This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters and their babies, who have been testing a range of HiPP Organic baby food jars of both breakfast and savoury dishes.

Here’s what HiPP Organic have to say about their jars: “with our nutritious recipes, including a pure veg range, your child will develop a love for a variety of foods - including savoury and sweet. Offering more vegetables than fruit during weaning helps move your little one away from a natural preference for sweeter tastes, which may help reduce fussy eating later on. That’s why at HiPP Organic, our savoury recipes taste savoury.

“Jars allow babies to see and smell the food they are tasting, which is important for food recognition and acceptance. They’re also perfect for feeding with a spoon, encouraging hand-eye coordination and self-feeding.

“For more than 60 years, generations of babies have been raised on HiPP Organic's delicious and organic food. In fact, the family-run business produces the only organic jar range available in the UK!”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the below questions and completing the survey we’ll email you shortly.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

All testers who complete the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a ÂŁ300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  2. Yes I would buy HiPP again. My 6 month old loved them all.
  3. Favourite was the Banana Yoghurt
  4. Liked the range, but older babies need bigger jars, too small for hungry ones.

IHATEPeppaPig · 04/01/2018 22:05
  1. Yes absolutely I would.
  2. Yes, in fact I already have.
  3. DC loved the spaghetti bolognese and the banana breakfast.
  4. DC absolutely devoured all of them - I liked them as they were so easy and tasty compared to other products tried previously. My toddler loves the toddler meals and I will be progressing with HIPP Organic through the stages.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes I would. I still prefer pouches but for value for money, wholesomeness and taste they're a brilliant alternative.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes. My son is 10 months now so I'd buy the larger jars, but I'd definitely get these again for home use. If they were recyclable plastic I'd buy more.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

He liked the buttered vegetables the most.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

My son didn't enjoy the breakfast porridge but he's ten months and prefers a bit more flavour at this stage. Overall we were really impressed and would definitely buy again for use at home.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
Yes, as the ingredients are transparent and the meals varied.
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Some of them, yes.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
She really enjoyed the pasta and the breakfast jars.
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
I liked the variety of flavours and the texture. The jars were about The right size for my 8 month old. I disliked that most of them were very orange and stained everything. All natural flavours and colours but mildly annoying.
Padfoot1 · 05/01/2018 11:33
  1. Yes I thought the range of flavours I had been sent were very good.
  2. I would buy the breakfast jars and would also buy the others as a sauce but I found they were not filling enough for my 8 month old as a standalone meal.
  3. The banana porridge was my baby's favourite, although he did like all of the flavours.
  4. The range of flavours were good and they were tasty. I found the tops of the jars tricky to put back on. It would be good if some of the jars were not so puréed - some 'lumpy' food would have been a more substantial meal.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
Yes i would because my child loves it
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Yes i would.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
Creamy Porridge was the best
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
My child absolutely loves HiPP Organic jars and there is nothing that my child disliked.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes absolutely

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

I would, have never bought them before for either child

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Sweet squash & chicken
Spaghetti bol
Loved veg & fish pie

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

Didn't like aubergine with mediterranean vegetables or buttered vegetables.
I liked the consistency of the jars. I was using a different well known brand before trying these and won't be going back to them. These seem fresher and she definitely enjoyed the majority of them, particularly the fish pie one which I wouldn't normally have considered at this age. Very good all round and I will be looking at HiPP products in future.

NewMama12 · 05/01/2018 19:54
  1. Yes
  2. Yes
  3. She loved the tomato pasta and the bolognese - it was her first taste of meat and she wolfed it down!
  4. The consistency of the purees was great - really smooth, apart from the Mediterranean veg which she did struggle with. She didn’t like the breakfast ones at all, but I’m struggling to find a baby cereal that she will eat. As some of the other posters have said, the orange coloured jars left her looking like a little oopma loompa even after a bath! But overall I thought they were great and would buy again.
lotusisaddictive · 05/01/2018 20:34

1: Maybe for the first week of weaning because they are all very smooth.

2: No because there aren't enough textures

3: The sweet one that wasn't porridge went down the best

4: The porridge one had an awful gluey texture that even the sweet taste couldn't make up for. It was hard to get it on the spoon.

diaryofdylan · 05/01/2018 22:29
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
I would to those who are just beginning their weaning journey. The jar size was a little bit small for my 9 month old and did not have different textures.
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
I would but it would not be my first choice as I prefer the pouches.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
My son loved the banana breakfast.
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
I liked that you could see the contents of the jar. My son seemed to enjoy the majority of the jars apart from the porridge as I think he’s used to fruit in his porridge. He also wasn’t a fan of the fish but he doesn’t like anything to do with fish. The price is also really good for what you get. I have to say I do prefer the pouches though as they are easier to take out and about. Also find the pouches more hygienic and easier if not using all of the contents in one go. Overall, would buy again but would not be my first choice.
RebeccaCloud9 · 06/01/2018 08:48

1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
Yes I would.

2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Yes as they have several pure veg options unlike many ranges. They are affordable too.

3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
The Mediterranean veg with aubergine.

4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
I like the choice of veg options - lots of other ranges contain fruit in all their veg recipes. I would prefer a plastic jar (I smashed one and it went everywhere!). I also didnt like the sour taste of the yogurt but my ds was ok with it.
My ds is also starting to need more food than in the jars but I just added to them for some of his meals e.g. added rice to a veg jar or gave him a sandwich as well. I think they are a convenient way of adding veg/vitamins/minerals/tastes to a meal rather than being his entire serving now (he's 9 months and a good eater).

