Gives you the creeps doesn't it? There are loads of these campaigners in Holland where they are very vocal. I think they even have a political party.

MrsMar · 13/08/2007 19:01

bleurgh!!!!! what a freak! not normally one to quote the daily mail, but castration is the only thing that'll work for people like that... how can they not see there's anything wrong with what they do?

tigerschick · 13/08/2007 19:03

ppb - I did not know that about Holland - that is horrendous!

OP posts:
paulaplumpbottom · 13/08/2007 19:05

Yeah its pretty sick, I guess democracy doesn't always work.

handlemecarefully · 13/08/2007 19:05

Holland is just way too liberal on many things imo

Sometimes a bit of censorship is just what the doctor ordered, rather than unfettered freedom of expression

paulaplumpbottom · 13/08/2007 19:08

well unfortunatly you can't legislate common sense

tigerschick · 13/08/2007 19:10

Exactly - it's just scarey to think that there are enough people out there, who think like that, to make a Political Party! That is really frightening.

handlemecarefully · 13/08/2007 19:10

True but you cqn legislate to mqke promotion qnd advocqcy of such things an offence. Odd thqt Holland has not bothered

LelsandZaffy · 13/08/2007 19:11

Twat should be strung up by his testicles!

Or the castration thing! I read a study about that in Florida, and it actually proved sucessful! Will try find the link!

handlemecarefully · 13/08/2007 19:11

sorry about typos - using french keyboqrd

This is in France, not the one I was on about!

paulaplumpbottom · 13/08/2007 19:18

Its been very successful in Florida. Although in Florida its voluntary

tigerschick · 13/08/2007 19:19

That is a very interesting article. I agree that it is a 'quick fix' but, surely, it is better to do something rather than nothing! And, while the impulses are being suppressed, you can start more psycological treatment.
Trouble is, people here would complain about the cost.

OP posts:
paulaplumpbottom · 13/08/2007 19:21

Its the cost of not doing it I worry about. Can you put a price on a child's safety and well being

tigerschick · 13/08/2007 19:24

Precisely - but you know what people are like. Makes me so sad and cross when I think that something could be done ... but isn't.

OP posts:
paulaplumpbottom · 13/08/2007 19:26

Actually there are alot of human rights campaigners who are against it. They think its treating men like animals. Do they do it chemically in France?

tigerschick · 13/08/2007 19:31

From that article it looks like it's an injection that supresses 'urges' and stops them getting an erection. But it is temporary - and voluntary.

OP posts:
totaleclipse · 13/08/2007 19:33

Thats an insult to animals.

Wolfgirl · 13/08/2007 19:52

"...On Monday, a judge at Leicester Crown Court gave Joy an indeterminate sentence. For parole purposes, he was given two years for possessing indecent images of children and three years for making indecent images"

is that all!!!!!!!!!! I have I read this wrong??!!??

tigerschick · 13/08/2007 19:55

NO!! It is not wrong

He wasn't arrested because of his pro-sicko campaigning. Only for the images - only for having hundreds of images. Heartbreaking isn't it.

Reallytired · 13/08/2007 21:32

I am not sure that castration is the answer. These sickos will just use their fingers or an inaminate object to violate these poor children.

Rape is often about the power to bully and humilate a victim rather than sex. These paedophiles need to be locked up and kept away from children whether they have been castrated or not.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 13/08/2007 21:35

oh lord, not the castration thing again.....

LelsandZaffy · 13/08/2007 22:04

Yeah but the whole castration thing is to supress the urge isn't it?? The testosterone?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 13/08/2007 22:12

Its a tiny part (pardon the very inappropriate pun) of a much larger issue within an individual.

Compulsary castration is wrong, it has not yet been proven to work - and those that it has worked on, may well have managed to curb their behaviour with CBT anyway, because clearly they wanted to change their behaviour.

Bubble99 · 13/08/2007 22:15

In Denmark (I think) the combination of drug therapy and CBT has had amazing results. Saw a report on Newsnight a while back.
