Wherever it was, what's the most posh, luxurious, ostentatious, etc hotel you have ever stayed in? Was it worth the cost?

Burj in Dubai for pure bling or the Nam Hai in Hoi An, Vietnam.

Franklin12 · 12/01/2022 15:53

Lamb - surely that wasn’t the name of the hotel......

BethDutton · 12/01/2022 15:55

Jabbawasarollingstone I hate that sort of service too but they don’t really do that anymore. Service is still excellent in lots of places but they’ve dropped the stuffy nonsense. I stayed at the Lime Wood Hotel (I think that’s its name, with the Angela Hartnet restaurant) in the New Forest in November and the young receptionist gave me a very cheery “Hi Beth, I’ve got your keys let me show you your room”. Same experience at the Endsleigh Hotel recently.

The sensatori on Negril beach in Jamaica- Exceptional

Frymetothemoon · 12/01/2022 15:59

The Ritz in Madrid
The Cavalieri in Rome - stunning views and the most amazing breakfast I've ever seen

I wasn't paying

I’m liking the sound of the Jamaica hotel.

Oooh great thread, I want to go to all of these!

Mine is the Banyan Tree in Bangkok. They have a 'bath menu' and someone comes up to run you a bath once you've made your selection. It's a skyscraper with an incredible cocktail bar/restaurant on the roof, they have someone playing the harp in the lobby, everywhere you look it's all just stunning and the service was second to none.

Would love to stay at Claridges and Prestonfield in Edinburgh.

Badrutt’s Palace in St. Moritz and The Grove in Hertfordshire
Wasn’t paying as work trips.
Loved the place in St. Moritz, small string orchestra at breakfast included 😅

AdriannaP · 12/01/2022 16:03

Would love love love to stay at a Six Senses in the Maldives or the Four Seasons in Istanbul (had a drink there and was shown some rooms).

Either the Constance Ephelia in the Seychelles or the Heritage Awali in Mauritius. Yes it was worth it, both stunning hotels, gorgeous food and great service.

The Hotel Arts, Barcelona two years after the Barcelona Olympics (for which it was built).
It was stunning and my employer was paying so worth every moment. And the weather was perfect. Smile

Park Lane.
Was a freebie. Free bar. Lovely.

One night in Marina Bay Sands Hotel Singapore
Included use of the roof top swimming pool
Breakfast not included

msc6199 · 12/01/2022 16:12

Marina Bay Sands Singapore for me! It was truly perfect. I would love to stay at the W and Raffles one day too. They remain a dream for now!

JulieGoods · 12/01/2022 16:13

Have stayed at quite a few.

Al Qasr in Dubai was amazing and yes worth the money in my opinion.

Plaza in NYC (Home Alone 2 hotel) always a dream but actually was kind of shabby in our (premium park view) room and in need of a revamp. But we did get quite a good rate so maybe I was expecting it to be better than it was.

Various club levels at the Disney hotels - Grand Floridian Royal Palm club was worth every penny in my opinion. As is (well, was as it's now shut for a full refurb) the Castle Club in the Disneyland Hotel at Paris. I guess they're not quiet as luxurious as some of the more exclusive honeymoon style resorts but I feel the most spoiled at them.

Being welcomed to a hotel by name and taken straight to my room to check in rather than sit at a desk is something I'll never tire of. Which I've so far only had at Disney. But that might not be too unusual for non-Disney resorts as we holiday at Disney resorts more than elsewhere.

Shangri-la at the Shard. City view suite... Was amazing. I particularly liked the view and the Japanese toilet Grin

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 12/01/2022 16:16

Villa d'Este on Lake Como-

Had a suite on our honeymoon-just felt amazing and glamorous-and such a stunning location

HighlandCowbag · 12/01/2022 16:17

I came to say Hotel Arts Barcelona as well. Was a work trip too and I was far too young and silly to appreciate it. Was my first time ever abroad. The next time I abroad was 10 months later on a girls holiday to Ibiza. In San Antonio. Our room was basically a cupboard, the bathroom at Hotel Arts was bigger, in fact one of the two double beds would have been bigger Grin.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 12/01/2022 16:18

OOOh or the Cipriani in Venice- spectacular

Gwenhwyfar · 12/01/2022 16:20

It's many years since I stayed in a very luxurious hotel. I prefer cheap ones. I don't want to spend 5 minutes figuring out how to put the light on.
I remember once I had forgotten a comb, but the combs they sold were extremely expensive so I had to do without for a few days until I could get to the supermarket.

Keladrythesaviour · 12/01/2022 16:21

The Adlon Kempinski in Berlin. Fabulous. They do up the rooms twice a day, heated floor in the bathroom and the most insane breakfasts. We asked for an ironing board from one of the staff and without asking our room or name it was in our room within the hour. I'd love to go back.

MangosteenSoda · 12/01/2022 16:22

A resort on Benguerra Island, off the coast of Mozambique. It had private eco villas with mini pools and individual butlers. Diving, boat trips, sunset picnics and helicopter transfer from the mainland.

I don’t look back on it with happiness though as it was when I first realised I should leave my husband. Took a good while longer until we actually split up though. Hindsight makes me wish that I had seized the day.

Franklin12 · 12/01/2022 16:22

The Banyan Tree Bangkok roof restaurant is staggering however there is no cover that I saw so goodness knows what they did if it rained. You would I guess be brought inside which isn’t the same thing at all!

Onlyrainbows · 12/01/2022 16:28

m.fourseasons.com/puntamita/accommodations/

It was amazing! There was a GMs night with canapes and champagne, sunglasses butler and a few other silly things

Elmrosie · 12/01/2022 16:28

The Four Seasons on Big Island, Hawaii. Absolutely heavenly.
