This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters and their babies, who have been testing a range of HiPP Organic baby food jars of both breakfast and savoury dishes.

Here’s what HiPP Organic have to say about their jars: “with our nutritious recipes, including a pure veg range, your child will develop a love for a variety of foods - including savoury and sweet. Offering more vegetables than fruit during weaning helps move your little one away from a natural preference for sweeter tastes, which may help reduce fussy eating later on. That’s why at HiPP Organic, our savoury recipes taste savoury.

“Jars allow babies to see and smell the food they are tasting, which is important for food recognition and acceptance. They’re also perfect for feeding with a spoon, encouraging hand-eye coordination and self-feeding.

“For more than 60 years, generations of babies have been raised on HiPP Organic's delicious and organic food. In fact, the family-run business produces the only organic jar range available in the UK!”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the below questions and completing the survey we’ll email you shortly.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

All testers who complete the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a ÂŁ300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Spaghetti Bolognese

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

Some tasty vegetable flavours and the jars seem a bit to small I think.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

I really would, my daughter loves them and so do a few other babies I know, plus, the ingredients are all organic and full of good stuff!

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

If they were in some kind of sale in-store then yes. Otherwise, unfortunately as we're on a tight budget, it's more financially viable for us to make our own meals at home sadly.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

My daughter absolutely loved the breakfast ones - banana yoghurt and porridge I think? She also really enjoyed the buttered veg one, those were the three that she finished in one without any 'aeroplane spoon' persuasion!

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

The only thing I'll say is that I wish there were some for older children with a lumpier texture, maybe a 12 month + range. My daughter enjoyed all of them to be honest, but, I think she was slightly confused as to why she had a vegetable yoghurt ;) as yoghurt is the only thing she really eats of that texture now.

1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes, the flavours and textures are great for starting out. The ingredients are good and the variety seems pretty good too.

2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes, I don't use ready made foods regularly, but they are really convenient now and again and for taking out.

3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Buttered vegetables.

4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

As my son is now 11 months he could do with chunkier foods, (probably too old for these jars) especially as I have been mainly doing baby led weaning.

I liked that you can see the product through the jar, with the pouches you don't really know what you are getting.

I like that it is all natural organic ingredients.

Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes definitely. The variety is great and actually they all tasted fresh and of real food that they may eat everyday.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes definitely. In fact I went into boots and already bought some more!

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

Could do with having chunkier textures

1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes, these went down well with my little one.

2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes, i already have, when they are on special offer 6 for ÂŁ5 etc.

3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

I'd say it was a toss up between spaghetti bolognese and the banana breakfast.

4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

The food is very smooth so they are were great as first foods and those at the start of the weaning journey. They were tasty (i tried them all!), and the jars were easy to open. The glass jars are quite heavy when carrying around in a bag so maybe a easier recyclable plastic jar would be lighter and more economical. Otherwise we were both very pleased with the product.

Yes I would.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes definitely.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Chicken and squash. .

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

They were quick and easy and had an unusual mix of flavours.

The banana yogurt didn't go down well, tasted a bit sour.

WishUponAStar88 · 10/01/2018 10:18

I fed back positively a while ago but since then have tried washing clothes that had some of the pasta (I think) jar on them and they’re a flipping nightmare to wash. I only have non bio wash in admittedly due to skin sensitivities but yheuve been washed 3 times including with vanish/ napisan with no luck. For this reason I’d be hesitant to buy the pasta jar again.

Northernexile · 10/01/2018 15:50

Thanks for letting us do the testing.

  1. Yes, I would be happy to recommend. They all went down well apart from the porridge one.
  2. Yes, I like the brand, that they are organic and he loved the savoury jars.
  3. Penne pasta and bolognese equally.
  4. Liked: Organic, not an endless list of weird chemically ingredients, baby enjoyed the savoury ones, good size jar. Disliked: Very orange baby afterwards, he hated the porridge and maybe a little more texture needed for older babies (mine was just 8 months and a fairly slow starter on solids, but he can handle more lumps than this).

  2. Yes
  3. Spaghetti Bolognese
  4. The thickness was just right for my baby. I loved that they were all made from organic ingredients and not full of salt and nasties.
MotherCupboard · 12/01/2018 20:46

I never did receive a survey link.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? No! I would recommend they give baby something homemade, it's not hard. However if I knew they were going to use jars then I would vouch for HiPP as being really good ingredients with no additives.
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? If I was out unexpectedly at mealtime without any suitable food for baby then possibly. Not as a regular thing though.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
Mediterranean veg by a long way. He made "ummm" noises and tried to grab the spoon like he does on his normal food. He also liked the sweet squash and chicken. The others I had to mix with other food, or add herbs / spices, to get him to finish the jar.
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? I really like the packaging (re-usable and recyclable) and thought the portion size was good. I loved the fact I knew what all the ingredients were, they were all things that would be in homemade food without mysterious preservatives etc. Disliked the very smooth texture in most of the jars - it was verging on slimy in some (esp the penne pasta one). He is 8 months and used to lumps so if I was buying a jar I would look for one with some texture. I thought some were a bit bland too.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes definitely
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Yes. I do mostly homemade but these are great for on the go
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? Spaghetti
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?fish - he doesn’t like fish at all though
Realityjunkie · 14/01/2018 21:14
  1. Yes, I would definitely recommend. Jars seem a bit old fashioned compared to pouches but they work well.

  2. yes, I would definitely buy them. My son does not like savoury foods from other brands and liked HIPP.

  3. He liked the bolagnaise.

  4. We liked all of them. They were very smooth except one. That is probably why my son liked them but he needs more texture.

