Part 4: Israeli-Palestinian conflict

AndHarry · 31/07/2014 11:46

New thread again.

Thread 1 - started when 3 Israeli boys were found murdered.

Thread 2 - in which we mainly discussed Operation Protective Edge.

Thread 3 - in which we continued to discuss Operation Protective Edge, the wider conflict and international involvement.

Welcome to part 4, in which I hope it's not too much to ask that we stick to the MN Talk Guidelines Wink

As many people have asked about Syria, I'm pleased to say that a new discussion on that subject has been started (by another poster here.

Cupcakes for Gaza- excellent. Can we get the WI on board do you reckon? Humanitarian bunting could be a goer? Maybe Cath Kidston could produce some! Every little helps, which brings me to my awful replies from Tesco and Sainsbury's customer service depts. Sainsbury's is an ethical and no political organisation. So is Tesco. Thank heavens there is a Co OP around the corner.

Leehy1CORD · 31/07/2014 13:57

Police have charged four teenagers in connection with an assault on a rabbi in Gateshead.
The victim, in his 40s, was attacked as he left a Jewish study centre at the centre of the North East’s biggest Orthodox Jewish Community, in Bensham.
Northumbria Police spokesman said: “A report was received that a man had been assaulted on Rydal Street in Gateshead in the early hours of the morning of Friday July 18.
“The victim suffered minor injuries.
AND you ARE calling that NOT RACISM?

OneStepCloser · 31/07/2014 13:59

Hmm I like the idea of CupCakes for Gaza, I wonder how I could set that up locally, feel so powerless to help these poor people whilst the world stands by and watches this Genocide.

Can someone remind me, the start of the barcode for Israeli products is it 729?

A brave article by ex IDF soldier

DieselSpillages · 31/07/2014 14:01

Israeli barcodes

PigletJohn · 31/07/2014 14:07

I wonder who the "you" is that Leehy is addressing.

I think he has still not read this thread, as requested earlier.

And he has no answer to Thu 31-Jul-14 13:24:48

OneStepCloser · 31/07/2014 14:11

Fantastic, thanks DieselSpillages

thecatfromjapan · 31/07/2014 14:12

Thank you Diesel! Smile

PigletJohn · 31/07/2014 14:17

Still, at least arrests have been made in Gateshead.

Whereas
No arrests have been made.

it is alleged that Israeli police took no action

To prove that this isn't a war between religions. It's good to know that communities are coming together in the face if israels genocide.

donnie · 31/07/2014 14:40

Marta123 I have reported you racist post "very soon we will all be bowing down 5 times a day in a mosque"

I urge other posters to DISENGAGE from this racist poster.

"Muslim ghettoes controlled by fanatics" - by Leehy1CORD

There is seriously a load of race hat eon this thread now. Please, ordinary MNers DO NOT ENGAGE with these people.

donnie · 31/07/2014 14:49

I have also reported Marta123's post 'are you a lesbian'? - as a rule we need to refuse any engagement with a racist homophobe.

MotherSouperior · 31/07/2014 14:52

Andcake thank you for posting that list of companies to boycott –and everyone else who has posted details of what we can do to show our abhorrence at what is happening in Gaza.

I'm another one who simply despairs at the news over the past few days – and am so grateful to you somewheresafe for starting these threads and keeping them going. it's good to know there is something we can do (other than writing to our MPs Hmm ), however small a gesture.

I couldn't second your post more acatfromJapan I am in shock that humanitarian outrages like this can be committed – repeatedly – and that the international community is apparently impotent in the face war crimes.

CoteDAzur · 31/07/2014 14:55

You are right, IsraeliArab. Israel has not committed war crimes, since wars take place between two states.

Israel has committed and continues to commit crimes against humanity, as defined by the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

somewheresafe · 31/07/2014 14:56

Mother it is Andharry who started the threads and I'm grateful to her. I feel strongly that I have to comment instead of remaining silent.

Did anyone see mark Regev on al jazeera today? He actually makes my skin crawl. He tried to state that the UN schools were hit by Hamas rockets. He really is despicable.

Yruapita · 31/07/2014 15:01

I dont know if Mark Regev Deciphered has been posted already. The subtitles explaining what he really means, have been added to the interview on newsnight.

Let me be clear, he cannot stop lying! Theres another video with subtitles too further down the page with Jon Snow this time from some years ago.

donnie · 31/07/2014 15:03

Indeed he is somewhere. And btw please ignore the nasty comments from the racists, your posts are really good Smile

somewheresafe · 31/07/2014 15:03

You'd think nutty yahoo would reconsider his choice of spokesman by now. He is totally incompetent. Sweaty slimy hypocrite.

MotherSouperior · 31/07/2014 15:07

Thanks, somewhere for pointing that out. Andharry thank YOU so much.

Cote Thank you for clarifying the point about crimes against humanity.

I do not know how Mark Regev sleeps at night.

PigletJohn · 31/07/2014 15:11

I believe his correct title is actually "the loathsome Mark Regev"

donnie · 31/07/2014 15:11

Yrapita that link is ace!

zinher · 31/07/2014 15:11

Security council is meeting again. It will probably be another useless meeting as the US will veto anything remotely resembling a cease fire.

Thre you go another briefing only. How many Palestinians will be killed before anything will be done? 86000 reservists being called up by Israel.

Was reading in Newsweek that a poll of Israelis showed that 86.6% are against a ceasefire and support the current operation.

donnie · 31/07/2014 15:12

Piglet no, actually it is 'vile maggot'.

RebeccaMumsnet · 31/07/2014 15:14

Hi all,

Many thanks for the reports about this thread.

Can we remind everyone, as the OP did, about our Talk guidelines , it is absolutely fine to debate but we ask everyone to be respectful and civil to others.

Many thanks
