Period after miscarriage

Hello, I had surgical management mid July and I'm losing the will to live waiting for my period.

I know that it can often take around 6 weeks to return but I have had very strong period cramps for the past 2 weeks and no sign of AF.

Have also had a few follow up scans which showed no issues.

My OPK results have also been wild- had a peak on 11/08 and then another almost peak on 20/08. Today they are fairly dark again. We haven't tried this month so not sure why I've done the ovulation tests, just for fun I suppose.

Does anybody have any experience similar to this??

No problem Flowers x

Newgirl21 · 03/01/2022 17:32

@Sdoubleyou, I retested today and negative- I’m guessing I had one of those nasty little evaps 👎🏻
Still no sight of AF though and cramping so much - just gonna keep an eye.
My fingers are so tightly crossed for you hun. Are you planning on testing? x

Shortmamashortcycles · 03/01/2022 17:42

@Newgirl21 ah noooo I've been keeping you in mind. You sound ok about the BFN though? When is AF due?

Newgirl21 · 03/01/2022 18:22

Thanks @Shortmamashortcycles I’m doing ok thanks - disappointed but I know it’ll happen when the times right 👍🏻
I don’t know when it’s due, I’ve been so irregular since it came back in November. I’m on day 26 so I think it’ll be pretty soon.

Sdoubleyou · 03/01/2022 20:10

Oh no @Newgirl21, that really stinks. I got a bad evap a while ago and have resolved to test later. I'm planning on not testing at all this month unless AF is late. I'll see if I can resist, but I have no desire to see another negative if that's what awaiting me.

amyh2012 · 04/01/2022 17:46

Ahh @Newgirl21 I'm sorry about your bfn😞 I hope you're ok?

There's still every hope until your period arrives, which I hope it doesn't.

Fingers crossed for both you and @Sdoubleyou

Newgirl21 · 04/01/2022 19:50

It’s arrived! 👎🏻
I’m ok thanks @amyh2012 at least I can start to track properly now also sat having a VERY large glass of wine and some left over Christmas chocolate 👌🏻
Hope your doing ok.
I know what you mean @Sdoubleyou these negatives are just awful

amyh2012 · 11/01/2022 17:22

Aww @Newgirl21 sorry to hear that.

Hope you enjoyed your wine and chocolate you absolutely deserve it ❤️

Sdoubleyou · 12/01/2022 15:02

Little update, unfortunately AF has arrived. I'm booked for tests this Friday. Am in disbelief that we've come to this, I fell pregnant so easily the first time. But I'm thankful that I'm over 35, so just had to endure 6 months of wait and not a year. Hopefully it's a quick fix 🤞. Hope you're all well!

Shortmamashortcycles · 12/01/2022 15:36

Sending you a virtual hug @Sdoubleyou, it truly sucks. Do let us know how the tests go, and yes, hopefully they can give you answers and some help. Hope you have a lovely glass of wine planned for this evening!

I'm also 35 so have decided if we don't have any luck by May, I'm going to refer myself to a private fertility clinic to get checked. I'm very lucky that we're financially able to do that!

Newgirl21 · 12/01/2022 19:46

@Sdoubleyou, I’m sorry AF arrived 😔
I really hope all your tests go well on Friday- you’ll be in my thoughts x
I’ll also be 35 this year.

So I’m feeling particularly sensitive. Today would have been my due date 😢 I’m having extra cuddles with my little man and preparing for a large glass of wine and the remainder of the Xmas chocolate as soon as he goes to bed.

Be kind to yourselves girls 💕 x

Shortmamashortcycles · 12/01/2022 20:25

Oh love, @Newgirl21, I'm sorry today's the day. Hope your wee man gave you lots of cuddles and the wine and chocolate is going down well. But it's rubbish, no two ways about it. ❤❤❤

Newgirl21 · 12/01/2022 22:38

Thanks @Shortmamashortcycles x

Sdoubleyou · 13/01/2022 01:04

@Newgirl21, sending you a ton of hugs. I hope you're doing ok, know that we're here with you. ❤️

Sdoubleyou · 13/01/2022 17:31

We're really lucky in my province (Quebec), they have an excellent program to help people conceive. Up to 9 IUI inseminations are covered by our health system as well as a lot of other things. And I have private insurance as well. Takes the pressure off. I'm expecting that it'll be a quick fix since I got pregnant naturally a few months ago.

Shortmamashortcycles · 20/01/2022 14:06

CD1 for me, after I have had the exact, and I mean exact same set of symptoms as I had for my last BFP. Today has been extra painful.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. @Sdoubleyou, how did the tests go? Can I ask which ones you did, if you don't mind? I think after one more cycle I'm going to get AMH and AFC done privately, so I feel like I'm doing something other than just blindly hoping.

