Had a nasty reaction to deep heat, not sure if I need to go to a&e or GP’s

It’s basically burnt my fingers, I was putting it on DH’s back for him and it suddenly felt like my fingers were burning. I don’t know if it’s an allergic reaction or a burn. DH is fine. I’ve never used it before.

I'm glad you have been seen. Your photo shows partial thickness burns as there is skin loss (formerly a second degree burn), IV antibiotics are not usually indicated at the time of injury).

Ask for your fingers to be dressed separately, not in a mitten glove dressing like they are now.

Plastictrees · 20/11/2024 08:53

My DH loves Deep Heat, I am terrified of it now! I hope you’re feeling better this morning OP. What a horrible experience.

Give it a rest you are coming across as a complete bully. No idea why you are going after just one poster in this way but it’s deeply unpleasant. Yes they gave the wrong advice. It was not out of malice and before the picture was posted. The only one behaving like a dog with a bone is you and it’s just nasty.

The ‘don’t bother a&e, it’s nothing’ posters on here are irresponsible and so very quick to dismiss posters’ genuine worry and confusion.

I queried one of these responses, and the poster has kept coming back with “wasn’t only me” etc which I have replied to. Then said I wouldn’t be replying further as it was pointless.

“Bully”, my arse.

Repeatedly accusing me of being a "bully" and now "bitchy". A little ironic surely?

I certainly will not be going anywhere near the stuff again and it won’t be coming in the house. My fingers are individually dressed under the bigger bandage someone mentioned it upthread. It’s very sore still, painkillers do take the edge off. Just feel drained today. Back to hospital this afternoon for them to check it again, can’t say I’m looking forwards to it.

You gave baseless, inaccurate advice.
You’re like a dog with a bone now though. Perhaps this level of questioning would have been of more use earlier?

(Not engaging with you further.)

A dog with a bone? I’m only reply to posts directed at me by you and one other who won’t give it a rest 😂

whatthedickens5 · 20/11/2024 13:52

Bless you. It looked so very sore and hope the appointment this afternoon goes well. Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery my lovely xx

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 20/11/2024 15:33

Ouch! Best of luck at your appointment today x

Yourinmyspot · 20/11/2024 17:10

I’ve been to my appointment turns out they are second degree burns I got muddled up yesterday, but they said they should heal up okay. They re dressed them which wasn’t pleasant, I’ve got to go back on Friday and they have signed me off work, hopefully I can go back before too long.

Plastictrees · 20/11/2024 17:14

I did think they looked like 2nd degree burns. Traumatic! I hope you can have a restful few days and try to recover.

Yourinmyspot · 20/11/2024 17:30

Thank you to everyone for the advice and support I know it was all well meant. I’ve got cosy on the sofa re watching Motherland.

I hope your OK. This stuff is best put on with cloth thin gloves..
I remember putting some cream called firey jack.. On my mams shoulders.. She said wash your hands. I did then decided to wash my face. 1 minute later I was crying with pain. My face was bright red.. All I got was everyone in the family laughing. I laughed afterwards..

LILLYPRINT · 20/11/2024 18:51

I often have to rub this on my husbands back. I always use on of the thin surgical gloves to do it. I don't have a reaction to it but found even after washing my hands i could still smell it. Even after using the glove i wash my hands with Washing up liquid which works a treat.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 20/11/2024 18:51

Ouch

Throw the tube of deep heat away, DH's suffering is never gonna match 2nd degree burns.

EmeraldRoulette · 20/11/2024 18:58

@Yourinmyspot glad you're okay

did they explain how this happened? Have you used or applied it before?

They said it can happen sometimes didn’t really explain why, I know I’m allergic to ibuprofen and diclofenac so I avoid all that family of drugs. I’ve never touched deep heat before and it’s banned from the house now.

That looks incredibly painful.

This was my leg after using Deep Heat spray a few years ago. This was after an A&E visit where several blisters were burst

That looks horrendous and very sore, I hope you recovered okay.

Bloody hell, that’s it I’m getting rid of it all. Never thought it did much good anyway. Hope you recovered fully.

kitteninabasket · 20/11/2024 22:10

That looks so sore OP, your poor fingers. I'm glad you went to A&E and were treated relatively quickly.

Years ago I had what I now know was a partial thickness burn on the back of my hand. It started with small-ish blisters and I watched them grow to the size of grapes. I wasn't sure what to do so I rang 111 and they told me to go to a pharmacy. The pharmacist stuck a bandage over it Confused it fell off about an hour later so I re-dressed it myself with gauze pads and wrapped it in a bandage. I spent the next few days guarding my hand like it was a faberge egg. Inevitably I managed to knock it a few days later and the blisters burst. I screamed. I think I was very lucky it didn't get infected, but it did leave several nasty scars.

I wonder if there's a link. Look after yourself, what a nasty shock. Take care 💐
