Welcome one and all!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on February 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Welcome back HAG and Neenook.

I am ready and raring to go!

droitwichmummy · 01/02/2010 06:37

Hello fruitstick! Good to see you back and thank goodness Mr FS has a new job

Hello SC hag (was wondering where you were MrsGok and neenook.

February is declutter month. WARNING: this link comes with sound (scared the living daylights out of me this morning!)

Today's babystep is all newbies need to do although feel free to do 15 minutes decluttering anywhere you think needs it

For those of you who have been here before (you know who you are) today's mission in here together with the weekly mission.

Have a good day everyone - don't overdo it or you will burn out. Pop back later to let us know how you got on

droitwichmummy · 01/02/2010 06:37

PA you go girl!

OP posts:
missbennett · 01/02/2010 07:58

Morning!

Fortunately, the sound appears to be turned off my laptop and I don't know how to remedy that!

Bit hectic this am as will have to get train and therefore walk to station so must leave in next 10 minutes!

I've done:
-morning routines
-one load out of dryer and next load in
-packed work bag.....

So this evening I must
-do mission
-another load of washing
-15 minutes decluttering in the fullofcrap dining room
-evening routines

Have a good day everybody. See you later!

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 01/02/2010 08:21

Morning Fabulous Fledgling Flyers ,

Thanks for posting the links Mummy. DC3 who was watching mummy jumped out of his skin and gave a little 'eek' and ran away

I will still be following babysteps to try and get them more estalished.

Already done the mission . Did that when I did the shelves in the hall on Saturday. Washed the mat and everything.

Have done my morning routine and will be heading out the door in aminute when the washing is finished.

Have a good day everyone.

StillCounting · 01/02/2010 08:25

Morning fellow Fledglings

Thanks for steps and links Mummy - hope you had a good w/e

Sorry about huge gap in my post below. Don't understand it - it just seems to happen when I use that particular key ie "§"-wierd....

A warm welcome to Cilitbang (love the name!!) and to Rodillagrande

Flaps wings at PA Optimistic MrsDinky MrsGok WhereChaos MiniM 1981 it'shappenedagain and anyone I have missed - have we lost Ellie??? HOpe not!

Yay; tis brilliant you are back Fruitstick Neenook and HavingAG (we're not groaning, it's great to "see" you all)!!

Yes, congrats on your dh's new job Fruitstick - hope it all goes well for him today

Hello to Lulabell and Tallululahbelle I take it you are you one and the same person? Just checking!! (pedantic emoticon)

Had a very and shouty morning I'm afraid Dh and dd had a great weekend while I was recuperating (skating and sledging and cooking) but have managed to wreck entire house in the process. No homework or washing of uniforms or kit was done either (until I panicked last night). Fair enough but is it that hard to change a loo roll, empty the kitchen bin and pick Playmobil up off the carpet??? And now I feel guilty because dh did do the lion's share of the childcare .... ...not a good way to start the morning...

Anyone, enough of this negativity ....just administer me with a sharp kick up the bum would you please PA???

Today

Before work:
Shine sink done
Eat healthy breakfast done
Morning routine including dw & wm on, s&s, pick up Playmobil off the sitting room floor done
General shouty tidy round done (but at least everyone left early and/or on time )

After work:
Clean out gps
Recycling
Tidy master bedroom
15 mins decluttering in home office
French study
Bank
Quick supermarket shop
Sort out laundry
Afternoon/evening routine
Admin/peer at calendar/make appts
Power walk!

Is this the week some of us are making an extra effort with our home offices?

Right, I'm off, have a good start to the month everyone. DETERMINED to make DECLUTTERING progress during Februrary!!! Here's praying for a reasonably light day in the office ....

StillCounting · 01/02/2010 08:29

aagh - I'm sorry - I missed you out there MissBennett - have a good day

And now gap has disappeared????

Oh dear, left today's mission off my list and it's already quite a long one ....sigh ... three steps forward, one step back ....

StillCounting · 01/02/2010 08:31

Oh and if you are following body-clutter steps ...

remember to try and have a bit of a walk today!!

Right, I really am off now [harrumph, mutter, grumble]

havingagiraffe · 01/02/2010 08:55

As ever I am in awe of those of you who are already out of the house. We have made slow progress today as DS cries every time I put him down. It's going to be one of those days, I'm already dreading getting changed for swimming.

Anyway as sc said, enough negativity. I have done the following, even though it's taken nearly 2hours!

Dressed
made bed
fed ds
cleaned bathroom

still to do today

clean downstairs bathroom
clean kitchen
Hoover upstairs
do mission
take ds swimming
express milk
possibly iron this evening

phew!

TALLULAHBELLE · 01/02/2010 09:31

Hi - StillCounting Nup I'm just Tallulahbelle. But hi to Lulabell [waves]

MrsDinky · 01/02/2010 09:46

Morning everyone,

Pleased to say that both my DCs birthday parties are now over for this year, I am not a very enthusiastic party giver, they fill me with dread and fear but usually turn out OK. Welcome to all the new people (and hello to everyone else).

