I want to do a feature wall with this William Morris paper.

What colour paint would you put on the other walls?

I like colour!

The pale sage green that matches the lighter leaves or perhaps the pale rosy pink of strawberry seeds either will be better than white or off white

Shetlands · 12/03/2025 09:35

I'd have to pick one of the colours in the wallpaper and go with that. You have quite a choice there in two shades of green and two of terracotta as well as the dark blue.

Chunkilumptious · 12/03/2025 09:35

What's the light like in the room?

MoodEnhancer · 12/03/2025 09:37

Are you sure about having a feature wall? I really dislike them so it’s personal choice, but I think they look a bit tacky. If you love that print, would you consider instead getting curtains in that material and then painting all the walls? As for colour, a lighter green to match the lighter coloured leaves in the pattern would look fab.

Ineffable23 · 12/03/2025 09:38

I have a room in Soft Fauna 4 which might be a similar colour to the leaves I think?

I love this colour, it's a really soothing relatively pale blueish green/greenish blue (but not one that's only just not white).

I agree, can you just do the whole room?

Chuchoter · 12/03/2025 09:40

Feature walls are dreadful. Why not do the bottom half of the room in this wallpaper and paint the top half instead?

Go for a pale green or a pale pink or peach that matches the flowers.

This would be my choice too rather than a feature wall.

CarrieOnComplaining · 12/03/2025 09:54

I would do the dark blue, so that the colours in the paper sort of emerge out of that.

Or do the whole room, which I know will be expensive.

treesandsun · 12/03/2025 10:12

Did she ask what are people's opinions on feature walls? I can't see that anywhere?
How big is the room - what will the room be used for? I would probably go for one of the lighter colours from the paper but have seen some beautiful small rooms which have used dark colours. Dulux ( I think ) have an app where you can pick a colour and use your wall to see what it would look like.

FurzeNotGorse · 12/03/2025 10:16

Feature walls seldom work. Do the whole room if you can afford it.

Ooh, that's nice, thanks :)

Yes I'm sure!

I love the wall paper but at £60 a roll, no, I'm not doing the whole room.

And anyway, it's too busy for a whole room IMO.

I am entirely interested in whether other people think it's tacky. I love it, tacky or not!

How rude all those telling you what they think about the feature wall you’re going to have - that’s not what you asked!

I would pick out the pale teal colours if for a living room but the peachy colours for a bedroom

I agree with this.

First choice do the whole room.

Second choice match as close as possible to the dark blue background in the wallpaper then it'll be less featurewall-ey...

If you do a lighter colour then it's going to look a bit haphazard and like you couldn't commit to the whole room.

FabuIous · 12/03/2025 10:48

I think the darker green.

finallydecorating · 12/03/2025 12:24

It's for a dining room that gets used for working from home during the day.

It has a bay window, gets a reasonable amount of light, although not direct sunlight for most of the day.

The room is about 11' (into the bay) by 10.5'.

Yes I agree darker - or more vivid - colours would be better than pale.

I've done a few mock-ups, one minute....

I would go for the darker blue that’s in the background. Feature walls aren’t tacky. Much prefer a feature wall than all these horrible wooden panelling things about at the moment that just hide damp walls etc.

Gah, that should say "I am entirely uninterested in whether people think it's tacky"

Here are 3 mock-ups in navy, sage and green. What do people think?

3 more to come, one sec...

None of those colours. But my first choice would probably be a shade if dark green, that way it won't look like you've just run out of paper and painted the rest of the walls to match the background.
Dark blue could work but it would need to be a complimentary t one, slightly muted, not an exact match to the background in my opinion.
A lot depends on the kind of vibe you are aiming to create and how you want to finish the room, the feel, look, what kid if window treatments, lighting etc

dairydebris · 12/03/2025 12:38

Absolutely 100% the navy blue. Wallpaper stands out beautifully. You don't need a strong colour to go with it, you need the wallpaper to take all the glory.

Tatemoderndrawyourown · 12/03/2025 12:43

None of those colours work for me.
I have WM features in my home, they are very much ‘in your face’ (and beautiful), you need something soothing, not another punch.
