Sydney Meetup

Right-ho, we've been discussing this elsewhere but thought a seperate thread may be useful.

Concept was to have a sprog and non sprog meetup

Sprog - aquarium, thus far I think the best day was Monday, I know there are a lot of you 'popping' back to the UK back can we still manage May? I for one have no plans EVER.

Non sprog - Opera bar for a Saturday lunch again? When? First I could do is May 16.

Anybody fancy an (early) evening thing, also up for debate is the possible hunter valley trip? (thumb to be in charge)

bunnygirl80 · 28/04/2011 07:12

I'm back in the UK for the whole of May. I'm not too bothered if the with sprog meetup goes ahead without us as DS is a bit young to appreciate things like the aquarium at the mo.

Could we make the non sprog meet up early June - perhaps Sat 11th? That's the Queen's birthday weekend but I play netball most Sat arvos except for when there's school/public holidays. I'm already missing loads of games after breaking my finger in round 2 - not that I'm that much of a key player on the team after missing half of last season due to being so pg my bump split the seams on my uniform Grin

Eralc · 28/04/2011 08:28

Mondays are great for us - we have visitors here on the 9th and 16th May, so after that would be good.

Non-sprog meet-up in early June would be good - we thought about going away for the bank holiday weekend of the 11th, but we've yet to book anything, so it's all rearrangable! The only problem with it might be that I might have to bring sprog the smaller along if people don't mind - at the moment he is incapable of going more than 2 hours (on a good day) between feeds! On the plus side he is pretty chilled out and shouldn't cause any problems (unlike his older brother!)

Hunter valley at some point also sounds good, but would probably have to wait until little sprog was a big bigger!

ninedragons · 29/04/2011 00:43

Oooh, I'll come to the Booze Version.

Though am breastfeeding so will (a) have to bring sprog and (b) not get falling-over pissed.

The risk of that is considerably diminished for us all now Brightongirl has gone home. She was a VERY BAD influence. Last time I went out with her I fell over in the bushes outside our place and couldn't get up for AGES.

Livinginoz · 29/04/2011 01:45

Can I come to the non-sprog meet up, I missed the last one because DH had to work, and now he's a SAHD so don't have that problem!

Been to the aquarium at least 100 times since we got here in June! Grin

sunnydelight · 29/04/2011 02:17

Maybe I should look up Brightongirl when I'm there in a couple of weeks then (not that I need any more drinking buddies in Brighton Blush).

June best for me too - having left DH and the kids for a couple of weeks he may not be too chuffed if I bugger off for the day as soon as I get back! June 11th is free for me atm.

I love the idea of a Hunter valley meet up but visiting the Hunter and driving are a bit incompatible. If there were enough of us maybe we could do one of those "small group" day trips from Sydney and pick up thumb (and anyone else in the area) on the way?

cjdamoo · 29/04/2011 03:47

i could make the trip from newie.... and be token teetotal weeble like pregnant pom.

ninedragons · 29/04/2011 03:58

I think Brightongirl will be much more staid now, given that she has a lovely cuddly baby boy now.

But who knows? Maybe not [cgrin].

Did anyone else catch the news last night? I was listening with half an ear so don't even know what channel it was on, but one of the reporters said that William and Kate would be married by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Atkinson. I killed myself laughing. Blackadder certainly opened doors for him, then!

bunnygirl80 · 29/04/2011 06:14

cj at both recent meet ups there's always been one person who's a matter of days off their due date so teetotal weebles are welcomed with open arms [cgrin]

sunny that's a great idea re the Hunter. I sent the PILs on one of those trips while they were over so I've got the contact details for a few companies.

HighFibreDiet · 05/05/2011 14:33

Oh yes I will be another teetotal weeble, especially the later on you hold the meetup. Any Monday good for Aquarium as long as I have a week or so's notice so I don't double-book.

thatsnotmymonster · 29/05/2011 11:04

Hi guys!

Sorry I went AWOL for a while- we've had a lot on lol!! So we are HERE!! Arrived 3 weeks ago and loving it so far but we have been crazy busy. Still trying to get a rental but I should have one by tomorrow...

Wasn't sure which thread to post on but this seemed like the best bet as both have gone a bit quiet. We are living in Maryville at the moment and have another 3 weeks here. It's a nice house and it's very central so that's great and only 2 minutes drive to dh's work.

It's nice to be in the same time zone as you all now too!

sunnydelight · 01/06/2011 23:44

Oh hi TNMM, glad you finally made it, hope the move went ok. I have been sick pretty much since I got back from Ireland a couple of weeks back so not being very sociable at the moment but will hopefully be back to normal soon. You're a couple of hours away from me according to Google maps, are you looking for a rental in the same area?

abithormonal · 02/06/2011 08:04

Great isn't it, I start my first thread and then run away.

I think most of you are back in Sydney after your jaunts abroad (lucky devils, I got to go as far as Tasmania) Only one I think we'd be waiting on is Thumb.

Would a sunday be more suitable for you Bunny? I could go for a proper Sunday Pub Roast if I can hunt one down? Sadly we have plans for the long weekend as I'm sure some of you guys do too. I'm then free 25/26th and all weekends in July so far. Can we pencil in the 26th then work round that?

