Wherever it was, what's the most posh, luxurious, ostentatious, etc hotel you have ever stayed in? Was it worth the cost?

Four Seasons New York. For my 30th - which was two decades ago and pre DD
It was ace - we were in NY but had the last night of our trip there (couldn't afford more than that) but we had a room with a view over central park, and a fabulous bathroom with a tub the size of a small pool, with a telly in it, which filled up in 60 seconds thanks to a tap like a waterfall.
no gin in the mini bar though, so lost points for that. I complained about that (well expressed my disappointment) so it was noted and apparently if we ever make it back there will be gin in the mini bar!!

A suite at the Eastern and Oriental, Penang. It's the sister hotel to Raffles. It had just reopened after years of renovation and they had ridiculous soft opening deals. This two bedroom and a lounge suite cost us not much more than a family room at a Novotel back then!

Our kids were around 9 and 11 and couldn't believe their surroundings, as that we had a butler! I don't think they've ever got over it!

Sandy Lane Barbados - OMG the sheets were amazing (all of it was fantastic but honestly, they were beautiful).

Spent 3 months living at the Lausanne Palace for work, that was pretty fabulous.

Shangri-la Villingil Maldives. We stayed two weeks in a water villa. We were lucky enough to get a ‘soft opening’ deal. Everything was amazing, apart from the eye watering prices on the wine list!

Giraffe Manor, Nairobi. Just heaven.
Service perfect, suite beautiful. The giraffes were truly the stars though.

I’ve stayed at both the Hotel Arts and the W in Barcelona. Lovely hotels obviously but the locations are a bit rubbish despite the sea views. I quite like using taxi’s ( never do at home) but prefer to be able to nip out and wander round.

The Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi. An amazing 7 days (got a great deal as I worked in travel at the time). Had our own butler, food was incredible and my son loved the pools and FIFA standard football pitch.

The Waldorf in New York.
The public areas were fabulous but our room was bog standard 😂

Interesting thread, I’d love to stay atThe Mark in NYC and The Merrion in Dublin

I loved Barnsley House in the cotswolds
Le Manoir is amazing
The Pulitzer in Amsterdam is fabulous
The Clarence in Dublin was great when it first opened, probably isn’t now

San Clemente, Kempinski Palace Venice....

It's on its own island in the lagoon. The speedboat taxis to st marks square are included and run all day and evening.

It was incredible.

I went through work though so didn't pay
