Wherever it was, what's the most posh, luxurious, ostentatious, etc hotel you have ever stayed in? Was it worth the cost?

Macdonald in Bath - they offered us a butler. I don’t know what it cost, but only the indoor/outdoor heated pool was memorable.

Kempskini in Berlin was fab.
Atlantis the Palm in Dubai was the most blingy hotel I’ve stayed in.
Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town.

Fonab Castle in Perthshire. Absolutely wonderful place.

Raffles Hotel in Singapore.

The W in Singapore. I wasn't paying (work trip) but it was amazing.

The poshest hotel I've ever paid for was the TRS Yucatan in Mexico. Worth every penny.

Verite1 · 12/01/2022 14:38

Conrad Hilton Maldives. Forever spoilt us for other hotels Grin

BlowDryRat · 12/01/2022 14:38

Luton Hoo was also gorgeous and I'd definitely stay again.

Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong in 2002. I wasn't paying, the client was. My benchmark for posh hotels ever since, it was utterly lovely.

Waspie · 12/01/2022 14:41

The Royal Livingstone in Zambia. We had a butler!

Not sure what it cost - it was part of a tour around Southern Africa. Not expensive by British 5 star standards though.

Bunce1 · 12/01/2022 14:43

The Dream Inn Santa Cruz.

Essex House in NY. We went for 5 nights and everything was perfect, impeccable unobtrusive service.

Gotobloodysleep · 12/01/2022 14:47

The Waldorf Astoria on the bund in Shanghai. It was a couple of nights for our anniversary. Amazing hotel though was gutted as I didn't take my swimming costume

The Newt in Somerset.
Followed by some Namibian wildlife lodges whose names I have shamefully forgotten.

Raffles in Manila

Wolgan valley resort, Blue Mountains, Australia, Cost equivalent of £1000 per night but we didn't pay - it was a competition prize! Utterly beautiful - private plunge pool, one bedroomed lodge with an amazing bathroom, dressing room, verandah.

We usually spend way less than £100 per night on accommodation so this was such an amazing treat.

TinaYouFatLard · 12/01/2022 14:49

Probably the Four Seasons in Nassau. It was beautiful.

gogohm · 12/01/2022 14:52

A few. Stayed in a gorgeous Manor House type hotel in Hertfordshire years ago, that was my first time in a 5 star. An amazing spa resort in Washington state, few 5 stars in London which aren't as luxurious due to space but are opulent. Probably the most though was In Colombo Sri Lanka, a French patisserie in the lobby and hand made chocolates on the pillow! The staff were too attentive though, kept wanting to help me, get me a driver etc when I said I was going out alone - actually they have UBERTut was brilliant

The Shangri-La in Singapore on a two-day layover. They gave me only the second room upgrade I’ve ever had in my life - I nearly wept when I opened the door. Living room, bedroom, beautiful balcony, and just gorgeous linens, decor, chocolates, fruit every day - it was bliss.

Linden Hall near Morpeth. We hot a free weekend with reward points, 2 nights donner, b&b. My menu for dinner had no prices, so had to look at dh's. A long time ago.

LaBellina · 12/01/2022 15:00

The local Premier Inn. It was fab.

Just kidding. My favorite would be Hotel Ernst in Cologne, Germany. Great location and very chic.

EileenGC · 12/01/2022 15:01

The Ritz-Carlton in Osaka. Not paid by me Grin

I was given a ‘basic’ room and it had 3 double beds Shock More senior colleagues had deluxe suites and it was just another world. Amazing facilities and the most delightful staff.

The Forbury in Reading.
