Welcome one and all!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on February 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

I'm back from halfterm(we had a great time in Eire -sans husband though)
Husband has been minding house, which was in a fair mess when I left anyway, so there seems a awful lot to sort out now. He was v. helpful, did loads of washing, sheet changing etc, but somehow...

it is all chaos again perhaps I've just run out of steam after halfterm frolics
we've all got the sneezles, and there are loads of fixed arrangements this week for one thing and another..
Feetheart tell me salmon recipe - ds2 just loves what he calls "macaroni fish" so any variants welcome
Mrs Dinky know what you mean about Beavers - does shift balance alarmingly, and I have a Cub and a Brownie too (Mons and Weds), lots of trying to get homework/supper done before then dealing with overexcited dcs who won't go to bed. They seem to LOVE it though.

So I'm babystepping through the rubble this morning.
First step
breakfast tidy
piano practise
then 10 min rescue cr*p from suitcases in hall and livingroom
then 10 min rescue playroom

BODY ClUTTER going well here, lots of powerwalking and no snacking (partly due to lack of baking which is really - hope to get to state of enlightement where I can bake without gobbling up several slices afterwards)
put away ironed shirts from ten days ago

pushmepullyou · 23/02/2010 09:59

Morning all

I have about 1 hr 30 before I have to leave for work so need to catch up badly! Sooo.. a proper list for today, and hoping it's doable in that time, although I am very dubious!

Online banking
Check work email
Hoover upstairs
Put big box in car
tidy bedroom
Put away clean clothes
Tidy DD room
Hoover main stairs
Tidy living room
Hoover living room
Put washing machine on
Put dishwasher on
Empty bins * 5

Oh well fingers crossed, it might be OK

feetheart · 23/02/2010 11:20

Thanks for birthday wishes for DD/DH
For those who wanted to know DH got a kite from DC and 3 months membership of tennis club from me - he used to play a lot and had a go at getting back into it last year, hopefully this will help - he is VERY pleased

MrsDinky - glad Beavers went well, DD due to start Brownies next week (I failed to get her into Rainbows so DS on waiting list for Beavers now although he is only 4!!)
Am bit concerned about late night as DD needs her sleep but I'm sure she will LOVE it. Has alrady asked when they go camping

swanriver - salmon recipe is the easiest thing ever. Put salmon (I use 1 fillet for 2 children and 1 each for the adults) in dish with some lemon juice and butter, cover and cook for approx 20 mins in oven. Whilst that is on cook as much spaghetti as you need. When salmon is cooked flake it into the nice lemony buttery juices and stir the lot into the spaghetti. DD likes it served with carrots. 4 clean plates last night which is rare so rates highly in this house

List today is:

  • Morning routine
  • 2 minutes hotspot
  • Work - trying but wireless won't let me get onto Sage!
  • 15mins decluttering/tidying in living room which has taken the brunt of DD's birthday present opening
  • Mission - will wash window as at moment haven't got piles of 'stuff' in bedroom
  • Hoover living room, hall, stairs
  • Print off flyers for Pamper Evening this Friday and try not to panic! Have sorted lots of stalls but now need to ensure we get people through the doors
  • Afternoon routine
  • Evening routine
  • Out for dinner with DH
  • Bed by 10.30pm

Need to pick DS up in 15mins so better get on.

elliepac · 23/02/2010 12:12

hello all,

another unscheduled day off here, work say they are ok about it but you never know....

happy birthday to various feethearts, inspired present giving there, i never manage to think of anything more than aftershave or clothes!

mrsdinky ds started beavers about 4 weeks ago and absolutely loves it. he went on a trip to the fire station last night and is really getting into it. am sure your ds will be the same!

mm more than happy to be a back up and to offer my words of wisdom??? as and when necessary. dwm you have done a fabulous job but now deserve a well-earned rest!

now, the positive thing about having been off longer than expected is that mount washmore is nearly gone . just one more load of odds and sods to go. all dc's clothes are put away. ours are in a pile in our room but in order to put them away need to tackle our bedroom but at least i now know where they all are!

list today looks like this:-

washing on3rdload
bank done
general tidy done
morning routine completelydoneforfirsttimeinages!
evening routing
washing away
sweep/mop floors
mission - particularly appropriate today

have just spoken to my cm and she is back next week so hopefully life will calm down soon.

have a good day everyone!

swanriver · 23/02/2010 12:40

Just tackling kitchen here (bit out of zone It is GETTING ME DOWN

have put everything back in cupboards
put odds and sods in right places
taken books back to playroom
tried to stay calm whilst dd (at home today) did some craft and whinged a bit
hung out washing and sorted holiday laundry
took out recycling (only got as far as hall
saucepans away
sink shinyish

now need to do worktops
floors
shelves muddle of jampots, coffee and cups

optimisticmumma · 23/02/2010 17:08

Hi everyone - just got in from work with DS1 DS2 and DS1 GF in car!!
DS1 is very brown and exhausted but pleased I had arranged for Gf to come round for tea. I may get the chance of a proper hug later but for now they are ensconced!
Flying has rather flown for today although i did do morning routine. Will need to tackle the 2 suitcases sitting in the hall later and our bedroom tomorrow.
I can't possibly do the olympic mission as I would have nothing to try to wear iykwim. My weightloss attempts have been hopeless and I can't believe we've done so many weeks!I have got to stop faffing about and get down to it.

