Had a nasty reaction to deep heat, not sure if I need to go to a&e or GP’s

It’s basically burnt my fingers, I was putting it on DH’s back for him and it suddenly felt like my fingers were burning. I don’t know if it’s an allergic reaction or a burn. DH is fine. I’ve never used it before.

Bless you.

Looks burnt to me

I posted before the photo 🙄

SoreLeg · 19/11/2024 21:45

Take care OP, hope your hand heals well

StormingNorman · 19/11/2024 21:50

Imperrysmum · 19/11/2024 17:51

You were the worst. You told her she wasn’t burnt when she said she was.

My skin gets minor chemical burns/allergic reactions all the time. Probably why I’m so blasé about them but I hadn’t seen the photo when I posted. Literally everybody who said wash your hands and take an antihistamine e was of the same opinion as me.

StormingNorman · 19/11/2024 21:53

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 19/11/2024 20:58

Categorically telling someone that they don’t have a burn when they actually do is more than “tone”. Were you unaware of chemical burns?

I get them myself as I react to most things. Probably why I’m quite relaxed about dealing with them. I hadn’t seen the photo when I posted.

Is it just me you’re going after or are you picking up on everyone who thought OP was having a slight reaction.

I posted before the photo 🙄

But after op posted saying
"It’s basically burnt my fingers"

Isthisonme · 19/11/2024 21:57

Crikey. Hope you're resting up now OP and the pain relief works for you. Looks so so sore

That is what every allergic reaction I’ve ever had feels like…a burn!

Sod off now you’re derailing the thread for what?

Oblomov24 · 19/11/2024 22:01

Bloody hell op, hope you recover quickly.

Soubriquet · 19/11/2024 22:06

Note to self. Avoid deep heat. That looks painful and you’re lucky it’s only a first degree

Bunnycat101 · 19/11/2024 22:15

I hope you’re resting up OP. When I saw the photo I was shocked. I’d never have imagined deep heat could do that to someone. Did they think it was faulty or that you just reacted very badly to it?

FlutteryButterfly · 19/11/2024 22:17

Glad to hear that the Dr's believe no lasting damage @Yourinmyspot , suggest your DH stops using it going forwards too.@roastiepotato, give it a rest, until anyone saw the photo no one knows either way!

CountingDownToSummer · 19/11/2024 22:26

I'm glad you got it seen to op but this thread highlights the issue of asking for medical advice from strangers on the internet.
Most posters, originally thought going to A&E was not appropriate, I thought the same, whereas after you posted a picture it clearly was more than a mild allergic reaction and absolutely required medical attention.
Had you not posted a pic and just went with the original answers your outcome could have been far more serious

You gave baseless, inaccurate advice.
You’re like a dog with a bone now though. Perhaps this level of questioning would have been of more use earlier?

(Not engaging with you further.)

LancashireSquirrel · 19/11/2024 22:37

Gosh OP what an ordeal. I hope you manage to have a restful night sleep and it isn't too painful.

I think it also serves as a lesson to those trying to give medical advice

Give it a rest you are coming across as a complete bully. No idea why you are going after just one poster in this way but it’s deeply unpleasant. Yes they gave the wrong advice. It was not out of malice and before the picture was posted. The only one behaving like a dog with a bone is you and it’s just nasty.

BeMintBee · 20/11/2024 07:11

Glad you’ve been seen now OP. Take it easy for a few days I can imagine you feel quite beat up.

NavyTiger · 20/11/2024 07:43

Morning hope your OK I'm sure it's very painful today keep regular pain relief and hope all goes well at hospital today

DecayingRelic · 20/11/2024 07:43

wow, never knew Deep Heat could do that

Years ago I put some on my aching thighs and DH went to bed naked and lets just say a certain part of his anatomy touched my thigh, he said it REALLY hurt!

Won't ever use it again now

Completely agree with this comment - totally out of order

Mischance · 20/11/2024 08:07

So glad you have had the treatment you need ... hope it heals quickly.
I would steer clear of eating or preparing peppers and chillies as this is the active ingredient in Deep Heat I think.

Mischance · 20/11/2024 08:09

Or maybe not ... looks as though aspirin and menthol are the main active elements. Perhaps avoid aspirin in future!

Efacsen · 20/11/2024 08:28

Is there any kind of warning on Deep Heat products or accompanying literature of this sort of albeit rare but serious side-effect?

Maybe a patch test would be a good idea
