I’m leaving my job and my replacement was hired, so I’m handing over.

Today he’s been reviewing my work over the last few months to get familiar with the accounts and when I asked how he was getting on, his reply was ‘it’s all quite good actually! I’m really surprised!’ Hmm

Later in the day, he commented that ‘you’re actually quite good at your job aren’t you?’

Then ‘well done, this looks like you planned it this way’

He also proceeded to explain my job to me in great detail. Over. And over. And over again. All the while, asking very very basic questions and eventually I said ‘yep, that’s very standard, have you not seen that before?’ To call him out on it and he replied ‘yeah I have, I just wanted to see if you knew why it’s done that way’

I DID FUCKING PLAN IT THAT WAY, IM VERY GOOD AT MY JOB AND YOU ARE REPLACING ME BECAUSE IM MOVING TO A MUCH, MUCH MORE SENIOR ROLE YOU INTOLLERABLE, MANSPLAINING SHART GOBLIN Angry

Somebody PLEASE lend me their willpower because I’m one ‘well done’ away from stapling a gold star to his fucking forehead.

I need to bite my tongue so I can leave and get to my new job but I’m really bloody struggling Sad

What a nasty piece of work he turned out to be.
I bet there is a big history to him and his world of work.

I'd circulate his name and this story throughout the industry, OP. Not as spiteful revenge but because the idea that he may yet be hired by a decent person or company is too much to bear.

And his surprising competence contrasts with the surprising incompetence of the senior and (according to the OP) 'good' HR guy, who was brought in to assist with firing someone in unusual circumstances, yet forgot to remove their IT access - usually the first thing you do. Not to mention the fact that the shart goblin, despite being fired, apparently had off-site online access to client accounts via a personal device (as he must have had to hand any company hardware back). That's a major breach of proper information and financial governance - am amazed the OP isn't hearing more about that aspect.

Good thing the OP's leaving, really - the company's practices sound questionable in the extreme.

Not really. We find that IT always take their time and aren’t particularly helpful and I work for a very large and professional company. Seems to be a common thing with IT.

If IT are unhelpful and slow it is because management are not hauling them over the coals for fucking up.

At the very least, the one thing they should act on is bloody access to systems.

If you work for a company with access to client accounts and you don't prevent staff from accessing those accounts from personal devices, off-site and after being sacked, it's not a question of your IT department being slow - it's a much, much bigger deal than that. You are in breach of the law: not just because the employee has been sacked - they should never have had access from unencrypted personal devices in the first place. Really surprised this hasn't been a bigger issue at the OP"s company.

It doesn't sound as though what SG did was technically difficult; he added budget to client accounts. I'm presuming that's a fairly straightforward use of systems. I don't think it proves that he's especially smart, unless there was some system hacking.

Agree about the terrible processes that made this clusterfuck possible, though.

IT probably have an SLA giving response and fix times
So the SLA for leavers - and leavers under a cloud - needs shortening in timescale, and given a higher priority

It is a huge breach IMO. We’ve recently moved to a cloud based solution so if you have access to the website it’s hosted from and your login still works, you can use the VPN to join the work network from anywhere and login. It was set up to help people work from home/ do flexi.

IT are supposed to remove access to the VPN immediately (it’s a button click), then the full account backup and deletion hooens within 24 hours. They didn’t remove access to the VPN when they were informed and this SG had access.

I’ll repeat again, my industry isn’t accounting/ banking related, nothing has been illegal (except maybe SG’s behaviour, that remains to be seen)

So IT got the request, they acknowledged it, and then still didn't do it.

Your effort getting refunds will have saved their arses for the time being.