Have a lovely evening all...'see' you all tomorrow...

PositiveAttitude · 23/02/2010 17:37

Hi you lot!

Glad the birthdays were good Feetheart - also how is sage going? Just finished a whole lot of tidying up bits and bobs on sage for end of year at one of my jobs. Lovely sense of satisfaction!

OM - Glad you have DS home wiht you again. I ma sur eyour turn for a huggle will come!

Not a lot of flying as a long day at work on Tuesdays. Jus getting house ready and cake baked for housegroup tonight. Lemon drizzle tonight. - cos I dont like it, so wont be tempted.

It is so much eassier now that the house is a whole lot better. IK used to spend all day before the group tidying and sorting, now it is a 10 minute job to do odds and sods, then totally presentable - well in my eyes anyway!

DD2 still very poorly here. Back to Dr today as ABs have done nothing. He thinks it could be glandular fever and sent her for a blood test. Get the results tomorrow hopefully. I ma trying to convince myself I have nothing to fear....not everyone who gets glandular fever goes on to develope severe CFS/ME. BUT this was the trigger for DD3s illness 20 months ago. I will not panic...I will not panic....I will not panic ......YET!!

MMM I will also be back up if you need anyone, but tend not to get on every morning at the moment as life seems to be quite hectic.

RIght off to cook Fajitas (SP??) DS is making me laugh do the yoga on Wii fit. Funny boys noises coming from both ends at the moment and an awful lot of giggling!

See you all later.

droitwichmummy · 23/02/2010 21:55

Hi everyone!

Ploughing my way through DS's school trousers - nearly there

PA - don't worry, don't worry, don't worry!! I'm sure DD2 will be fine but obviously I can totally relate to your fears...Keep up that positive attitude and (((hugs))) to you...

missbennett · 23/02/2010 23:10

Evening all.
Glad you got DS back safe and sound OM. pa hope your DD is OK - sounds horrid and a worry for you. I couldnt resist lemon drizzle - so Iam very if you can!
Happy birthday to feethearts all sorry it's got solatebut hope a good day was had!
Well done ellie on all the washing and swan your kitchen sounds like it's coming along nicely
Waves to everyone else.

Not much from me. Have done all routines and actually got a lot done at work. Off to 2 day training event at the Quaker study centre in Birmingham tomorrow. Apparently it's the once-home of Mr Cadbury so maybe it will all be made of chocolate she said hopefully! Looks nice on the website. And a night when i don't have to do jobs! I know you're supposed to be sociable at these things but I'd rather make the most of the peace Anyway, better get off to bed - early start tomorrow.
Good luck with the links on Thursday MM!

MiniMarmite · 23/02/2010 23:34

Thanks DWM you are a star! Hope your trip goes well. Thanks for your votes of confidence everyone else!

Spurred on by the prospect of a babysitter coming tomorrow (ooh, yes, I am going out) and visitors coming at the weekend I have done quite a bit tonight and restarted the menu planning...I guess that is why it is 23:30!

To bed methinks x

MiniMarmite · 23/02/2010 23:36

Oh and Happy birthday to the Feethearts although I'm so late the day is nearly over!

And thanks Ellie and PA for offers of back-up for next month x

swanriver · 23/02/2010 23:45

Off to bed now,
feeling glad that ds1 project is nearly finished - every project puts a furrow in my brow (and teaches me loads I didn't know
Lucky that my handicraft is 9 year old standard that's all I can say

PA Sometimes I feel worry is just a constant parental state - there is always something - it weighs heavily
fingers crossed about your dd2's illness

Miss Bennett I think a few Quaker principles in my home would be lovely, specially the silences. I don't know if you are the same age as me, but do you remember that bit in Blue Peter where there had the chocolate bar which was sent to all the soldiers in I think the Boer War by Mr Cadbury?

Plan and Play was a bit of misnomer for today, I've slid to the bottom of the snakes and ladders board again, struggling to keep dates written in the diary (got two wrong today already - luckily alerted by friends) let alone do any planning. Meal planning has also gone out the window, a large veg box has arrived - I'm now hoping inspiration will strike. And there's some chilli cooked for tomorrow at least.

droitwichmummy · 24/02/2010 05:44

Good morning DS has had me awake on and off sine about 3 as he didn't want me to be late and now I can't wanke him up

Babystep today is the swish & swipe
More shoe sorting for the mission

Got to fly (see what I did there ) see you tomorrow!

