Sorry Bubble..you mean the connection twix being a child soldier and being abused?? That learned behavious as a little one is deeply embedded?? Very highly likely, yes, and long term to unpick.BUT, child soldiers are usually easily identifiable. IT's obvious.

It is impossible to know the true prportion of sexual abusers who go onto abuse themselves, yes? We usually only have their word for it. (was Chris Langham a 'victim', or was that a handy 'explanation'/defence-of-sorts'?). Different studies produce different results.

Certainly what is true that v. poor sexual boundaries when growing up can lead to a confusion about what is ok and what isn't.

Heathcliffscathy · 14/08/2007 22:21

kerry. i am not for a second having a go at people (you) who have been abused and are full of hate and rage. that is healthy.

i'm questioning those who haven't and are.

divastrop it is a widely observed phenomenon that men hit out and women hit in i.e. men that have suffered various forms of abuse have a tendency of acting them out externally whereas women often turn their hatred and pain inwards vis self harming etc.

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 22:22

I imagine that a sexually abused child may grow up with a totally skewed view of normal adult sexuality.

newlifenewname · 14/08/2007 22:23

My understanding is that becoming a paedophile is dependent upon the conditions around one's mergent sexuality.

If as one reaches the age of sexual awareness one fails to achieve positive sexual experiences among one's peers then one experiences a sort of stasis and can then only become aroused by others of a similar age to the age that said individual first became sexually aware.

So, if at age 8 a child is sexually rejected and so on until adulthood then he may then continue to desire 8 year olds.

Pan · 14/08/2007 22:24

KM - I'm not seeing alot of 'feeling sorry' for them around.

A common thing that arises on these threads is the notion of victim versus abuser..as if one must be promoted at the cost of the other. Not so. there is an interst in both to heal themselves.

newlife. That's interesting about someone being 'stuck' at a certain age, sexually.

Kerry. I'm pleased that you have managed to go on, after such a damaging experience, to have normal and healthy relationships.

AFAIK, paedophile abusers often use guilt as a way to silence their victims and I imagine that many abused children must grow up with so many issues with self-esteem.

Heathcliffscathy · 14/08/2007 22:34

yes bubble, namely that they deserved/provoked what happened....that is one of the most terrible legacies of abuse.

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 22:46

On the subject of all things horsey, well, ponyish in this case...

Today as I was walking with the boys through the woods opposite our house, next to a polo club/field, I saw a vision.

An Argentinian stable lad (about mid twenties?) with flowing dark hair and tanned muscular limbs was riding a polo pony bareback along the path towards us.....

Mmmmmmm

Sorry.

As you were.

Pan · 14/08/2007 22:50

Was he riding in slow motion, aquiline jaw set in concentration, steely blue eyes, as azure as the ocean, firm forearms steering his charge to every one of his whims....

that sort of thing??

Heathcliffscathy · 14/08/2007 22:51

pan are you jilly cooper?

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 22:51

Yes! That's the one, soph.

I think they have some kind of exchange programme with an Argentinian club.

That was probably the same bloke. Flashing eyes etc.

Mmmmmmmm...

Of course, my boys were saying/shouting..

"Mummy. Why has your face gone red?"

Heathcliffscathy · 14/08/2007 22:52

ROFL

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 22:53

It was the way his thighs gripped the horses bare flank....

Pan · 14/08/2007 22:53

I think one or two of us ahve been at the jilly's well before I said anything.....

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 22:54

Fancy a walk over there one day, soph?

Heathcliffscathy · 14/08/2007 22:54

and the tendons in his tanned forearms flexed as he gently but firmly lead the horse ....he was in command.
