We have a very exciting product test for you...We've been asked by Samsung to find 30 Mumsnetters to try out their new G-Series American-style fridge freezer (average selling price £1,800) in their home and give feedback on Talk. Everyone who is selected to take part and adds their feedback will get to keep the fridge freezer forever!

This is what Samsung says about the product: "With the new G-Series three door American-style fridge freezer, you will get lots more storage space thanks to thin wall insulation technology. You also get the benefit of some really clever features, all designed to make your life easier. A plumbed dispenser gives you chilled and filtered ice and water on tap, foldable shelves mean you can fit all your food and drink in irrespective of their size, shape, width or breadth, and FreshSafe Vegetable drawers give you the best humidity levels to preserve vitamins and nutrients in any fruits and vegetables you?re storing. Even better is the CoolSelect Pantry which acts as a mini fridge within a fridge. It?s an independently controlled drawer which can be set to three different temperatures, so you can be sure you are storing your food at the right temperature."

There are a number of criteria for taking part in this project - to take part you must:

  • Live in mainland UK
  • Be willing to provide two lots of feedback (once when the fridge freezer has just been delivered and again after a couple of months) which will appear on MN and may be used for marketing by Samsung (they will link to the feedback thread from their website - you can namechange for the feedback if you like)
  • Be available at home for one weekday in the next 2-3 weeks (date to be arranged with Samsung) for delivery
  • Have space, electricity and a cold water supply (for ice and water dispenser) for a fridge freezer this size in your kitchen (or wherever it would live) - click here for more information on dimensions etc

If you are selected to take part, the fridge freezer will be delivered free of charge but Samsung aren't able to remove any old appliances so you would need to arrange for any existing fridge freezer occupying the space to be removed yourself.

You will get to keep the new fridge freezer once the product test is finished - so long as you add at least 2 lots of feedback on Mumsnet. Feedback will focus on overall impressions of the fridge freezer, the flexibility of the storage space inside it, any features you particularly like etc.

If you are interested in taking part please sign up here.

Thanks

Ah, got it now! Think I prefer the cubes anyway tbh. Although they're more 'ovals' than 'cubes' Smile

WhipMeIndiana · 30/07/2011 20:51

theyre little ellipses

HattiFattner · 01/08/2011 13:31

mines here and plumbed in Grin - cant use it for a while though. Sad

First impressions seem to be that although its a similar size to my last one, it does seem to have more space - possibly just a more sensible configuration/design. Tis very swish and the boys cant wait to take the ice cube maker for a spin. We have ooo'd and aaaah'd about the funky doors and I am a happy bunny. Thanks Samsung!

swampster · 01/08/2011 15:29

Mine's here! It is very shiny and rather gorgeous. I like it lots and lots. I don't, however, love it. The handles are a bit too like in-your-face inelegant sausages. And only the front is shiny, the sides are a yucky grey. Thank goodness they are magnetic though.

I used to have a retro red Bosch before I had three kids and I think it is the only fridge I will ever truly love. Not great for a large family though which this Samsung beast is. It is lovely and spacious.

The DSs love the lights and are VERY excited about the prospect of ice on tap. I find the lights ever so slightly daunting.

I don't quite get the pizza pocket thing and I can't figure out where my eggs are supposed to live. The product spec says there is an egg container and a wine rack but I can't find them. And it looks like I'm going to have to start drinking my beer out of a can instead of a bottle...

bucksmum · 01/08/2011 16:01

Well the beauty arrived this morning and looks lovely - unfortunately the installers were in a major rush and haven't put the doors on properly so it's beeping constantly, the disco lights don't work, and I've got no water or ice dispenser! But have been assured by the depot they will sort it out! Sad

bucksmum · 01/08/2011 16:42

..

swampster · 01/08/2011 16:48

Bet you're gutted, bucksmum. I'm finding it hard to wait for the ice cubes to start tumbling out.

LaVitaBellissima · 01/08/2011 17:51

Is anyone else having problems with the top freezer shelf?

Mine gets stuck all the time. Not sure if it's design or when the guys fitted it back together as they had to take the doors off Confused

TheRealMBJ · 01/08/2011 18:43

What do you mean by getting stuck?

Mine is fine, I think, but it doesn't pull out all the way, if that is what you meant.

DirtyMartini · 01/08/2011 20:24

Ooh ooh ooh

We turned the fridge on today and moved all our food across. It is AMAZING having room for everything, being able to put stuff like bread in the fridge and still have space. It honestly is hilarious comparing the size of our old fridge to this one. Old one is like a postage stamp and (I now realize) wasn't even really keeping things cold properly.

My cashmere jumper and DP's kilt are now in the freezer too, away from moths :)

Fridge is still standing in the middle of the kitchen in everyone's way, but the joiner/plumber comes tomorrow to bash a hole in a panel and plumb it in, and move other stuff around a bit to clear the designated space. I cannot wait to have it standing against the wall in its spot!

Haven't really explored all the pockets and shelves properly yet -- tomorrow the dc will be at nursery for the first time since it arrived, and I will take the time to become properly acquainted. Mystified and intrigued by the conflicting reports on pizza pocket, wine rack, egg holder etc. And we have a box of blackcurrant and apple Fabs in the freezer - I must transfer them to the lolly sleeve Grin

WhipMeIndiana · 01/08/2011 20:56

Grin at bread in the fridge hahaha and clothes in the freezer. where the heckersley is the feedback thread, all these gems will need transferring across

bucksmum · 02/08/2011 07:05

Well the fitters have come back at 630 this morning Smile but can't find the problem Sad so looks like a faulty appliance so will have to get another one delivered Sad

DirtyMartini · 02/08/2011 09:17

Oh no bucksmum! How maddening for you.

Our guy is here now, moving appliances and politely ignoring mouse droppings behind the tumble dryer. I am leaving him to it ... I normally work at the kitchen table but he's buzzing all around there. I'm therefore regarding this as a good excuse to take the morning off and sit on the sofa with the laptop, half-watching Heir Hunters.

NewGirlHelenMumsnet · 02/08/2011 11:37

Hi all - the feedback thread is now live here so please head over there to add your comments on your initial impressions of your new fridge freezer. Thank you!

Helen - do you have any details for Samsung the call centre knew nothing about mumsnet (where have been hiding!) so I can't seem to get any help in getting my fridge fixed. Thanks

Kato1 · 19/01/2012 21:58

We bought a samsung American style fridge freezer, turns out it didn't actually keep food cold. My baby got food poisoning several times from (un!) refridgerated breast milk. & I couldn't figure out why until we finally bought a fridge thermometer & discovered the fridge temp was actually 12 degrees. Awesome. Thanks samsung for trying to kill my newborn. I wrote letters, spoke to managers etc. They didn't give a c**p. Incidentally they knew this was happening with this fridge but decided corporate greed was much more important. Evil see you next Tuesdays. I'm a step away from being a nutter with placards outside samsungs offices.
