This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters and their babies, who have been testing a range of HiPP Organic baby food jars of both breakfast and savoury dishes.

Here’s what HiPP Organic have to say about their jars: “with our nutritious recipes, including a pure veg range, your child will develop a love for a variety of foods - including savoury and sweet. Offering more vegetables than fruit during weaning helps move your little one away from a natural preference for sweeter tastes, which may help reduce fussy eating later on. That’s why at HiPP Organic, our savoury recipes taste savoury.

“Jars allow babies to see and smell the food they are tasting, which is important for food recognition and acceptance. They’re also perfect for feeding with a spoon, encouraging hand-eye coordination and self-feeding.

“For more than 60 years, generations of babies have been raised on HiPP Organic's delicious and organic food. In fact, the family-run business produces the only organic jar range available in the UK!”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the below questions and completing the survey we’ll email you shortly.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

All testers who complete the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a ÂŁ300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

1-yes, they went down very well with my 8 month old daughter
2- yes, my daughter enjoyed the meals and as a parent I could see the ingredients were natural.
3- penne pasta was my daughters favourite I was surprised my daughter enjoyed the fish pie as it was quite strong smelling.
4- the porridge was not as thick as she is used to so that did not go down as well as the others.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Probably not- I think they were all a bit samey. All a bit orange. I also make an effort to feed my baby a lot more protein than is in these- I think the 6 month plus jars look like what you would feed to an under 6 month old who you are weaning early

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

No, my baby didn't like them

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

She had a few spoonfuls of the butternut squash

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

Unfortunately since I signed up for the trial my baby decided to spoon refuse and now only eats what we eat with her hands! Also, she is just 8 months and the purees in these jars are too blended and smooth for her- she has been eating lumps etc since 6 months, so she did not want to try these. Bit of a shame but I have passed the unopened ones onto a friend with a younger baby

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes for use at home.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Some flavours

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Squash and chicken.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

The fish one smelled awful and she refused to eat it. The buttered veg was spat out!

The biggest ingredient of a lot of the jars was carrot more variety would be nice.

Slightly concerned about carrying glass jars in the change bag in case they break.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes I would

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes I would, I felt better knowing it was organic and DD really enjoyed them.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? Banana breakfast one, she loved it!
  2. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

There was nothing to dislike about it really, DD loved them, I would advise giving the jar a good story though as some have a bit of a jelly consistency until stirred.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes I would on balance.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Possibly. I bought them for my first buy didn't like that they're mostly all the same colour and carrot based so I stopped. I don't think much has changed now I'm trying them for my second.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Buttered veg.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I liked that they're organic and in recyclable packaging. I dislike they seem to mostly by the same colour.

  1. Unfortunately not.

  1. No I wouldn’t

  1. She wasn’t a fan of any I’m afraid!

  1. I liked that they were organic. I disliked the textures which were really strange, the creamed porridge was simultaneously slimy and thick. I also tried all of the flavours as I like to know what I’m feeding my daughter and none of them were good. They were very bland, no real flavour to them at all. It’s such a shame as they’re a really good price point and the jars are really handy, but they have to taste like food otherwise how will babies become used to real flavours?

Apologies for the negativity, but it’s best to be honest!

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes, if it came up
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? They were a little lacking in texture for DD (8mths) but I would buy the next stage products
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? Buttered vegetables
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? She liked most of the flavours, and I liked that they are organic and easily portable. Dislikes were lack of texture and small portion size didn't fill her up, but these are due to the stage she's at, and I think the jars would have been perfect when we were just starting out.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes I would

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes, although I prefer to feed homemade, they are handy to keep in for times when I need a convenient option!

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

She liked all of them actually. The spaghetti bolognese and creamy porridge were the favourites.
She also seemed to really like the veg and fish pie, which I was surprised about as I've never had much success with fish and it did smell very 'fishy'!

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

Most were a bit smooth for her stage, I think they'd be good for the beginning of weaning though.

Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes, depends on the price though.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Yes if I see them on offer.
  2. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? Banana porridge
  3. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? I liked all the different flavours which combined healthy vegetables in an interesting way. I felt the jars were a bit big for my son at six months, he would only have a third at a time, so there was a lot of waste. I wish there was a way to store the food safely over a day or so.

  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Yes, dependant on competitive pricing

  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

My son (8months) ate and enjoyed all of the jars. I personally would like to buy jars of food that are not all bright orange with a tomato base. It stains everything including his face. Greens would be welcome!

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes, but only for a baby that is just starting out with weaning, as the there is no texture at all in jars. 9 month old was therefore looking for more quantity.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Yes even for my 9 month old i found the jars good for when he was unwell due to the consistency.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? The banana yoghurt although he loved them all.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

Was unsure of the link to organic and some of the ingredients which i did not feel were required in baby food.

Liked the consistency for early weaning. Smile and babt enjoyed taste

1 Yes I would buy these, and would have no problems recommending them to someone starting out with weaning

2 I would when I first start weaning with another child but maybe not now as DDs appetite is growing

3 She seemed to really like the tomato aubergine one, can't remember exactly what it was

4 Wasn't overly keen on the fishy one

Thanks

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes - definitely.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes we would.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

The creamy porridge one.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I thought the jars were a good size and there were a good variety of flavours. Some of the flavours were a little bit too thick for my 7 month old and I found the jars harder to heat up than squeeze pouches.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes. I like the fact they are organic and that they don't taste overly sweet like many baby food jars.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes. Depends on cost though, the survey I filled in had ÂŁXXX rather than an actual price!

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

She liked the banana yogurt and creamy porridge.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

She didn't like most of the savoury options, the Mediterranean veg and aubergine actually made her vomit!

  1. Yes, I would definitely recommend that they give them a go and see if their child likes them.
  2. Yes, as long as the price was competitive with other organic brands.
  3. Banana & Yoghurt
  4. He enjoyed eating all of them but had a definite leaning towards the non-meat ones, liking both the fruit and the tomato based ones. I was quite surprised how much he liked the penne/tomato based one as he usually is not a fan of these. We both appreciated the thickness; even in the porridge and banana, as fruit especially can be quite runny in some brands. I really like the fact that they're organic and I had a lot of confidence that I was giving him good quality ingredients. I personally prefer pouches to jars as I think they're easier to use on the go and less wastage, so the worst thing I can say is that!
