This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters and their babies, who have been testing a range of HiPP Organic baby food jars of both breakfast and savoury dishes.

Here’s what HiPP Organic have to say about their jars: “with our nutritious recipes, including a pure veg range, your child will develop a love for a variety of foods - including savoury and sweet. Offering more vegetables than fruit during weaning helps move your little one away from a natural preference for sweeter tastes, which may help reduce fussy eating later on. That’s why at HiPP Organic, our savoury recipes taste savoury.

“Jars allow babies to see and smell the food they are tasting, which is important for food recognition and acceptance. They’re also perfect for feeding with a spoon, encouraging hand-eye coordination and self-feeding.

“For more than 60 years, generations of babies have been raised on HiPP Organic's delicious and organic food. In fact, the family-run business produces the only organic jar range available in the UK!”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the below questions and completing the survey we’ll email you shortly.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

All testers who complete the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a ÂŁ300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  1. Yes, but only for early weaning. My baby is 8months old now and quite adventurous with food so these were a few steps back. Saying that, over Christmas he was just coming out of a cold and wasn't himself, and these were perfect. The size, and texture were ideal for a small appetite.
  2. Yes, but I'd be interested to see the next stage on.
  3. He really enjoyed them all and I found the breakfast one to be really handy.
  4. The size of the jars was too small, I rather bigger jars that he could leave some if he wanted. Also, they were very smooth in texture, I had expected some light texture.
BuffaloCustardbath · 03/01/2018 14:54
  1. Yes I'd definitely recommend them, they're perfect for out and about I found.
  2. I'll definitely buy the breakfast ones again, and possibly the savoury ones to use as sauces with pasta etc.
  3. The breakfast ones went down a storm, the penne pasta was thoroughly enjoyed too.
  4. I like that they're organic, it's a brand name I know and trust, and I like watching my baby enjoying them and shouting for more!
loz12345 · 03/01/2018 15:06

1, I would recommend them

2,I would buy them again although only if we were staying in as I would worry about travelling anywhere with them due to the glass jars

3, The banana breakfast one went down a treat ds is only 6 mnts and it was the only one he managed to eat the full jar of.

4, From ds point of view he hated the creamed porridge (and he usually likes porridge) he gagged on the first spoonful and refused to open his mouth for anymore. From my point of view other food we have tried can be stored opened in the fridge for 48hrs whereas these were only 24 hrs I am sure as he gets bigger this will be less of an issue but at the moment he is only really tasting food and not eating much so it's handy to be able to pop them in the fridge for a bit longer.

AllTheWayDown · 03/01/2018 15:50

1 - I would definitely recommend these.
2 - I would buy them again, baby seemed to like them and they are handy for on the go too.
3 - DD loved squash & chicken and also the banana one, she got so excited after the first spoonful.
4 - the textures were great and really easy for baby to eat.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes although I’d probably go for the next stage for a bit more texture

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

He loved the penne pasta and also buttered veg

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

He isn’t a complicated creature so was just happy to have something tasty. I liked the convenience, the fact they are organic, recyclable jars and the purées themselves were a good texture and the right quantity for us at the moment.

Hollypops1 · 03/01/2018 17:06

. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

No, I didn't feel these were as good as my usual brand which is Ella's kitchen.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

No, I would not as I prefer other brands and there was nothing to persuade me switch in this range.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