Sdoubleyou · 20/01/2022 20:33

Hi @Shortmamashortcycles, I'm so sorry to hear that 💔. I did a pelvic sonogram, blood tests, hysterosonography (might be called something different in the UK - it's the one where they inject saline water into the uterus and the tubes) as well as a hysterosalpingography (they inject an iodine solution into the uterus and tubes and do an x-ray). So far I've got the results of all but the blood test and it's normal/great. I have a lot of follicles, 7 on the left and 10 on the right. At 36, that's well above average so phew. I'll see with the blood tests about the quality.

My DP was supposed to do his spermogramme today but "lost" half his sample. I want to laugh and cry at the same time because he had one job, just jizz into a tube. Now he has to go back in two weeks (I'm ovulating next week so we can't be abstinent) and I'm totally crushed that this will set us back again for any interventions. I know I'm being a little dramatic, but I'm totally demoralized in bearing the brunt of this process. We waited because he wasn't ready and now I'm going to be minimum 37 1/2 when we have a kid (assuming it works out) and it's hard not to be angry at him.

Sorry for the rant, just feeling so much frustration today.

Shortmamashortcycles · 20/01/2022 22:34

Thanks so much, @Sdoubleyou, that's great news all the results so far have been good.

Also, that's hilarious - I mean it's super frustrating but hilarious because my DH got his sperm tested when we were TTC DD, and the one issue was his morphology. He knows he has a thyroid issue which could affect morphology. He's on medication but needs to check his blood levels every year. Finally got his blood test a month ago... has he got the results yet? What do you think?

FFS, I almost died in my ERPC, the least he could do is try to minimise the chance of a future miscarriage! Men!!!!

Shortmamashortcycles · 20/01/2022 22:35

P.s. rant away, that's super annoying. I repeat - MEN!!!

Sdoubleyou · 21/01/2022 23:02

@Shortmamashortcycles, thanks for sympathizing! I went off the deep-end yesterday about having to wait two more weeks. My DP doesn't really understand, he's just "it'll happen soon" and I sometimes want to strangle him with his positivity.

MiaGrace31 · 25/01/2022 19:56

Hi, I know this thread has been going a while but just wondered if anyone can offer any advice. I had a missed miscarriage back end of Novemeber and nearly ten weeks later I got what I thought was the start of my first period. However this has never amounted to any more than what could be described as heavy spotting for the last week. Its really getting me down, Im not sure whether to count this as my first period. Was expecting a really heavy period considering it had been so long. I have spoke to the GP and all im getting is it takes time for your body to settle down etc, thats easy for them to say when there not going through it and scared they wont be able to concieve again. Sorry my message is really doom and gloom its just all really getting me down. xxx

amyh2012 · 26/01/2022 16:06

@Sdoubleyou not logged on for a while and read your comment about DH 'losing' his sample and it was very funny. Hope all is going well with the tests ☺️ sounds promising 😘
@MiaGrace31 sorry you found yourself here after what you've been through 💔

I remember my first period was super light too, I thought exactly the same and was expecting something super heavy and painful. I would count it as your first one and try to start tracking your cycle from there! Hopefully your next one won't be 10 weeks 🤞🏼

Shortmamashortcycles · 26/01/2022 16:29

@MiaGrace31, so sorry you're here, hun. I've just checked my cycle history and while it only took me 4 weeks to get my period back after my miscarriage, that first period was a bit weird - light and with random spotting halfway through the following cycle. My ovulation was also a week or so later than expected. The cycle after that was much more normal, so I'd say as frustrating as it is, honestly a bit more time is probably all your body needs to get back on track.

I vividly remember how awful the weird limbo state is, though. You'd think a miscarriage would be fairly quick but in reality it just goes on and on.

Feel free to check in again as things progress. Hopefully you'll be back into the swing of things next month and on your way to your 🌈.

MiaGrace31 · 26/01/2022 16:40

Tried to tag you both but not sure how to do it 🤔 thankyou both for your replys. It certainly isn't the place I wanted to find myself but forums like this seem super supportive and it's comforting to know your not alone. Yeah I just hope it's my body getting back to normal, just can't believe it has took as long as it has. The spotting has ended so think I'm goin to have to count it as my first cycle and see what happens. I was always super regular prior to miacarriage and I just kind of thought I would go back to that, hard when you're really wanting to concieve again but not even sure if it's even possible at the moment. I see your expecting again Amy congratulationsto nice to hear positive stories. Xxx

MiaGrace31 · 26/01/2022 16:41

Oh and that weird limbo feeling inthe worst it really is xxx