Annilack · 15/01/2018 09:49
  1. I would recommend for those just stating to wean.
  2. I wouldn't, my son now requires more chunky textures
  3. His favourite was Spaghetti Bolognese
  4. The texture was too smooth for him, but this would have been ideal in the early days of weaning. Great jars for on the go.
Padget · 15/01/2018 14:02
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
I would, because I support the organic industry so if someone was looking at using baby food I would suggest this brand.
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
I don’t tend to use them out and about as my son is 11m old and will eat anything but I would keep a couple of jars of veggie ones to use as pasta sauces when I’m busy
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
Med veg (came out the same colour though!!)
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
They were too smooth for him at 11m to have by themselves but they made good pasta sauces (the veg ones) or with fish or chicken (the penne with veg one) I liked that if I only had one fresh ingredient the jar would add a couple more things like carbs & veg. They should be advertised as ideal for sauces for older babies as well as a meal for younger babies

Yes
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Yes
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
Sweet squash and chicken
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
My daughter liked most of the jars, not keen on the Mediterranean veg one. I liked the glass jars (no nasty plastics leaching into the food), the pop up buttons so you know if the seal's been broken, the convenient sizes and the fact they are organic.
Nesseli · 15/01/2018 23:00
  1. Yes, I would recommend this product for between 6-8 months however it is not appropriate for 8 month and older. Due to the lack of texture to the formula.
  2. I would use this product again but for a younger baby.
  3. Spaghetti bolaganese
  4. My son didn’t enjoy the porridge I believe it is because he does not enjoy milk. He also didn’t really seem to the texture either.
JordOfTheManor · 16/01/2018 01:03
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
In the first month of weaning as an option for on the go, yes
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Yes
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
Sweet squash and chicken
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
Liked: Good size, natural tasting, thicker purée, organic Disliked: Most jars had added rice flour which seems unnecessary bulk without nutritional value. Not really lumpy / interesting enough texture-wise for 7m+ (though work well as a base eg for pasta or meat).
foxfox · 16/01/2018 07:44
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes I would.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

I would certainly buy the desert / yoghurt style jars. My baby didn’t seem keen on most of the savoury flavours, but I would put this down to her preference, rather than anything being wrong with the recipe. I’ve used a mix of home made food and pouches when weaning, and now she’s mostly having what we have for dinner mashed up. I think the jars are perhaps a little bland when she’s been having stronger flavours with us. She’s also used to more texture now. The jars are quite smooth.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Banana yoghurt breakfast. My baby can’t get enough of this one! I’ve already been out to buy more!

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I like that there’s an enormous selection available. So much choice and variety. It’s easy to get stuck in the same meals pattern. For a 6 month old baby starting out with weaning I think these jars are an excellent option. I would certainly look to use these with my next baby. I wanted to try the jars in this product test, because I’ve always considered jars to be inferior to the pouches. I don’t know why I had this notion, apart from maybe seeing the jars of slop being dished out to my brother twenty years ago. The packaging perhaps makes a different too, with the jars seeming old fashioned compared to the modern pouches. But I’m pleased to have been proven wrong. I’ll absolutely buy the jars next time round. Glass jars are also much easier to recycle too, which appeals enormously.

Summerflake · 16/01/2018 10:56
  1. Yes, loved them.
  2. Yes, they are the best quality food I've tried. Unfortunately I'm struggling to find a good range of them in any local supermarkets.
  3. She loved the banana porridge the best, squeals if excitement while eating it!
  4. The quality just seemed much better than other jars I've tried, glossier and thicker, really lovely.

I've switched from my previous brand over to Hipp as I really found them much better quality.

silverrose56 · 16/01/2018 11:01
  1. No, they were very 'orange' and didn't introduce many flavours
  2. No
  3. Banana yoghurt breakfast
  4. My son refused all but the banana yoghurt breakfast

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes I would recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or Family members especially when they are about to wean their little one.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Yes totally just bought more at the weekend.. My little one loved them all.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
My little one loved the Mediterranean vegetables with aubergine & mixed vegetable medley.♡♡
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I liked the texture of the dinners for my little one as she has breathing problems so finds it really hard to have anything to chunky when eating.. so the smoothness was great! Warmed up great and perfect portion of my little one. Liked the range of different flavours & tastes ♡♡

Weemargaret · 16/01/2018 23:24
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes I would, I think they are a healthy and fun product to help wean your child. There is a good variety of flavours and their smooth texture makes them palatable for most young children. I think they are a good size for weaning children. However, they really are only suitable for the earliest stages of weaning due to them all being smooth, it might be a good idea to introduce a range of textures for older children.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes, definitely. While I like preparing my own foods for weaning this is a good option if I don't have the time to prepare my own food or if I am out and about. One of the main criteria for buying baby food is that my child actually enjoys them and gets the chance to try new flavours at the same time. These products fulfilled both of these criteria.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

My daughter preferred the two sweet options but she liked all of them and ate all of them.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I liked that she liked them all and ate them all. I liked that they suited her stage of weaning at the minute and that they gave her the opportunity to try new flavours. I didn't really like that they are in glass bottles because I like to take pre-prepared baby food out and about, it is one of my main reasons for buying it, and I was worried that the glass might break. They are also only really suitable for the earliest stages of weaning due to them all being smooth and being very small, older children would have a bigger appetite.

Thank you for letting me try these, both my daughter and I enjoyed trying these products!

1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
He seemed to really like the creamy porridge and banana ones.

4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
Liked the thickness of the food. Good variety of flavours. Love the fact they are made organically so no nasties. Good portion size and so easy to spoon feed.