The vegetable ones were preferred over the sweeter ones and she seemed to enjoy the aubergine one more than the others.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I didn't like the size of the jars as they were a bit on the small side in terms of food amounts.
I think they are less convenient than pouches. Although good that they are resealable, I'm not sure you would end up saving any given the portion size.
The texture, I thought, was awful - really gloopy and thick, the smooth purees we usually use are much nicer and these felt almost sticky in comparison.
Easier to heat as you can use the microwave (with care)
All seemed fairly Similar in the range compared s to other ranges with a more diverse range of ingredients.
I wanted to like these but I just really didn't! And more importantly my daughter who eats pretty much anything with enthusiasm wasn't really interested in these, although she did eat them.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
My 8 month old enjoyed these jars. The flavours were good and they were handy when out and about
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Only if on offer
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
The vegetable one
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
I liked the jar size and rich flavour. No dislikes really, just a bit pricey to others on the market
Helsbels81 · 03/01/2018 19:54
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
Yes I would recommend for the early stages of weaning.
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
I would consider buying them for DD if they catered for the next stage of weaning. She is 9 months and quite adventurous; the jars supplied didn't really satisfy her and lacked texture.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
She wolfed down the two breakfast jars!
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
I liked the range of flavours for a baby just starting their weaning journey. The size of the portions for a 6 month baby seemed about right. For my baby, I did not like the lack of texture and the small potion sizes. Also a few of the jars were very 'orange' and stained her clothes and face for quite a while afterwards.
Serenrose · 03/01/2018 20:50
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Some of the flavours but not all.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes, some of the flavours I would buy. However they are quite expensive.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Spaghetti Bolognese.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

Likes: Some flavours went down really well, spaghetti bolognese and buttered vegetables in particular.
Handy portion size for her appetite (7 months old).
Resealable jars.

Dislikes: Staining of her skin, bib and also the straps on the highchair was annoying.
I did not give her the sweet squash and chicken flavour as my HV has advised me to not to feed her savoury meals flavoured with fruit or sweet flavours.
Some of the flavours were made with ingredients that made them seem more complicated than they needed to be, for example the banana yoghurt flavour contained lemon juice and rice. The lemon juice tasted sharp to me and she didn't eat much of this one.
The creamed porridge was very runny.
Limited microwave heating instructions.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Yes
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? The aubergine one.
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? He didn't like the breakfast ones but liked the savoury flavours (except fish, I tried it myself and it was extremely fishy! Too overpowering I think). He has a small appetite and usually only has a few mouthfuls of purees we've tried before but ate half a jar each time with these of the ones he liked which was good going for him. The texture was just right for starting out. We will definitely be trying some of the next stage ones.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

If I wanted a jar then I would definitely consider them

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Sweet squash and chicken

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

Good - There was a good range of flavours to try.

Bad - A few stained clothing as well as the high chair tray

iamcalledemma · 04/01/2018 09:10

I tested these with my 10 month old.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes, they would be great for a baby starting to wean - my son loved all the savoury jars, and they are a good size. My son would probably prefer more texture but he is older.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
I would buy Hipp Organic jars again but would go for the older baby range, I have used the toddler meals before for my older son and liked them. I wouldn't buy the breakfast range as there are plenty of easy baby friendly options anyway.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

He liked the spaghetti Bolognese and the fish pie with vegetables.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
The only one I couldn't get him to eat was the banana yoghurt one which was a surprise as I thought he would love it! I would prefer more texture but again that is because I have an older baby. Some more adventurous flavours might be welcomed too. That said, we enjoyed testing them, my son ate them all and enjoyed them (apart from banana yoghurt) and they seem good value.
2sCompany · 04/01/2018 09:16
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes, they are useful for a quick and easy meal, especially when out and about.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Probably, we have tried the pouches as well, which are very handy when not at home.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Fish and veg and penne pasta.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

You could smell and taste the ingredients in all the jars, which was good. I liked the clear labelling on the packaging so we knew exactly what we were getting

Disliked that the majority of flavours were orange in colour. Would be nice to be able to offer more of a variety such as just green veg for example.

(Btw, there was no price point given in the last question of the survey, so was unable to answer that one!)

tinygigolo · 04/01/2018 12:19
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes, as a quick fix they've gone down well and aren't full of fruit like some of the competitors (Ella!)
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Yes for when I'm out and about but not for every meal
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? Penne Pasta
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? I liked the size, they were a bit more sensible than some of the mammoth ones you see for a younger baby. And I liked that they weren't full of fruit as some savoury pouches can be
I disliked that they were quite so smooth, I think for the 6+ months a bit of texture would have been a good thing
fei0131 · 04/01/2018 12:35
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
Yes.
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes, though I'd like to try the next stage up because my baby is 9 months old and these were very smooth.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

She loved the Mediterranean vegetables with aubergine.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

We liked most of them - interesting savoury flavours which my baby really enjoyed. I wasn't so keen on the breakfast jars. My baby didn't like the creamed porridge at all, she refused it after one mouthful. She liked the banana yoghurt but I thought it was too sweet for a breakfast and I would prefer to give it as a dessert.
I liked the size of the jars, which were usually enough for two portions for my baby as she doesn't eat a lot yet.

