This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters and their babies, who have been testing a range of HiPP Organic baby food jars of both breakfast and savoury dishes.

Here’s what HiPP Organic have to say about their jars: “with our nutritious recipes, including a pure veg range, your child will develop a love for a variety of foods - including savoury and sweet. Offering more vegetables than fruit during weaning helps move your little one away from a natural preference for sweeter tastes, which may help reduce fussy eating later on. That’s why at HiPP Organic, our savoury recipes taste savoury.

“Jars allow babies to see and smell the food they are tasting, which is important for food recognition and acceptance. They’re also perfect for feeding with a spoon, encouraging hand-eye coordination and self-feeding.

“For more than 60 years, generations of babies have been raised on HiPP Organic's delicious and organic food. In fact, the family-run business produces the only organic jar range available in the UK!”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the below questions and completing the survey we’ll email you shortly.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

All testers who complete the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a ÂŁ300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  1. Absolutely, in fact have told my NCT group about the trial and which ones my son likes.
  2. Have already bought additional jars of the ones he loved.
  3. The Sweet Squash and Chicken was a definite favourite, he wolfed it down which is generally unlike him as he has been very fussy (except for rice pudding 🙄). Closely followed by the buttered vegetables in second place.
  4. He wasn’t keen on the fish one (sorry can’t recall what it was called and haven’t kept the jar) or the banana breakfast but he hasn’t been a fan of any fish or banana meals I’ve given him. I think he enjoyed the added texture in the buttered vegetables as it wasn’t completely puréed but then he absolutely loved the squash and chicken which was.

I got the survey but the question about price doesn't actually show the price, it says XXX for 125g so I had to put my answer down as 'don't know'!

  2. Yes, if they were on special offer
  3. He actually seemed to really enjoy all of them
  4. They can be served at room temperature, so I could just pop a jar in my bag and my baby could have an age appropriate meal whilst out with us

Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
No, my son wasn't impressed with the jars at all and refused to eat the majority of the flavours. It was a shame as my eldest was fed exclusively on HiPP Organic Formula for the first six months of her life, so it's a brand that I've always loved.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

No.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

The banana yoghurt was my son's favourite but he still only managed half the jar.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I was impressed with the consistency and flavours like buttered vegetables, but sadly it didn't seem that my child liked anything about the jars and it was a chore to get most flavours into him.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

She didn’t like the fish pie one and I thought it smelt awful. She also wasn’t keen on the banana porridge and when I tried it thought it was very sharp tasting.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes. They have a wide range of flavours and are quite pleasant tasting considering there is no salt or sugar.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Fish pie - this was a surprise to me, I was not expecting him to as fish can be a strong flavour. He also very much liked the porridge.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I like that there is very little ingredients other than that you would expect, but I wish that some of the ingredients had more percentage in the jars eg. I would expect the largest percentage in the Squash and Chicken jar to be squash or chicken, yet it was carrot.

  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? My DD ate all of the jars without any problems so she obviously liked the flavours. There wasn't really a downside - the jars are ideal for feeding DD when out and about or not had time to cook.

Finally a food my little boy loves his favourite was banana youghart although he couldn't get enough of all the flavours. Would I buy again absolutely we have already changed his food to hip organic permanently. It's great knowing what's in the product and what vitamins and nutrients he is getting. There are no dislikes with this food and the jar sizes were perfect for his age.

Question 1. Yes, I would recommend Hipp Organic jars to friends, acquaintances and colleagues because as a busy working Mum I think they are handy, convenient and look and smell appetising. I wouldn't feed any of my children food that I personally would not eat or drink.

Question 2. Yes, I intend to purchase Hipp Organic again. I already have added to my delivery order. Husband and I were particuarly impressed with the smell and how much she wanted to devour the baby food. Recently, she turned her nose up at competitors' food and I in all honesty don't blame her one bit.

Question 3, Out of the 8 Hipp Organics jars which was baby's favourite. It was the fish pie. This was her first taste of fish and we have since bought more.

Question 4. What did you/ your child like/dislike about the Hipp Organic jars you tired?

I liked that the food is organic. I also could smell fish and meat in the food with other brands I couldn't smell and genuinely wondered if they contained any meat/ fish. (My family farm so I recognise smells with food and some seemed to be purely vegetable based). I liked the quality and the quantity. I'm sold as is my offspring. We look forward to indulging in many more Hipp Organic meals. Thank you for the fantastic opportunity.

The sweeter ones, and buttered vegetables. Though he seemed to enjoy them all!
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

He ate all of them so I don't think he disliked anything. I liked the ingredients seemed to be good nutritionally, and organic. The meals weren't too thin, maybe could have had more texture. They were a good portion size for my 7 month old

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Banana Yoghurt and Veges with Aubergine
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I thought the colour and consistency was all a bit samey and flavours not as tasty as Ella’s kitchen. Baby ate them but maybe not with as much gusto.
Would still buy some of my baby’s preferred jars to mix in with other brands.

  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? He definitely didnt like the mediterranean vegs with aubergine!! I usually puree his food with a slightly courser texture which I think he prefers. Would definitely use them for convenience if out and about. Unfortunately he has had a bad cough at the same time as we were trying some of them and I think it was the cough that resulted in us seeing them again not the taste!!

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

In the very early stages of weaning I probably would as they are easy to just grab and go.
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

No, I don’t think I would.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

She didn’t really like any of them, I suppose she ate the most of the banana breakfast one.
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I liked the portion size and how they were easy to grab and go. My baby however didn’t really seem to like them, I think it was because of consistency as she would spend most of the time spitting it out. I did try some out on toast and she seemed to like the flavours.

Yes absolutely

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes, I try and cook/give him some of what we have but sometimes it's easier to have stuff in the cupboard for easy/quick food.

I liked the variety, things we hadn't tried before, he ate and seemed to enjoy all of them.
Will definitely keep a couple in.
