This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters and their babies, who have been testing a range of HiPP Organic baby food jars of both breakfast and savoury dishes.

Here’s what HiPP Organic have to say about their jars: “with our nutritious recipes, including a pure veg range, your child will develop a love for a variety of foods - including savoury and sweet. Offering more vegetables than fruit during weaning helps move your little one away from a natural preference for sweeter tastes, which may help reduce fussy eating later on. That’s why at HiPP Organic, our savoury recipes taste savoury.

“Jars allow babies to see and smell the food they are tasting, which is important for food recognition and acceptance. They’re also perfect for feeding with a spoon, encouraging hand-eye coordination and self-feeding.

“For more than 60 years, generations of babies have been raised on HiPP Organic's delicious and organic food. In fact, the family-run business produces the only organic jar range available in the UK!”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the below questions and completing the survey we’ll email you shortly.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

All testers who complete the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes, particularly for those just starting out on the weaning journey as the products we tried were all smooth purees. We liked the thick textures, flavours and the quality of these products.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

As my son is now 10 months old, I'm keen for him to be eating food with more complex textures so that he can develop his chewing skills. I need to look at the HIPP Organic products to see what is available for this stage of weaning.

I would definitely buy the products again if my little boy was still on smooth purees as I was very pleased with the products and my son enjoyed them too.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Creamy porridge went down very well, and he particularly enjoyed the spaghetti bolognaise.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

We liked:
The flavours
Portion size
Ease of heating up
Being able to see the food
Portability

Didn't like
  • That the jars are glass - I kept the bubble wrap on those that we took out and about as I was concerned they might break. They didn't though.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes I would

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Yes I will definitely be buying them again if I can find them for 8/9 month olds as I would like them a bit lumpier

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? She enjoyed all of them but probably the banana yoghurt one and the buttered vegetables the most

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? She hasn’t tried jars before this but she liked the taste of them all and it was definitely a quick and easy meal, it was especially helpful over Christmas when we were eating at different times to baby or if we were out visiting family etc. I really liked trying dd on different foods that I wouldn’t usually buy/cook. The size was perfect for my baby who is 9 months. I would have liked a bit more texture as they are very very smooth but I suppose if your baby is 6 months old as the jar is aimed for then that’s what you would want anyway

Yes, I would buy them again.

The banana yogurt went down well.

I like the consistency but not the size of the jars - too small.

. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
Yes; it was really handy to try him on different tastes and textures

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes; I prefer to make my own but I can certainly see this as a good alternative when we are out or I’m busy
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Banana yoghurt! He laughed every time the spoon landed in his mouth
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

He liked all of them and I was impressed with the ingredients generally; especially the savoury ones. The jars were a perfect size for my 6 month old but I can see them being too small for older children. The packaging/glass jars struck me as being quite old fashioned compared to the competitors on the market I’m not sure I would have picked them out if I hadn’t been sent them

Yes I would buy the jars again.

My baby liked the spag bol and the squash with chicken.

I liked the convenience of them and the variety. My baby liked most of the jars except the fish pie and the banana breakfast yoghurt.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes. All the jars had a good consistency. They clung to the spoon well without being too lumpy. I sometimes find pouches too watery which is not a problem that I had with these jars. it meant that if I missed the mouth when baby wiggled it was easy to clean up. I also found that the product washed well out of clothes!
2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Yes! I tested the jars on my (at the time) 12 month old as I wanted a product that I could take with me in the bag that I could spoon feed if suitable finger foods weren't available. Funnily enough, my 3.5 year old loved a couple of the jars and there was competition over the puddings.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Buttered vegetables and the two deserts were a total hit!

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I liked that the rims were wide. I held the jars and let my 12 month old scoop the product out herself- it really helped with hand-eye co=ordination and she often ate much better because she was doing it herself.