1)Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? If they were not going to do now then yes.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
No
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? Banana yoghurt
  2. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

Too bland and no texture for him

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
yes definitely
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
yes, already have been!
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
they enjoyed all of them but the breakfast one probably the best- great varieties!
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
great variety and liked the colour coding- blue for fish, red for meat and green for veg etc as I have twins could’ve done with larger jars, instead just fed them two at a time’
FionaJade · 06/01/2018 17:22
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
Yes I would
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Yes I have already bought some more in a higher age.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
My little boy loved both the breakfast jars and seamed to really enjoy the spag bol jar
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
I liked that they were quite thick so did not just run off the spoon, my little boy did not like the chicken and butternut squash at sll and I found it quite an overwhelming flavour. More variety of flavours would be good too as a lot of them tasted similar so would not be good for giving a range of tastes to a weaning baby
kittensmum82 · 06/01/2018 21:44
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
Yes I would, something I've warned others about is the high additions of fruit to other brands 'savoury' recipes so savoury means savoury is a great brand promise.
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Yes I would, I just wish they were in different packaging. I appreciate them being in jars is a differentiator, I just find them heavier and am more nervous of carrying them around. Having a baby with a smaller appetite there is also the factor that once that are opened and have had the spoon going in and out that for hygiene reasons I don't feel able to use the rest of the jar the next day which isn't an issue with pouch food.
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
The buttered vegetables
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

See above

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes I would my little one loved them
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Yes I would
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
Penne pasta and banana breakfast
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? He liked all of them and devoured them in seconds flat
DavidGandyfanclubpresident · 07/01/2018 12:02
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? I would if they had a baby that would eat jarred food as it appears mine won't unfortunately!
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? I won't now as my dd2 just doesn't like savoury jarred food - I didn't realise this before we tried them
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? She only liked the banana yoghurt and porridge, though she gave the roasted veg a decent shot too (I actually ended up mixing that one with pasta for my 4yr old)
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? I really liked them, I was really hopeful that we (7mo) would like them too but she wasn't keen on any of the savoury jars. I thought they all had decent flavour and I liked the consistency. I've got 3 jars left and rather than waste them on dd I'm going to give them to my friends dd who I know will like them.
Givealittlebit · 07/01/2018 19:03
  1. Would you recommend HiPP organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes, it people wanted to go go down the spoon feed/purée route then I would. They are easy and convenient.

  1. Would you buy HiPP organic jars again?

I probably wouldn't, as my baby is a big eater and we moved into BLW pretty quickly! However I might consider buying a few to have for quick feeds when out and about etc.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP organic jars, which one was your baby's favourite?

He loved the penne pasta one and the banana yogurt flavour!

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP organic jars you tried?

They are so easy and convenient, very handy for being able to give a quick feed. However they are quite small jars for a big eater so need to be given alongside something else!

Percox · 07/01/2018 21:45

1.Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
Yes, definitely.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
Yes, handy to have around and also easier to recycle
  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
Banana yoghurt but she liked all of them. The fish pie did smell but again she ate it all. I think the least favourite was the porridge as it was a bit bland. I did try them all myself :-) which I do with all her baby food. Figure I will not feed her anything I would not eat myself! LOL!
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?
It is a good brand, organic, recyclable, good variety, good value for money
bababia · 08/01/2018 10:17
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? About to wean - yes. Already weaned - no.
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? No, my baby wasn't too keen on them
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? The breakfast/yogurt one
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? I think he didn't the flavour or lack thereof. He's 10 months and I think he's now used to more flavourful food.
Thishatisnotmine · 08/01/2018 11:40
  1. I would recommend to anyone who is starting weaning.
  1. Yes. Already have purchased a couple of jars. The point made about glass recycling by a previous poster is also a selling point.
  1. She did not like the yoghurt or porridge but ate all the other flavours. Especially loved the meditaranean veg. I used this as the tomato base for a little pizza enjoyed by my three year old too!
  1. My daughter was eight months when we had these to try (8.5 now) and unlike my first child she has not taken to finger food so we have been pureeing/mashing a lot this time. I thought the texture was great as I used a lot of each jar for topping toast fingers or mixing with a meal we are eating - last night she had the penne and veg with some of our pasta chopped up. The jars with a high carrot content do stain but this happens with all readymade baby food and I do try to avoid buying anything carrot heavy. I especially liked that there was no fruit in the savoury meals.
Twomonkeysandcounting · 08/01/2018 13:39
  1. Yes I would recommend these to those starting to wean/ for those babies that don't have a bigger appetite.
  2. Yes I would. Good range of flavours and convenient when our of the house especially.
  3. Banana yoghurt was definitely her favourite. Loved it! She liked most of them apart from the fish pie one.
4.I liked the different flavours and the ingredients. Easy to use but I prefer pouches generally. I didn't like the colour of some of them.
ibuiltahomeforyou · 08/01/2018 15:30
  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
I would as a first good, yes.
  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? I'd buy the banana yoghurt one for my daughter.
  2. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
The banana yoghurt one
  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? She didn't seem to like the texture of the porridge, she kept smacking her lips together Smile and when I tasted it, it was a bit gluey. She also didn't like the bolognese one which is odd as she has had bolognese before and liked it. She's nine months so it might be more suitable for a younger baby. She loved the buttered vegetable one. We used them a lot over Christmas as they were so handy to take to people's houses or to a restaurant - I found it really convenient. She doesn't like any of the Ella's Kitchen type pouches, I think the texture disagrees with her. I was surprised she ate these with such gusto to be honest! I liked the fact they seemed to have a nice range of flavours and weren't all apple based. A chunkier mix would be better for a baby like her (who usually does blw) but it was really convenient to have something quick to give her.
