It’s basically burnt my fingers, I was putting it on DH’s back for him and it suddenly felt like my fingers were burning. I don’t know if it’s an allergic reaction or a burn. DH is fine. I’ve never used it before.

Really glad you've gone to the hospital

QuantumPanic · 19/11/2024 16:45

Wow. I'm another one who thought, "some people have no sense of proportion" and then jumped to, "how is OP going to cope with a fully bandaged hand??" as soon as I saw the photo.

I fully rescind my previous, uncharitable thoughts - turns out OP is actually incredibly stoic and way less prone to panic than I'd be in the same situation. Hope it's not too painful. 😖

Duc · 19/11/2024 16:48

Crikey that’s far worse than we all imagined. You poor bugger, hope you get it sorted soon

Maddy70 · 19/11/2024 16:58

MarvelJesus · 19/11/2024 16:03

Have you seen the photo? It’s going to take more than an ice pack and a Piriton to sort that out!

I did after i posted. Definitely needs medical attention !

Frozensnow · 19/11/2024 16:59

That looks so sore OP. I hope you get seen asap

MounjaroUser · 19/11/2024 17:00

That's a terrible reaction! It looks incredibly sore. I hope you get some help at A&E.

NavyTiger · 19/11/2024 17:00

Ouch

SingingSands · 19/11/2024 17:02

I can't use deep heat either.

I think it is designed to sort of do this anyway and our own pain thresholds and skin sensitivities can impact its effect on us.

If I use deep heat it's never on me and I always use a cotton wool pad to apply it on the victim!

3luckystars · 19/11/2024 17:03

Ouch. I hope you will be seen quickly at A and E. That’s awful x

whitebreadjamsandwich · 19/11/2024 17:06

Oh bloody hell OP, that's going to be so fucking sore, you poor thing. Hope you're seen soon

I would, alongside a few other topical ointments. I had no idea that it was in so many drugs, cosmetics, foods....

I can’t tolerate aspirin and have a nasty reaction to that, which started the salicylate research for me. It is crazy how much has it in.

lightand · 19/11/2024 17:22

Another Mumsnet case of giving medical advice than can be way off.
Just as well you posted a picture.

Strangely enough there used to be a horse Blister compound- a massive counter irritant
“Reducine” back in the past.
It was a black tarry substance- to be pasted onto a horses’lower legs If sprained or tendon trouble.
people used to be brutal to horses’s legs- Firing them with hot irons to bring blood supply to the area.

Seeing a blister appearing on OP’s hands reminds me of this.

Really hope your hands are getting help now.

It’s got worse now and has taken the skin off my fingers I think I need to see someone.

You were saying, @StormingNorman?

That looks raw. You need to go to a minor injuries unit to get it dressed. You must have an allergy to it.

caringcarer · 19/11/2024 17:33

You could loosely wrap cling film around it then go to minor injuries to get it dressed.

TheShellBeach · 19/11/2024 17:34

It must be very painful!

socks1107 · 19/11/2024 17:36

That's looks really sore. Hope it's quick in A and E

Plastictrees · 19/11/2024 17:41

Poor you OP, it looks so painful. Hopefully you get seen quickly.

3Ls · 19/11/2024 17:41

Father in law got second degree burns from it. So it is not always a mild reaction

CrowleyKitten · 19/11/2024 17:46

ouch. definitely glad you're getting it looked at.
as for your partners back, I would recommend the roll on over the cream. I find it works better (and it's not really SPICY like the other products, more herbal, but it really warms up on the skin, and gets in further. it's like using a hot water bottle)
so he may find it more effective than the cream, as I do by a long way, but also, if he needs it applied in areas he can't easily reach, you can help him put it on without getting any on your skin, as it's in a roll on, like a deodorant. (and the ingredients are different, so you might not react to that one, but I'd not be keen to check)
I would definitely not risk getting the cream on your skin again. that's a nasty reaction.

Was I the only one?

Doyouthinktheyknow · 19/11/2024 17:50

Glad you are going to A&E, that looks like a chemical burn and will need proper dressing! Looks awful!
