We have a very exciting product test for you...We've been asked by Samsung to find 30 Mumsnetters to try out their new G-Series American-style fridge freezer (average selling price £1,800) in their home and give feedback on Talk. Everyone who is selected to take part and adds their feedback will get to keep the fridge freezer forever!

This is what Samsung says about the product: "With the new G-Series three door American-style fridge freezer, you will get lots more storage space thanks to thin wall insulation technology. You also get the benefit of some really clever features, all designed to make your life easier. A plumbed dispenser gives you chilled and filtered ice and water on tap, foldable shelves mean you can fit all your food and drink in irrespective of their size, shape, width or breadth, and FreshSafe Vegetable drawers give you the best humidity levels to preserve vitamins and nutrients in any fruits and vegetables you?re storing. Even better is the CoolSelect Pantry which acts as a mini fridge within a fridge. It?s an independently controlled drawer which can be set to three different temperatures, so you can be sure you are storing your food at the right temperature."

There are a number of criteria for taking part in this project - to take part you must:

  • Live in mainland UK
  • Be willing to provide two lots of feedback (once when the fridge freezer has just been delivered and again after a couple of months) which will appear on MN and may be used for marketing by Samsung (they will link to the feedback thread from their website - you can namechange for the feedback if you like)
  • Be available at home for one weekday in the next 2-3 weeks (date to be arranged with Samsung) for delivery
  • Have space, electricity and a cold water supply (for ice and water dispenser) for a fridge freezer this size in your kitchen (or wherever it would live) - click here for more information on dimensions etc

If you are selected to take part, the fridge freezer will be delivered free of charge but Samsung aren't able to remove any old appliances so you would need to arrange for any existing fridge freezer occupying the space to be removed yourself.

You will get to keep the new fridge freezer once the product test is finished - so long as you add at least 2 lots of feedback on Mumsnet. Feedback will focus on overall impressions of the fridge freezer, the flexibility of the storage space inside it, any features you particularly like etc.

If you are interested in taking part please sign up here.

Thanks

Nope, no wine rack here either, would be a brilliant addition though!

TheRealMBJ · 25/07/2011 21:38

I must say, I hadn't noticed the ice lolly pocket. Where is it?

Ponders · 25/07/2011 21:42

Following WhipMe's virtual tour I just clicked on the link in Helen's OP to look at the shiny pictures (the left-hand/right-hand bits threw me); & now I've read her OP properly I see that the RRP is £1800

well done, you lot Grin

WhipMeIndiana · 25/07/2011 21:42

Open freezer drawer, in bottom main bit, along inside of doorway, small ice lolly size pocket runs length of the drawer

WhipMeIndiana · 25/07/2011 21:43

mygirllollipop · 26/07/2011 09:59

many family members came to view mine today lots of oohs and ahhs and a bit of sheer terror waiting for ice Grin

madrush · 26/07/2011 22:32

Ours is in too. It's huge - inside and out. It feels so new and unlike a fridge - it's the lights and ice dispenser and smart looks. My poor old fridge looks very sad and dated in comparison! Hope sun shines tomorrow so we can use ice all day. What rate of ice usage can it cope with, I wonder? Who's going to run it out first?

madrush · 26/07/2011 22:36

Oh wmi your ff has had visitors. Dh and I have been only admirers here so far since plumbing in. Do you think supermarket deliverer will want to have a ff tour tomorrow or will she/he think I'm weird?

Macaroona · 27/07/2011 14:11

Wahey! Thought I'd been forgotten about due to phone playing up and lack of voicemail, but email from MNHQ says they've been trying to contact me!

Can't wait, am reading your reviews so far with growing excitement. Thank you MN - I never win anything, what an amazing prize product test!

Macaroona · 27/07/2011 14:13

nojustificationneeded - you're welcome to my old one if you want it? It's only 3 years old and works fine, although just a cheapo brand. You'd have to collect - am in SE - PM me if you're interested Smile

leelo · 27/07/2011 15:28

just switched on our new fridge and it is lovely. wasn't able to connect to water supply as need a y shape doo-dah but as i'm in scotland this was the first delivery these guys have done and were very helpful. they thought it was fancier than the other ones they've delivered.

DurhamDurham · 28/07/2011 09:37

Ours came at 7.30 this morning and it's just beautiful!! We were going to leave our old chest freezer in the utility room beside it but it looks rather pathetic so is being removed to the garage as I type!

I thougt we had the correct water connector but we don't so going to get one this morning. Hopefully it'll be something we can do ourselves as the delivery men talked us through it.

Would like to say a huge thanks to Mumsnet and Samsung, you have made a County Durham family very happy indeed!! Smile Smile

MadameBoo · 28/07/2011 11:21

My plumber mate came round yesterday - he didn't plumb it in as I was looking after 3 children in addition to my own and it was hectic. However he's charging me £50 including labour to get it done so I'm chuffed to bits, we will have ice before the summer ends!

Macaroona · 28/07/2011 11:29

Durham - what exactly do I need to have in place for the guys to be able to install it?

Is it a pipe splitter thing under the sink (a 'Y' pipe'?) and also the adapter on it so it fits the fridge pipe?

Confused
Macaroona · 28/07/2011 11:31

A plumber will charge me £100ish to sort it, but I have a feeling it's just not that complicated. DH is making this face though Hmm

TheRealMBJ · 28/07/2011 11:48

Macaroona DH did ours. We didn't need a y-connecter, but a self-cutting valve. I think that if you need a y-connector it is even easier. There should be some bits that the delivery men left, that connects the pipe from the fridge onto your y-connector.

You slip the small booty thingy over the end of the pipe and then screw the correct sized connector not the bolt. That should then easily screw onto your y-connector.

Have you already got a washing machine/dishwasher connected to a valve on the cold water supply?

Macaroona · 28/07/2011 12:07

Thanks MBJ - it's not here yet - F-Day is next Weds.

I was hoping to have everything all set and ready for them so they can install F, but I have no idea whether we need a Y thingy or a self-cutting thingy! Someone upthread said the self-cutting things are a bit risky so hopefully it's not that. I guess F dudes will tell us what we need to do/get.

I'm going to get DH to retrain as a plumber though - £75 an hour just to attend the scene?! I don't think so!

Macaroona · 28/07/2011 12:08

Yes we have a washing machine already connected up if that makes a difference to what thingy we need?

TheRealMBJ · 28/07/2011 12:13

Then you need a y-connector. Easy-peasy.

Get the y-connector. The delivery guys should be able to ake it from there. If not. You just switch the water off at the mains. Unscrew the washing machine. Screw on the y-connector. Screw the washing machine adaptor and fridge adaptor on. Viola!

RockinSockBunnies · 28/07/2011 12:18

We had to have a plumber do ours which was £130. DP not particularly thrilled at the cost. However, he does adore 'Frigita' and appreciates her beauty and icy water. Wish he could do DIY though.....