The bonus was that the jars were organic- makes you feel less like you've cheated by not cooking yourself. I also liked the simple range of ingredients. Good if you are introducing new foods to a little one.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Possibly. My baby didn't like them very much but he's pretty fussy and has struggled with solids (he's 8 months). But a friend's baby tried the bolognaise when she was over and loved it.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

I'll buy the banana yoghurt as a dessert for my son - he ate the whole pot in one go after his regular dinner which is a lot more than he'd usually eat in a whole meal

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

The banana yoghurt by far. He had a bit of the buttered veg and the bolognaise but really hated the porridge, fish pie and aubergine pots.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I really wanted to like them as my son is super-fussy with the food I cook him and I'd love him to have enjoyed them. But he really wasn't impressed - except with the banana breakfast which he loved. I wasn't very impressed with the flavours, they all tasted quite bland and the textures weren't very appealing - the creamy porridge in particular was quite slimey. I did like the glass containers for use at home, and will buy the banana porridge regularly.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes definitely I have used them all and my baby found them easy to eat and I found them great to transport. There’s a really good range of flavours and my baby ate them without hesitation

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes but the more chunkier consistency ones which are more suited to my baby.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Chicken and sweet squash was the preferred

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

When I first received the jars I was surprised as the ones I was sent where a really puréed consistency for 6month plus and for a 9 month old i thought these won’t be suitable as she already eats more chunkier food than this.
But I used them all as my baby had 3 top teeth coming thru and started refusing all food. As soon as I offered her a jar she ate them all without any problem.
I would recommend these particular jars to younger babies but would recommend HiPP jars to all.
I think the yogurt in a jar was a bit strange and I wouldn’t buy this or the porridge as I would prefer use fresh/ make my own porridge.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes definitely, we were fans of Hipp anyway but these were better than expected.
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes, for home consumption. I find baby food in pouches easier for going out and about.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Sweet squash and chicken, he ate the whole jar! And being only 6 months and not always into the whole spoon/food/face thing this was quite unusual for him.
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I liked the portion size, lovely range of flavours and how the vegetable was always the main ingredient with the meat after rather than making the meat the main feature. Really good natural wholesome flavours. All actually smelled quite appealing too, and being my 3rd child we have encountered some really not nice food aromas! I sometimes found the jars a bit faffy one handed, but thats just me being lazy. My little one was very happy to try all the flavours and seemed to enjoy each one, including the textures and amount of food on offer. Thanks :-)

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes, I actually already have as a friend is planning to wean baby on a mix of foods like we did. We did a mix of finger foods and puree.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes but not as a main meal now as my baby is 10 months old so he actually had two jars at a time! He's a big appetite though. I would buy the bigger ones with chunks or breakfast ones as a snack.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Hard to say as he scoffed them all but the buttered veg went down very well.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

My baby loves his food and eats everything so he simply liked them because they're edible! I liked how handy they are when out and about. I did find quite a few of them tasted the same. We weaned baby on a mix of finger foods and mashed/puree foods from the start. He's used to a wide range of flavours and whilst he happily ate these I wouldn't want him eating them to often as felt they're a little bland

Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Possibly.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? The yogurt and porridge ones, yes. The savoury ones, probably not. I usually only buy jars as part of a multi-buy deal.
  2. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? Banana yogurt.
  3. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the

Good consistency, nice flavours. The fish pie one smelt very odd, but this was actually the one that my baby liked best out of the savoury flavours!

  2. Yes to try the next stage
  3. Banana yogurt. Also liked buttered vegetables when I mixed with pasta
  4. Unfortunately my baby isn’t a fan of being spoon fed so we mainly do finger foods and she will take purée direct from a pouch 🙈

I would use these again as a pasta sauce and have also bought some of the HiPP range in pouches

Yes, especially when they are just starting weaning as the jars are convenient for taking out and about with you.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes I would.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

My baby really liked them all as she is not a fussy eater - I have yet to find a food that she doesn't like! But the buttered vegetables went down particularly well and the penne pasta was another hit.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

They were a really good consistency as my daughter likes to feed herself and has a habit of turning the spoon upside down as she does. The food didn't run off the spoon like other brands I have tried. However, she is also quite reluctant to drink water so I did find that they made her poos quite firm sometimes. Not a problem as such but I can imagine that eating these jars constantly could cause a bit of constipation in some babies. I liked that there were a good range of flavours, both vegetarian options and non vegi, as I didn't want to introduce meat to my baby very early on. I also felt more at ease feeding a jar that I knew was organic.

  1. DD ate the full amount of 6/8 jars. The jars are small enough to pop in your bag. The food itself has a lovely consistency - not congealed like other jars we have tried.

  1. Yes I would recommend this product.
  2. Yes I would buy again but preferably in larger sizes for my 11 month old.
  3. My babies favourite was the spaghetti but she liked them all.
  4. Liked that they are convenient to take out and about. My daughter liked the taste. Disliked the size of the jar for her at 11 months it was not enough on its own. Would be better if product was in a plastic jar so that its lighter to carry around and would be great if a little spoon was attached for the times i forget to pack one.
