Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news...

Anybody care to join?

I realised that it was the everyday stuff I missed most during lockdown. I really miss things being normal and dull and unexciting. Everyone in RL just talks covid covid covid all the bloody time. If it isn't covid it's recessions and A levels.

I bought a new flask. It's a 500ml Thermocafe and I love it. I take it into work and out into the garden.

I am also learning to do something called a "halo braid" in my hair. I am so bad at braiding it's unbelievable.

The cat hid a dead shrew in DH's slipper this morning.

I invite you all to top this parade of mediocrity.

Been eagerly awaiting the post as waiting for my new debit card. The postie came. But only delivered a catalogue for Go Outdoors.

MonicaGellerBing · 25/08/2020 12:23

My new shark hoover was meant to be delivered yesterday but is still at the warehouse according the the tracking. Not happy

whatsoccuringnow · 25/08/2020 12:24

I've just mopped the floor with a new cleaner and it smells lovely.
I'm waiting on a man to come and look at a tree outside my house that needs cutting down and give me a quote for that, I hope its affordable.
I have leftover avacado salad waiting for lunch, I might add some ham to it.

Sunbird24 · 25/08/2020 12:27

I’ve discovered that almond milk is quite nice in coffee but not at all nice in tea

Spudlet · 25/08/2020 12:28

I have Greek toes. Who knew?!

EggyPegg · 25/08/2020 12:55

@Beebopbad

Think I've found a few contenders for places. Need to spend the next 20 years convincing DH now (most recent protest was no decent full English in cafes, despite him never eating that in this country, ever).

Yesterday I taught DS2 (7) how to play Black Jack (not 21s, similar to Uno) and today we taught DS1 (9). This morning we've been playing Black Jack and Rummy and I taught them Go Fish. They're now on their tablets, I'm enjoying the peace and plan to drink tea and read my book. None of us are dressed. Slovenly family that we are.

EggyPegg · 25/08/2020 12:56

Oh and Firefox updated overnight and I'm undecided about how I feel about my new look browser.

EggyPegg · 25/08/2020 13:00

@MutteringDarkly

I remembered to nudge the company supposed to be supplying me with a new front door, that it's so far been 2 weeks since they had my deposit and still not a whisper of a surveyor visit. So I'm no further forward but it feels like I am.

I managed to engage DD in some maths by involving smarties.

Ugh. We had someone come round and measure ours 6 weeks ago. We paid a hefty deposit and we're told '6 weeks until installation'. I rang them at the end of last week as we'd heard nothing and they were immediately apologetic, told us that they knew that their commutation with customers needed much improvement and gave us a provisional date of September 14th. I hadn't said anything other than a polite 'I'm just looking for an update please'. I'm guessing that they had had a strip torn off them prior to my call.
Rainbowshine · 25/08/2020 13:05

The most exciting thing that’s happened here in the last month is that I booked the car in for a service.

FunnysInLaJardin · 25/08/2020 13:08

Hello you certainly can. We have ordered shutters for 2 large sash windows and a smaller window and the total cost was just under £1,000. They are painted hard wood

FunnysInLaJardin · 25/08/2020 13:15

DH is outside mending the fence.

We will probably go into town later to buy the boys school shoes and some small Tupperware pots so that I can make pesto

DidgeDoolittle · 25/08/2020 13:19

We had a new back gate yesterday

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 25/08/2020 13:40

My DD has been up for nearly 2 hrs and we've not had an argument. Yet.

forgetthehousework · 25/08/2020 13:43

The weather can't make up its mind and neither can I, so I'm watching Kitten Academy on YouTube.

We got a free sample of some baby lotion in the post this morning.

Borka · 25/08/2020 13:44

The glazier who came to fix the window the gardener broke managed to break the replacement window before he installed it.

Impressive!
Ninkanink · 25/08/2020 14:00

DH is priming the kitchen door. He will start the whole process again from paint removal stage on the dining room door next. I am doing the easy bit - looking at replacement bakelite handles as we’re only reusing some of them.

We just had leftover takeaway pizza for lunch.

alangarneristerrifying · 25/08/2020 14:04

I vacuumed up a sock. It made a creepy slurpy noise, and was very dirty when I rescued it.

Commiserations. A little ditty from fellow sufferers:
hedgehogger1 · 25/08/2020 14:10

I was happy debobbling clothes with my electric clothes razor thing. Can't find it's charger cable now!

DopamineHits · 25/08/2020 14:22

I bought a couple of tiny water bottles from ebay. They say they're BPA free but they were 75p each so I suspect not.

Ninkanink · 25/08/2020 14:25

Invitation to further dull and uninteresting conversation:

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good quality but not too expensive thermal flask of a size that is conducive to carrying in a rucksack, with at least two of those cups that attach? We want to be able to carry hot drinks with us when we go out for walks and hikes.

TIA!

I love the idea of tiny water bottles...How tiny are they?
Valambtine · 25/08/2020 14:28

I need to go to the post office but I am worried they won't have a big enough envelope for the parcel I need to send, so I am procrastinating.

I bought two bars of handmade dragon fruit soap in Tesco last night. Reduced to clear, only 60p each. Jolly pleased with them.

NoraEphronsneck · 25/08/2020 14:32

I ironed DC's school uniform today ready for next week. This is a revelation to me as I usually iron them on the morning they are needed Grin
