Period after miscarriage

Hello, I had surgical management mid July and I'm losing the will to live waiting for my period.

I know that it can often take around 6 weeks to return but I have had very strong period cramps for the past 2 weeks and no sign of AF.

Have also had a few follow up scans which showed no issues.

My OPK results have also been wild- had a peak on 11/08 and then another almost peak on 20/08. Today they are fairly dark again. We haven't tried this month so not sure why I've done the ovulation tests, just for fun I suppose.

Does anybody have any experience similar to this??

I completely agree with you @amyh2012, I personally didn’t realise the long and emotionally draining process until I experienced it.

Hi @Sdoubleyou, I’m so sorry for your loss 😔
It’s such a awful thing to go through.
The waiting around is a real struggle, I’ve heard it can take a while for the periods to regulate - although fingers crossed we all conceive quickly this cycle. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

@HP123 hope your doing ok, the Dr told me that your period arriving is usually your bodies way of telling you it’s ready again- I found that quite comforting 💕
I’m still pretty heavy at the moment and cramping. My usual period only lasts around three days but I’m on day 5 without any sign of it slowing but emotionally I feel better for it - like a release- sounds weird I know 🙈 but I longer feel like a emotional weirdo about to explode and burst in to tears at any moment 😂🎉

Hope you guys are doing ok ☺️

Sdoubleyou · 09/09/2021 12:45

Seriously long! I had a follow-up with my OB-GYN (I'm in Canada) and then phoned recently. She's not at all worried. She said it seems like my body is trying to go back to normal and that some people get a light period instead of the terribly heavy one that seems to be the norm. We TTC-ed this cycle, but not holding my breath on that one. Haven't wished for my period this badly since I was pre-pubescent! Grin Hope you're all doing well! One day after another, one foot in front of the other.

Newgirl21 · 14/09/2021 20:44

Heeeeeey
How’s everyone getting on? Hope your all well x

amyh2012 · 14/09/2021 20:52

Hey @Newgirl21 not bad! How are you?
Thanks for asking!

AF lasted normal 4 days and have been doing BBT & OPK since I came off. Had some spotting 2 days after I came off which isn't usual but put it down to the MC.

Hoping to ovulate soon and then it's time!🤞🏼

How are you getting on? I'm on CD9 today

Newgirl21 · 14/09/2021 21:18

Hi @amyh2012, I’m glad your doing well ☺️
I’m ok thanks, still on a period though- day 11 with no signs of it ending 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈 ironic eh, I’ve been willing it to come and now it won’t go 🤦🏻‍♀️😂😂
That’s great ☺️ Happy Tracking @amyh2012 🤞🏻

Have you guys heard of the Covid vaccination delaying ovulation? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just wondering if that’s really a thing?

amyh2012 · 14/09/2021 21:30

@Newgirl21 oh no! I was worried that was going to happen to me, it's really common isn't it. Im still lightly spotting but nothing much to be worried about.

Thankyou! I will be tracking my every movement 🙄🤣
Yeah I've heard all sorts about messing up cycles and fertility. I was due to get my vaccine but I found out I was pregnant so held off and I'm still waiting to get it. I will wait until im pregnant and in my :Ed trimester.

Did you have yours?

Newgirl21 · 14/09/2021 21:53

I did, I decided against having it when I was pregnant- I was worried about the effects on the baby, it’s just such a new thing isn’t it. but after miscarrying I had it done a few days later and had my second jab last week. I’m hoping it doesn’t delay my ovulation too much 🤞🏻

amyh2012 · 15/09/2021 07:59

@Newgirl21 I think everyone is different, I haven't heard about ovulation I heard it delays periods which must mean it's ovulate late I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️ good luck with it! I was tempted to do mine after the miscarriage but held of.
Would you mind to keep me updated please? My family are really on my case about getting the vaccine but they just don't understand.

Newgirl21 · 15/09/2021 18:36

Ofcourse 👍🏻
I know what you mean, my family were trying to talk me into getting the vaccine during my pregnancy. I’m still worried about how it’s going to affect my fertility, but I know many people who have fallen pregnant since having the vaccine and thought I’d rather have it before I fall pregnant again 🤞🏻 Hoping I made the right decision x

Sdoubleyou · 15/09/2021 20:25

Glad to have some news! It's nice to have company during this craziness. Hope you're all doing well (physically and mentally)

I got my first dose of the vaccine a week and a half before getting pregnant and got the second dose a week after the miscarriage. I also was nervous about getting it while pregnant. And I needed up getting a high fever after the second shot Confused

I'm waiting for my period, should be in two days (maybe?). Please please let it be normal!

Sdoubleyou · 17/09/2021 16:26

I seem to be having my first normal period!! Can't believe I'm this happy to be menstruating! Although @Newgirl21, hoping it's not an 11-day one!!

Newgirl21 · 18/09/2021 07:05

@Sdoubleyou it’s so weird to actually be relived too have a period isn’t it. 🤷🏻‍♀️
I hope it’s not too painful or heavy for you,

I’m on day 14 now and still going

MegM14 · 18/09/2021 20:10

Hi! Hope you don’t mind me jumping on here.

