Period after miscarriage

Hello, I had surgical management mid July and I'm losing the will to live waiting for my period.

I know that it can often take around 6 weeks to return but I have had very strong period cramps for the past 2 weeks and no sign of AF.

Have also had a few follow up scans which showed no issues.

My OPK results have also been wild- had a peak on 11/08 and then another almost peak on 20/08. Today they are fairly dark again. We haven't tried this month so not sure why I've done the ovulation tests, just for fun I suppose.

Does anybody have any experience similar to this??

Hi @HP123, I’m sorry for your loss 😔

I had a surgical management of my MMC 8.3weeks ago and I’m still waiting for my period to arrive. I got a negative pregnancy test 4weeks after the procedure.
I feel your frustration, unfortunately I have no words of advice just the same annoying issue.

HP123 · 26/08/2021 11:29

Hey @Newgirl21 , so sorry for your loss and sorry to hear that everything is taking so long.

Do you have any signs of period arriving at all?

Newgirl21 · 26/08/2021 12:51

A few cramps here and there and I feel quite bloated but nothing definitive 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m gonna give it another week and then phone the Dr.
Feels like I’m just waiting around x

mrsawhite · 26/08/2021 14:38

Hi ladies. Isn't the waiting horrendous. Had tfmr in June. Bled for 6 weeks on and off. Last week of it was really heavy. But nothing since. It's been over 4 weeks but have negative tests. Sigh

HP123 · 26/08/2021 15:54

@Newgirl21 you've done well to wait so long without speaking to the doctors! I'm so impatient

Hi @mrsawhite sorry to hear you're in the same boat. Have you spoken to epu?

I hadn't done a test since 3 weeks after surgical management but just done one and have a faint but clearly visible positive. Waiting for epu to call back

Newgirl21 · 27/08/2021 11:17

@HP123 my fingers are tightly crossed for you! ☺️

Last week I tested and had a faint positive, then left it 5more days tested again and negative so I have no idea what’s going on with me. x

evie34 · 27/08/2021 11:21

i had one in 2018, my period was weird for about a year after. really light and irregular. i still have the info on my flo app - my surgery was on 9th may and my first period was on october 17th 🥲 not sure that’s entirely the norm but my gp didn’t want to listen so i guess it’s nothing worrying. hopefully yours doesn’t take as long though!

Newgirl21 · 29/08/2021 12:58

Thanks @evie34, I guess I could be in for a long wait then.
How you getting on @HP123?

I took a test today but I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s faint could it be a evap?🤷🏻‍♀️

Hey @Newgirl21 I'm in a similar boat to you now, the positive tests were on Thursday. They were FRER. Left it all weekend and done a cheapie today and negative now?

Have you spoken to epu they might ask you back in for bloods?

Getting a negative and really gotten me down a bit I think I had got my hopes up but can't understand what the cramps were

OP posts:
HP123 · 30/08/2021 08:58

@Newgirl21 also I can definetly see the line! Is it showing up within 5 mins?

OP posts:
Newgirl21 · 30/08/2021 09:26

I’m sorry your going through this too😔 it’s so disheartening. Yep that was within the 5min guidelines. Took a digital clearblue yesterday and it was negative.

I think your right and I may need to call the EPU x

amyh2012 · 31/08/2021 10:18

I could've written the exact same post!

Sorry Ito hear you're going through the same thing. It's so awful.
I had a MMC and had the MVA procedure on 22/07. It will be 6 weeks this Thursday and no real sign of AF? I have had some cramps here and there but nothing.
I did the PT they gave me 3 weeks after the procedure which was negative. Started trying again and the tests are now really faint lines, almost negative and the digital ones are definitely negative. So confused and just want to have my period now to start tracking properly. It's so stressful!!!

HP123 · 31/08/2021 10:42

@Newgirl21 the wait is soul destroying isn't it. How did you get on? Did you call epu?

@amyh2012 sorry to hear you're in the same boat, I had my surgery the day before you so interesting to know we're having a similar issue. Fingers crossed you could be pregnant is it worth speaking to your gp so they can check your bloods?

Newgirl21 · 31/08/2021 11:10

Well this thread is making me realise it’s more common than I thought.
I’m also sorry your experiencing this too @amyh2012 😔

It’s now 9.1weeks since the procedure.
I contacted the EPU @HP123 she said that if your usually fit and healthy it should return by 6weeks. She advised me to take another test next week (clear blue) first pee of the day and contact the GP for an appointment if it’s still negative. So again it’s just the waiting around 🤷🏻‍♀️

Newgirl21 · 31/08/2021 11:10

How are you doing@HP123?

HP123 · 31/08/2021 11:44

@Newgirl21 so they are agreeing it should be back by now but not doing anything about it for another week? That's not very helpful is it, do you think your gp might be of more use?

I'm losing the plot, I have a few pregnancy symptoms but tests still negative so not sure what the positives last Thursday were about. I had an opk peak on 11/08 and then a higher one on 26/08. I didn't opk test again until Sunday when it had dropped again so hopefully I ovulated on 27/08. We did have sex on Friday and it wasn't until Sunday that I looked back and realised that could have been ovulation day too.

We did say we weren't going to try til after first period but I'd be pleased if we did get pregnant this cycle

OP posts:
amyh2012 · 31/08/2021 11:46

@HP123 yes it will be interesting to see each other's journey! I'm certain my tests are negative as the one I did this morning was negative.
I'm going to give it to the 6 week mark which is Thursday and maybe call the docs. I reckon it's a waiting game. So unfair as the symptoms from period pain, early pregnancy and ovulation are so similar I have recently turned into a crazed woman peeing on all the sticks GrinConfused

Newgirl21 · 31/08/2021 13:08

Well I did phone the GP two weeks ago, they wouldn’t see me because of Covid 🙄 and told me to test again in another week. She didn’t seem to be concerned about it.

My fingers are tightly crossed for you guys 🤞🏻
I know what you mean @HP123 I feel like a total crazy person lately 🙈🙈

mrsawhite · 31/08/2021 14:53

I finally got a period on something like day 35. How are you all getting on? The wait was agonising. But I feel at least I can start tracking again

Newgirl21 · 31/08/2021 19:39

@mrsawhite I hope this cycle brings you luck x

HP123 · 02/09/2021 17:16

How is everybody getting on?

Had my bloods yesterday hcg has dropped since last time which is good as must mean no retained product but I'm still hoping that if I ovulated on Friday and had fallen pregnant it wouldn't show in bloods yet, right??

OP posts:
Newgirl21 · 02/09/2021 17:40

Hi @HP123, that’s good news 👍🏻 Yeah I think it may be a little early to tell but my fingers are crossed for you 😬
I saw a Dr yesterday, she told me that everyone is different and not to worry too much that my period hasn’t returned yet. I have to retest in three weeks if it’s not back by then. She did a pregnancy test on me which came back negative. I’m just so impatient, wish I knew what was going on with my body 🤷🏻‍♀️
I don’t know whether to start tracking my ovulation, I fell pregnant instantly with my 4yr old and pretty quickly prior to my miscarriage so it’s all pretty new to me.

How you guys feeling?

HP123 · 02/09/2021 17:43

@Newgirl21 if you feel up to it then I think go for it. I was planning on waiting but after none of the epu nurses seemed bothered when I had a positive test last week I thought why not just go with the flow x