OP posts:
missbennett · 24/02/2010 07:36

Morning!
just about to go - hope everybody has another good day
swan yes I think I do remember I used to love Blue Peter. The Winter Olympics always makes me think, somewhat perturbingly perhaps of John Noakes's bottom - remember when he did the bob sleigh?!
Anyway, fellow flyers, if there's any free chocolate to be had, I'll enjoy it on behalf of you all

MrsDinky · 24/02/2010 08:33

Morning - unexpectedly early start here too, DD has been being sick every half hour or so since 5am. Heard her wake at 5, DH wne through, she went quiet, he came back and went straight to sleep, she cried again a moment later, I went through, she was sitting in a bed coveredin cold sick, how did DH not notice?

That's our plans for the day scuppered, including (shh) my birthday tea. DH has kindly taken DS to school so I can stay home with DD, who is still in bed.

MissB - I remember John Noakes' bottom too, funny the things that stick in your memory!

Shuffles off to load the washing machine with yet more sicky bedclothes.....

EllieAnne · 24/02/2010 08:37

Morning everyone

MrsD How did the gym go? I joined this week, have done 2 classes so far this week which were really hard going and I ache everywhere! Haven't braved the gym induction yet, It's all a bit scary after so long out of it

The fact i've had time to get to the gym twice this week shows that I'm doing well this week- house tidy, dishwasher loaded, even managed a sink shine before I left each eve ds2 & dd1 bathed and and put to bed by dh think that's the first time

Babysteps going well, routines getting a habit now, even added a couple of missions this week too.

Did a menu plan before my online shop and it was so much easier to shop! And much less thinking each day

I have even found i've had more time to spend with the dc's the last week aswell as having a more organised house. Even managed to keep off the computer as much

PA Hope DD is ok, thinking of you today.

swan Worrying really is a permanent state of mind once you're a parent, there is always something.

optimisticmumma · 24/02/2010 08:48

Morning ladies! Wishing you both successful trips DWM and MissB.
Why are husbands so immune to DC 'stuff'? How can they not notice sick? I think they do but let us discover it so we'll clear it up!!
Have a lovely birthday if you can MrsD and with a bit of luck DD will perk up as the day goes on!
I have had a mixed morning too, DD gone to school but looking like a wet weekend, DS2 gone but can I get DS1 to wake up? NO!!!
To be fair he probably went for at least 30 hours with no sleep and a 4 hour time difference but even so he really ought to be in school. On the other hand he only has 2 lessons today so....

So far today:
DW unloaded
WM on
Kitchen rescued

To do:
Book car MOT
Book Dr appointment
Declutter master bed (i love that phrase it always sounds so much grander than it is)
Tescos (need a kick for this one)

Keep washing machine and drier in constant use all day!
Ironing

Rescue DD room

Have a good day all and hope all the poorlies feel better soon. x

PositiveAttitude · 24/02/2010 09:27

Morning Ladies,

Sounds as if everyone is busy today.

MrsD - Happy birthday, Hope DD gets over this bug quickly, so that your special day is not spent mopping up sick and loading the washing machine.

I am at MrsD and MissB even noticing something like John Noakes' bottom. I must have been such an innocent child.......I remember the sticky back plastic, pancakes and thunderbirds models. - or was I just boring?

MissB - So, are you Quaker?, If you dont mind me asking?
Hope you have a good day.

So plan for today:
Work til lunchtime
Shopping on way home
Collect DD3 from education unit
Get blood results for DD2
Should tackle my bedroom heap.
Chilli and Lemon Meringue Pie for tea
Evening of taxi-runs for DS, DD4 to clubs
Do cross-stiching while DH is shouting at watching Chelsea play football.

OM - thank you for your calming message (wrong thread I know, but did not want to moan on the other one as well!!) I KNOW what I SHOULD think, it is a bit head vs heart. I am sure it will be fine....... really........ well........ hopefully.

Right, should get stuck into actually doing some work now.
Have a good day everyone.

MrsDinky · 24/02/2010 09:40

To be fair PA it is John Noakes' bruises that stick in the memory, rather than the bottom itself! Thinking of you and DD today. We seem to have lurched from one health scare to another in our family the last 6 months or so but it never gets any less worrying.

DH presented me with a slowcooker cook book just before going to work, so I am going to have a morning on the sofa with DD drooling over the recipes. As well as doing the laundry. I have to say, it is becoming a bit of a standing joke in our family that my birthday is always a write off, thinking of changing it to a different day next year .

feetheart · 24/02/2010 10:33

PA Thunderbirds models !!! Ds2 is obsessed by Thunderbirds at moment, perhaps there is an old Blue Peter Annual which tells you how to make them? Anyone have an memory of this? Either you are older or younger than me - I don't remember that

Back from short but energising swim,
going to leave house in messy state and just do piano [hurrah]rather than procrastinate over it and then run out of time. Feel wonderful exercise is the answer to every bleughy emoticon

well done on all your jobs OM