K4YL33 · 04/01/2018 15:02
  1. Yes i would recommend to others.
  2. Yes i would buy again but only for a smaller baby. My little one eats more than a jar contained. Puddings were good though.
  3. Banana one
  4. The flavours were nice. Would like chunkier textures and bigger portion sizes as my little one has an appetite.
bobgoblin · 04/01/2018 15:38
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Yes. My baby really enjoyed them.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? Spaghetti bolognaise.
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? The flavours were good and they were very easy to use. We probably won't use them for long because the texture is more suited to babies just starting weaning and my baby is starting to prefer lumpier textures and finger food.
MacNcheese87 · 04/01/2018 16:03

Haven't got through all the jars yet but I will try my best to answer accurately! Baby is 6 months old, acutely stubborn and trying foods for the first time.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes, I use the baby milk and am familiar with the brand. I like the marketing and I'm confident all the ingredients are organic.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
* I would buy a few as back up to making my own food for baby. Price dependant.*
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
* Anything sweet gets the vote here. Banana porridge went down well, chicken and vegetables was a fail (well, not from the dogs point of view)*
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
* Handy little jars, just the right size for weaning a young baby. Jars meant I could bring them out with me and I wasn't worried about them going bad in my bag. There was a good variety even if they looked similar in the jars. We like that Hipp are organic.*
samdobson · 04/01/2018 16:13

Yes we liked them!
Yes we’d hit again!
He wasn’t a fan of the porridge one.
Nothing i would change.

Thank you!

benfrance · 04/01/2018 17:24
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
Yes I would, but it was very puréed so only suitable at the beginning stages of weaning
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
No
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
Buttered vegetables
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
As my daughter is now ten months, she is used to a little more texture. However she seemed to like all the flavours. We ended up using the jars as a base and added other ingredients to them.
Genzymoo · 04/01/2018 18:03
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Probably not. I would not un-recommend it, or be negative; it’s just my daughter was not desperately keen on them. She was a bit fussy with them, in a way that she is not with some other brands.i don’t think it was so much that there was anything wrong with them; just not particularly liked by my DD.
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Possibly, for the ones that she liked. I liked that they were organic, and reasonably-priced.
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? The pasta Bolognaise.
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? I think it was the texture she was not a fan of. They are very smooth, and I think she prefers more texture. Probably very good for first weaning. She also liked the banana yogurt.
jodiebeaumont1909 · 04/01/2018 19:10
  1. Yes
  2. Probably but the serving size is a bit small
3.the buttered vegetables
  1. Liked the range of flavours and the fact it isn't all fruit based but could do with being a bit bigger
PicklePantsx2 · 04/01/2018 19:47
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
Not really. I wouldn't warn against them but I wouldn't sing their praises either.
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
No
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
Didn't notice a difference.
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
Too watery. When she invariably grabbed the spoon and waved it around it went everywhere. They were nice to have when the family meal was unsuitable for the baby to make me feel like she was having some vegetables but she would only take a couple of spoons (and spit them out) before getting cross. I think she just prefers finger foods so it's not a criticism of Hipp! I like the idea of using them as a pasta sauce. I think they are too smooth even for a 6 month baby.
likeacrow · 04/01/2018 19:56
  1. Yes I would recommend.
  2. Yes I would buy HiPP Organic jars again and have.
  3. My baby’s favourite was the chicken & sweet squash.
  4. My 8 month old really enjoyed these as she found the smooth texture easy to swallow and seemed to enjoy most of the flavours. My only concern is that it could lead to fussiness over coarser textures/lumps. I'm also not convinced they're as good as home cooked food, but they are fantastic for convenience.
hanliying · 04/01/2018 20:49
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Yes
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? banana breakfast porridge
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? Love it as it is easy to use and taste good as well.