Yesterday I had a good blitz on tidying the front room and kitchen, so I am going to attempt home blessing hour today, with emphasis on the hall and bedrooms. I did my menu planning last night so it is shopping day too (Mon is the only day when both DCs are out for the full school day).

Here goes

Washing
Kitchen floor
Bathroom floor
Swish and swipe - done
Clear breakfast dishes
Tidy and hoover hall, wipe front door down
15 mins on each bedroom
Sainsburys shopping

Mmmango · 01/02/2010 09:47

Morning all, welcome newbies and welcome back people who're starting again.

I'm having a bit of an upside down, wobbly start to the month - had forgotten about baby's jabs which were 3 weeks overdue so took her this morning and was told off by the nurse . She was fine at the time, barely cried, but has been out of sorts this afternoon.

All of which means that I've just finished the morning routine (s+s) now, and haven't started weekly home blitz, which I was hoping to make a good start on. Sink is full of bleach water and will have a proper clean in a minute, while waiting for it to soak have got the day's mission done.

Still to do:
15 minutes decluttering in entranceway
sink shining
some computer stuff
start blitz (but probably not today, now)

You'll all be pleased to hear that the deadline for that course was today, and I submitted all documents including CV yesterday (online application), so I'll stop boring you with it now It wasn't finished till yesterday, but wasn't a total stress-fest either... I still need to work on not procrastinating over computer stuff. The internet is my downfall, so many ways to waste time.

Hope everyone's having a good day

ln1981 · 01/02/2010 10:10

Hi everybody, hope you are all doing good this morning. its such a lovely morning here, though with a wee nip in the air, still at least there is no snow for me!!

done so far-
morning routine
load of washing
washing outside (it wont dry but it wills mell lovely when it comes in!)
last nights ironing put away

to do-
todays mission
15min declutter-hall cupboard
shine sink

a pretty quiet day today then just what you need to start the week!

Hope to catch you all later! Have a lovely day.

fruitstick · 01/02/2010 10:23

I'm in the swing of things. DS2 is at childminders all day so I have a list of things to get done for the day - none of them include Mumsnet

Morning routine - done
phonecalles - done

still have to do

  • Supermarket
  • go swimming
  • bank paperwork
  • mop floors
  • put washing load on
  • put washing away
  • a couple of hours of work.

Will be back later but if you see me on any other threads - kick me off.

still counting have ordered the body cluttered book and will be joining you in your steps as soon as I've had time to sit down and read them. Is there another thread or is it all on this one?

pushmepullyou · 01/02/2010 10:31

Morning Fab Feb ladies!

At work so a quick one from me! Nice to see so many old and new faces .

So far morning routines and unstack/restack dishwasher are done!

Still to do today:

Paid work
5 min room rescue of living room
Mop kitchen floor
Clean bathroom

fruitstick · 01/02/2010 10:32

I am listening to Flylady's speech. I am disappointed - I wanted her to be a bit more perky!

Can I just say I'm sceptical of her theory that if you give something away when you need it it will 'just appear'

havingagiraffe · 01/02/2010 10:46

I'm procratinating because I can't face my kitchen! HELP.......

.......also DS still isn't really happy for me to get on without him.

pushmepullyou · 01/02/2010 10:57

HAG How about staring with a quick sink shine and taking it from there?

Lulabell · 01/02/2010 11:04

Morning all!
Hi TALLULAHBELLE
(sorry StillCounting, we're definitely different )

I'm having an embarassingly lazy morning so haven't even managed to get dressed yet

Will do that now, then it's:

huge pile of weekend washing up - again
keep sink shiny
quickly over the bathroom
hot spotting the study/spare room - that'll need about a year's worth of hot spots (might do a 15min declutter instead)
iron bedlinen
make shopping list
take out bins

I'm only on babystep 6 so there's not that much. Does anyone bother with all the "write it down" type ones? I've just ignored them

Just spotted the body declutter, super, except I just ate four slices of toast for breakfast... I'll have to work on it, and find my pedometer

Neenook · 01/02/2010 13:02

Hi everyone!
I'm going back to babysteps in an effort to get them more 'entrenched'. Love the effect they have on my home when I do them but at the mo they slip all to easily.
Today so far I have done...nothing
Will get off mumsnet backside now and tackle the following:
Shine sink
Change beds
Get to grips with washing mountain
Home blitz (a bit)
Tonight I will get DCs school stuff ready for the morning and do some lesson planning.
Will report back later!

PositiveAttitude · 01/02/2010 14:09

Hi to everyone.

Hope you are feeling better SC. Yep, here too DH and DCs are totally oblivious to toilet rolls and they also pile stuff in the bin until the bin fairy comes and puts an empty one in its place. I have given up even attempting to get anyone else to do it anymore and just consider it my job. Although I have told DH this morning that I will be removing all toilet roll from the house if he does not replace my kitchen light bulb that he was supposed to do about a month before Christmas. I wonder how long it will take now?