I had surgical management on Tuesday just past. This is my 2nd miscarriage this year Sad First one in Feb then fell pregnant again July. My period didn’t come back until May time and I’m dreading how long it might take to come back this time, considering I was a lot further on and required the surgical management. It’s been comforting reading all your experiences and to know I won’t be alone.

I’ve bought some OPKs. Never used them before and just praying my body settled back to normal. Have never wanted my period so much in my life!! X

amyh2012 · 18/09/2021 20:27

Hi @MegM14 I'm so sorry to hear you've gone through this, for a second time must be so heartbreaking ❤️‍🩹 my period came back after around 7 weeks.
Best thing to do with OPKS is test with first morning urine everyday after coming off your period. During your predicted fertile window (on the Flo app) do it twice a day, I've also started doing my BBT to back it up and checking CM. I'm a woman on a mission that's for sure!

Best of luck to you and always feel free to write on here for comfort xx

Newgirl21 · 19/09/2021 12:24

@MegM14 I’m so sorry for your loss 😔 twice this year must be so hard for you and your partner.
I hope your doing ok following your procedure. 💕

The waiting around is awful, this thread was comforting for me in knowing that I’m not alone and speaking to people with similar experiences.
Be kind to yourself @MegM14 💐 x

MegM14 · 19/09/2021 13:36

@amyh2012
Thank you for the advice re the opks. I’ve got the Flo app so I’ll def use that and test like you say.

Thanks @Newgirl21 and @amyh2012 It’s been a rough year. I miscarried first time at 7 weeks and this time 10 weeks. It’s been a very confusing, frustrating time.
Going to focus on getting fitter and healthier and pray my body settles down soon. I’ve been ok after the procedure although today’s the first day I’ve been floored with bad cramps Sad

Sending yous love xx

Sdoubleyou · 19/09/2021 20:21

@MegM14, I am so so sorry this is happening to you again. It's so heartbreaking. I had medical management for a MMC at 9 weeks and got a very light period about 4 weeks later. I started acupuncture right after that and am now having what seems to be a very normal period. The waiting and not know what your body is doing is excruciating. I threw myself into biking and yoga to take my mind off of things and help my body move gently. Constructive distractions are a must in this crappy time.

@Newgirl21, hope you have some respite from AF. I understand the feeling of "watch what you wish for".

amyh2012 · 19/09/2021 20:36

@MegM14 good luck and if you ever want to ask anything, feel free. I'm obsessed and tend to know loads about it all😂 I spend all my free time reading stuff and peeing on sticks haha

Newgirl21 · 19/09/2021 21:07

Thanks @Sdoubleyou, day 15 and still going… my hubby is as frustrated as me 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 lol
I too began to exercise - light yoga, dance class, home work out and it’s done wonders for my my mental health.

I know what you mean @amyh2012- my recent hobbies include pee’ing on sticks and researching ovulation and conception 😂😂

amyh2012 · 20/09/2021 08:06

@Newgirl21 I can't believe it's been 15 days! 😩 you must be up the wall! I'm sure your body is just getting ready again. Hopefully it won't be much longer!

MegM14 · 20/09/2021 09:48

Thank you all so much for your support. First time using Mumsnet for me and it’s so great to be able to speak to people that have been/ are in the same situation. I’ve read about acupuncture, I think I’ll look more in to it now! I’ve booked a reflexology appointment for a couple of weeks time.

This maybe isn’t the thread to ask but I had the surgical management last Tuesday. Very little bleeding after, nothing after Wednesday. Until today??? I’ve started bleeding again. Is that normal? Anyone else experienced this Confused

Xx

amyh2012 · 20/09/2021 12:52

@MegM14 I had the surgical management and I had absolutely no bleeding until 7 weeks after. I do remember the doc saying that anything up to like 11 weeks after including random bleeding and spotting is totally normal. It's just your body getting itself back to normal. I keep saying to myself 'test the process'🤣 I'm going crazy!

Also it totally floored me today, I received an appointment for my anti D injection for my 28 week app, I can't believe they weren't more on top of things like that. Really made me sad, I haven't been sad for a while now but I guess it was unexpected 🥺

MegM14 · 20/09/2021 19:31

Okey dokey thank you! I remember asking about the bleeding but I can’t really remember what they said, I was so drowsy after the anaesthetic and not really with it! It’s been really heavy today, just took me by surprise!

I’m sooo sorry that happened Sad I would have thought they would have been on top of that, how disappointing. Keep your chin up, things will get better. xxx

amyh2012 · 20/09/2021 19:46

@MegM14 I wish I'd have done it like that, I was awake for my procedure and it was horrible. She also had to do it again after the first time because she scanned me right after and there was still tissue left. I think that's why It took so long for my period to arrive, there was literally nothing left 🥺

Onwards and upwards! I'm trying to get into a healthier mind and body so I'm ready to get this right next time! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Hope your cramps are too bad 🥺

Newgirl21 · 20/09/2021 21:25

@amyh2012 I’m so sorry you've had to deal with this, the sheer negligence of them is awful. That must have been a real shock I hope your doing ok 💐
