankly you may never be able to trust your cheating lying husband ever again. Good luck with that. I know what I’d do.

Don’t make a decision now, tell him to go and stay elsewhere, and give yourself a couple of weeks to work out what you want to do.

You CAN come back from infidelity, but whether you SHOULD is a totally different question, and one you can’t answer without space.

Please though, of all the things you take from this, please know that you can be a single woman and a good mum at the same time, you don’t need a husband to cope. Your DC will still have her dad, you just won’t have to put up with his nonsense, if that’s what you choose.

Was going to basically say everything this poster has.
And as for how you’d cope as a single mum, you’d be a fucking brilliant one for teaching your daughter (in the long term) that women don’t put up with shitty behaviour from shitty men, what an amazing life lesson to see such a strong mum.
reach out to a friend/family member for support. The strength of women never ever ceases to amaze me, we really can do incredibly hard things.
sending you comfort and strength, I can only imagine how horrible it must feel having the rug pulled out from underneath you like his, shock then anger etc, all the emotions will come eventually.
You deserve better darling, so does your dd.

MyHeartisinTwo · 01/10/2026 21:26

I’m so grateful for all the replies- thank you. It just doesn’t seem real. I did tell him that it’s over but he kept insisting that it doesn’t have to be. We’ve been married nearly 10 years, together 16. I don’t know how I’ll get through this. I don’t know life without him. Fuck.

OP posts:
EmpressStorm · 01/10/2026 21:32

If you forgive him and stay with him. When the smoke clears he will lose all respect for you, he will be looking at you behind his eyes thinking he’d never have stayed with you if you shagged another man, and feel disdain for you thay you are so reliant. You will have a life time of affairs.

end it, this isn’t thr last time, it’s the first. Or the first you know about.

Sassylovesbooks · 01/10/2026 21:32

You don't have to do anything right now. You are naturally upset/angry because your husband has blown your world apart. You need time to digest, and decide what YOU want to do.

Clearly your marriage, as far as your husband is concern is less than rosy. When he says 'there's been distance between you' is that a way of saying that he's not getting enough sex? You have a young child, both work, life can be mundane, and time for each other is taken away. Often men, especially those used to having their wife's undivided attention, suddenly discover they're no longer the centre of her universe, when a baby comes along. It's then they stray.

Regardless of the reasons behind your husband having sex with another woman, he chose to do so. The woman didn't put a gun to his head and force him, he made that choice. Your husband is responsible for his own behaviour, no one else.

Don't for one minute think the OW told you, out the kindness of her heart, or because you thinks 'you deserve to know'. Nine times out of ten, it's for revenge. If this woman works with your husband or at least for the same company, then it's likely she knew your husband is married.

My advice would be to do nothing drastic right now. Most definitely gather as much paperwork as you can, and make an appointment to see a solicitor asap. There's absolutely nothing wrong, in seeing where you stand legally, whilst you mull the situation over. If you do then decide to go down the divorce path, you'll already have your advice.

If you decided to stay in the marriage, then your husband needs to go to marriage counselling. He needs to change jobs/departments, so he's no longer working with this woman. He needs to show you, that he's willing to jump through hoops, to make the marriage work. Remember, actions speak louder than words. If he gives you a good speech but he makes zero effort, then you would be better off divorcing.

And he would still have the disrespect to do this to you. He would still rip apart your family like this. Imagine you did this to him

Mydellisdelling · 01/10/2026 21:33

The key thing to remember here op is, going forward is whatever YOU want it to be. Not him, you. He made his choices and frankly? They were shit. And not in your best interests, at all. As he knew all too well. YOU choose from now on. Tell him this.
First step is boot him out. You cannot process such a massive betrayal whilst the person that betrayed you is in your space. He leaves. If he wants to “save” this, that is non negotiable.
Second is tell a trusted friend. Do not try to handle this alone if at all possible.
Third is give yourself time. As much time as it takes, months if necessary. If that useless lying fucker isn’t prepared to wait? That tells you what you need to know.
And in the face of his pathetic “it doesn’t need to be over” bollocks, I’d ask him to seriously consider if he thought that before or after he stuck his dick in her? And also, if it would “have to be over” if YOU had shagged someone else? Food for thought, for him.
In time, you will know what YOU want to do. Not what is best for your DD, not what a load of internet strangers say, not what he wants, what you want. And that is the most important thing. You will get there, good luck xx

I suggest you visit the "Just Found Out" section of the forum at survivinginfidelity.com.

They will help you work out whether reconciliation is for you.

Releasemeplease · 01/10/2026 21:34

So sorry this has happened OP.

One thing is for sure if he doesn't want your marriage to be over he has to do everything humanly possible to regain your trust. And that will involve finding another job because if he continues to work with this woman no doubt their relationship will continue. Atm you have no idea how long something has been going on between them.

His initial reaction trying to blame you is not very hopeful OP.

Please take your time and try and get support from some one you are close to irl.

This to a T. If it was your DD you wouldn't want her to stay with someone like this, who would treat her so badly.

Autumngirl5 · 01/10/2026 21:34

I’m so sorry. It doesn’t have to be over but you are in shock so please don’t make any decisions at the moment.
If it helps, one of my relations found out that her husband had been having an affair.
After a while they decided to try again and are still together 20 years later and she says they are happier than ever.

What she said!

you would cope. You’d be a strong brave woman for doing the best for you and your family.

it probably doesn’t feel like it right now. Shock will take a while. Your life doesn’t have to revolve around a man.

so sorry OP. Hug your DD closely