I'm off to the aquarium on Tuesday with my mothers group meeting around 10:30, well I say that, I've organised it and no one so far has said they'll come. So I'll be there at 10:30 if anyone wants to join. We can do any Monday this month and next. I'd be happy to go daily as DS is walking and causing no end of grief at the minute.

bunnygirl80 · 03/06/2011 04:26

TNMM glad you made it here ok. Hope you continue to settle in well

Sunny hope you feel better soon

abit a Sunday would be better for me, and I quite fancy a proper Sunday Roast that I haven't had to cook myself Grin

I'm free pretty much every Sunday between now and about 2020!! Saturdays are a bit more difficult as even if I skip netball DH will be playing rugby so childcare is then an issue

Eralc · 03/06/2011 04:38

Hooray - glad you are here safely TNMM!

Sundays are good for me too (we're off to Canberra for the long weekend as a practice trip away with both boys). After the long weekend, I am also free on Sundays for the next 6 months! Still might have to bring DS2 with me as he is still refusing to go more than 2 hours without a feed (and that's if I'm lucky!) - he is also refusing to drink from a bottle at all at the moment - what fun.

Am still working out the logistics of getting to the aquarium - at the moment the thought of trying to get the two boys and the pram onto Sydney buses on my own fills me full of terror, and I'm not sure my back will take carrying the "small" baby around in the sling all day! Will have a think about the best way to do it!

the4ofus · 13/06/2011 22:27

Hi girls - I hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread but you all sound lovely and I'm on my way to Sydney soon so would love to have some friends in the area! My DH has just accepted a job in the CBD and we're starting the exciting (scary!) process of looking for schools and areas to live.

Would you all mind letting me know where you all live and what you think of it and how old your littlies are? I have two littlies: a girl aged 3 (4 in September) and a little (very cheeky) boy aged 19 months.

We're due to arrive in November so it would be lovely to keep in touch and hopefully I can meet you guys when we eventually get there!

bunnygirl80 · 14/06/2011 04:07

hi the4ofus The best place to look to find out about suburbs etc. is this thread which has a pretty decent discussion on relocating, including where to live, schools, what stuff to ship and what to buy new etc etc. It might be worth having a read of that (it got pretty long though) and then posting any other questions you have Smile

My DS has just turned 7 months, and he'll be just turning 1 when you arrive. I'm sure there will be several of us who'd be happy to meet up with you and show you around when you get here

thumbwitch · 14/06/2011 04:25

Woohoo! Found you all :)

Sundays should be fine for me - 26th June looks like a good bet if it works for everyone else?

Mondays are less convenient for us cos we have Little Kickers on Monday mornings, doesn't finish until 10:30 and then it would be another 1.5-2h before we could get into Sydney, so we could perhaps meet you for lunch and then do an afternoon Aquarium visit, but if you want to do morning we'd have to bow out. Our good day is Friday - or I could do a Wednesday, DS is normally out with Grandma on a Wednesday but she could do another day or miss a week with no problem.

TNMM - hurrah for being here! Although it's not warm at the moment, is it? Grin

the4ofus, I'm sure we'll be having regular meet-ups so look forward to seeing you at them!

HighFibreDiet · 14/06/2011 04:38

Hello again

Dc4 due 17 July and I'm hoping will come early, so unlikely I will make any meetups in June or July. But marking my place for future meetups!

Congrats to TNMM for making it over. Smile

sunnydelight · 14/06/2011 06:38

We're going down to the Southern Highlands for a few days from Sunday 26th I'm afraid - making the most of the cheaper first week of our school holidays - so I'm not around. I'm free every weekend in July though (hopeful emoticom!). I do love a Sunday roast!

Good luck HighFibre, let us know how it goes Smile

abithormonal · 15/06/2011 11:32

HighFibre I think I was due the day before our first meetup, or some such foolishness, not saying that you should, just that I'm a fool.

TNMM welcome, hope you've not been blown away up there.

Thumb, are you back then?

Sunny can you make the 3rd July

I was thinking here so as I'd like to say to eddie mcguire I'll lock it in the 3rd July at 12, for a 1:30 lunch at the edinburgh castle.

I am more than happy to go more than once to the aquarium, DS is loving it, Bunny in a couple of months time it will be worth bringing DS and getting yourself the annual pass, it is sooo good at this age (14months), plus the lightrail from your place makes it awesome. Shall we discuss over a roast and a pint?

OP posts:
Eralc · 15/06/2011 12:49

I won't be able to do the 3rd July - my sister is coming to visit (unexpectedly - she only booked it the day before yesterday and arrives a week on Saturday) and she will still be here then. If everyone else is good with it though, I'll just miss it this time. Can do the aquarium whenever though, although Thurs and Fri is preschool for DS1, so not so easy.

bunnygirl80 · 17/06/2011 03:46

I'm fine for the 3rd July (or most Sundays in July actually)

abit I might have to try DS at the aquarium - he is definitely getting more interested in looking at stuff and it'll get him out of the house. He's now mobile, and he's determined to lick/chew/bash/destroy everything in his path, with the exeption of all the age appropriate baby safe toys he has.

thumbwitch · 17/06/2011 04:49

3rd July is fine for me too. I should be fine for the 10th as well, but not sure about the two after that as DH is planning time off and it will be around my birthday, which falls in between the 17th and 24th July so I don't know which weekend will be incorporated, possibly even both.

Bunny - DS's first trip to the aquarium was when he was nearly 6mo - we took him to Sealife at Chessington for DH's birthday. He loved looking at all the fish and everything, even then (he still does Grin)

sunnydelight · 17/06/2011 06:10

I can do the 3rd (though I might have a major hangover as it's my friend's 40th the night before!) or the 10th at the moment.

Eralc · 17/06/2011 07:38

I'm free on the 10th :)