At work at the moment, so quick post. I want to ask some advice. ..... Will you promise not to laugh????? How do I get rid of pigeons? A family have decided to make a habit of sitting on our sky dish bracket. Not too much of a problem, but the buggers interfer with the satelite signal, so, whenever the tv goes funny I have to keep running outside with a broom to shove it up the pigeons bum gently tease it off! - I can hear some giggles from you. I said no laughing!!!! Anyway, I am in serious danger of neighbours thinking I ahve totally lost the plot again. Any suggestions???

Very productive morning before work today. I managed to sort out all our throws on sofas in back and front lounge - Big job, believe me!
Unloaded and loaded Dishwasher
S&S x3
Kitchen clean
Made beds
Loaded Tumble dryer
Sorted 3 loads of washing from yesterday.
Sandwiches x7

After work need to:
Cook tea for us + 3
Sweep lounge floor
Hoover hallway (or see if DS is obliging tonight?)

Have a good day all. I haven't clicked the fat fairy link yet, as I don't want all my work colleagues to hear whatever she has to say. I will do this when I get home.

havingagiraffe · 01/02/2010 15:23

pmpy A quick sink shine was an excellent idea but I did get my bum in gear in the end- thank goodness as DS soon woke up and started being clingy again.

I've managed quite alot of the list but am knackerwd as have really only been able to get on when he's asleep!

neenook I think I'd better revisit the baby steps again as I didn't even shine my sink (oh the shame)

lulabell Initially I poopooed the writing down stuff but have found it really helpful but I know some don't do it.

PA The only thing I can think of is some kind of noisy thing to scare them. My dad uses CDs on string on his allotment as they shine and catch the wind. Could dh rig something up there?

tibni · 01/02/2010 15:30

Hello all,

Im still flapping along.

I am keeping on top of my routines but not doing so well with decluttering. So that will be my aim this months.

Waves to all

StillCounting · 01/02/2010 15:54

Crikey PA - your s&s x 3 and sandwiches x 7 - listed with such nonchalance - totally put me to shame!!! Why the heck am I complaining???? Hope you are managing to keep the gore at bay chez toi btw.

Feeling on top form now thanks. Lol re: pigeon-bum-sticking (perhaps this could be a new Olympic sport?). Um, I think you need one of these

Neenook - I am repeating baby-steps too - am on my fifth or sixth "tour" I think ....we will prevail ...good luck with the laundry

Tallulahbelle and Lulabell - many apologies for mistakenly morphing you in to one person!!! [twonk emoticon]

Tallulah - hope you have a good start to the month.

Lulabell - I like your style and 6 baby-steps are good!! You can start again with baby step 1 again today if that helps - don't feel you need to catch up - just leap in where we are at. Or carry on at your own pace - whichever suits best. I don't personally bother with all the post-it notes but have found a control journal to be really useful (to keep up with all the stuff that comes later). (Control journal comes up in a future baby-step btw.)

Hello Pushmepullyou!!!!! ARe you up for the home office challenge this week or this month? I think you were up for it too Mummy weren't you?

How's your kitchen HAG?

Fruitstick - In keeping with Flying principles (ie simple and succinct) we decided to keep body clutter steps on this thread only. We all suggested steps and I am posting one per week on a Sunday evening. Hope that makes sense! Feel free to add in your own suggestions/steps as and when ....I'll be interested to hear what you think of the body clutter book. I was a bit disappointed in it tbh as it repeats a lot of the Flylady bumph and is written in the "unique" Fat Fairy style ie curiously structured - while managing to be prescriptive and vague at the same time¨ . And most disappointly, there aren't many concrete body clutter steps to follow.

Yo to 1981 (glad you are having a gentle start to the month) and Mmango (sorry, I think I managed to miss the vital bit in previous thread - what are you going to be studying?)

Hi MrsD - your parties are certainly concentrated at the beginning of the year aren't they - well done for surviving them! Meant to say earlier (still catching up with previous thread) well done on your weight loss!!

Well done to you too Mini-M - I am duly inspired by both of you (and not forgetting you either PA)

Well done for going to the gym tibni btw. Hope this isn't sacriligeous in Fat Fairy terms but tbh I think it makes sense to prioritise exercising over housework. (Ok, ok, I know I prioritise EVERYTHING over housework ) BUT if you are feeling fit and well and bursting with energy, surely the chores will get done that much faster.

Feetheart - just caught up with the origins of your nickname - ahh- that's such a lovely story!!!

See you all later everyone. Not through a half of my list yet ....

StillCounting · 01/02/2010 15:55

x posts HavingAG - well done - and hope you get some "me time" later on (hate that phrase but you know what I mean)

Flaps wings at everyone else ...
