Half way through a long, messy renovation and feeling a bit disheartened.

What gorgeous things could I use to decorate/kit out my newly improved home when it's finished - approx a million weeks from now?

Money is no object massive lie

Two of these for the hall sideboard

lamp

Also a sideboard for the hall- which I can't immediately find. After months of choosing we ended up picking one which we found open in a browser window from our first evening of shopping. Sigh.

Ohhh forgot my splurge on 1000 thread count bedding. Why has it taken me so long to realise how lovely decent bedding actually is?

radicalrage · 29/04/2017 23:46

Also thanks to @Bluntness100 - I have just found the made to measure curtains I was quoted £1450 for in John Lewis for £671. The exact same fabric. Wasn't until you mentioned venture fabric in a post that it dawned on me if could find it elsewhere. So I may get the curtains I liked after all!

(Sounds expensive and it is but is a big bay window).

I love your room too Kenneth

Also, not sure this is the point of your original question, however what has caused me to pause and think and perhaps helped change my mind from coveting what is current(ish) to appreciating what I have is this; quality! We selected our fabrics carefully and they were not cheap. 10 years and 3 children later we have neither time nor money to go cushion shopping (sobs from me and relief from DH) and yet I do look at our curtains and cushions and believe that they are standing the test of time (and being pummelled) due to the quality of the fabrics and make, plus they are unique rather than high street fashion. If only our budget allowed us to do the same for other rooms now! Enjoy!!

Radical, John Lewis quoted me £3k for curtain for 3 windows...

I bought the same fabric and got someone to make them for me and it was quite a bit less (under £2k iirc)

MinisWin · 29/04/2017 23:49

A sofa.com Descartes plain sofa... it is LOVELY.

RickOShay · 29/04/2017 23:51

It is pleasing me greatly.

Those plates. I don't need them but I NEED them. Time to show them to my BFF so she can validate my purchase and I can blame her Grin

I was going to brag about the pretty jars with little tiny lights in I got from poundland but everything's so posh!

EnidButton · 30/04/2017 00:34

Thank you Harry Smile That's really useful.

Terrible photo but my lovely new table bought a couple of days ago from charity shop £25.

I have stereo envy.

A selection of Portuguese tiles for the splashback in our new kitchen and a chair that I fell in love with, not a great picture of it as I cropped it from the kids easter Sunday egg hunt photos! Blush

A better picture of the chair but it's nicer in the flesh.

KenDodds I have one of those lamp shades. It's beautiful.

silkpyjamasallday · 30/04/2017 09:45

I recently got a beautiful marbled paper lampshade from Rosi de Ruig it is so beautiful, now I am toying with the idea of an unnecessary lamp in the hall so I can get another of her shades!

Ooh and I got an essential oil vapour diffuser thing for the house, it has a light which can be any colour of the rainbow (I stick to creamy yellow to be fair) and best of all turns itself off when it runs out of water. I got one that doesn't look all modern and Japanese and went for a pierced brushed metal one that doesn't look incongruous with antique furniture.

I had to curb my scented candle habit when in a sleep deprived state I forgot to blow it out when we went to bed and came down with dd in the morning and it was still going Blushscary dangerous and a terrible waste of an expensive luxury.

Essential oils are quite cheap, and you can mix your own scent and adjust the potency of it. Really easy to copy the smell of a jo Malone candle or a perfume you like as they list the 'notes' and you can just buy the corresponding oils and mix.

@sistersofpercy my DB is a huge Star Wars fan and I am constantly on the hunt for 'grown up' Star Wars related stuff, those prints of tatooine and Endor are amazing do you mind me asking where they are from? Perfect birthday present idea, although a similar lamp would work too so you have sorted me for Christmas and birthday potentially!
