What is this virus from hell?

I’m feeling god rough! Body aches, sore throat, back ache from hell, fatigue, dizzy painful head. I need sympathy and reassurance that I’m not alone because I’m a huge wuss. Countless negative Covid tests and I’m still able to shuffle around but want to cry.
had the worst flu over Xmas last year and am so worried I’m going to get that bad again. Started a bit on Saturday, then got hit by a bus yesterday and getting worse!

Just recovering from something similar, half the staff where I work are out. Just horrid.

painkillers and water and sleep, good luck.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/09/2023 19:53

Sounds like covid, took me 4 tests to get a positive, I'm on day 9 now and it's knocked me for six. Hope you feel better soon.

Gfozzy · 27/09/2023 20:02

It’s bloody horrific! Feel like utter crap

GivetheCataBone · 27/09/2023 20:08

I've had it since Monday, tested positive today, still had some tests as I'm nhs.
I was surprised as this feels nothing like the first time I had covid. This feels more like flu, my first dose of covid was 'just' headache and fatigue.

Gfozzy · 27/09/2023 20:08

Definitely not Covid. Done tests from Saturday until today, every day and still negative

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 27/09/2023 20:09

No-one seems to know what the false negative rate for LFTs is for the newer variants.

As covid is rising in UK, and just about every country. Despite much less comprehensive surveillance, the trend is clear. But there is as yet no sign of flu becoming widespread (there is surveillance for that too)

Rest, rest and more rest, and hope it doesn't last too long. Lots of people seem to be laid low for at least 4 or 5 days with this variant.

Gfozzy · 27/09/2023 20:10

@LimeCheesecake how long did it take to recover?

OP posts:
unicornsandchocolate · 27/09/2023 20:21

This is how I'm feeling too. But I had COVID about a month ago so doubt it could be that again could it, even as a new variant? Chills, really achy and a headache that's coming and going. No one else in the household seems to have it.

Gfozzy · 27/09/2023 20:22

@unicornsandchocolate I am currently the only one like this too, 5 year old just has snot, 10 year old a belly ache and I’m flawed!

OP posts:
ladybee2 · 27/09/2023 20:23

Oh I had exactly this last week.
The aching limbs was horrendous.
I tested positive for Covid in the end.
Get lots of rest and wishing you a speedy recovery.

madeinmanc · 27/09/2023 20:24

Covid

Sheraprincessofflower · 27/09/2023 20:32

I’m wondering if this is what I had over the summer holidays. It was so bad that I was sure it must be Covid but did countless tests (clinically vulnerable) and all negative. I was so so so unwell. I’d say I’d never felt so ill but unfortunately for me I had a bad bout of Covid this time last year then that awful flu over Christmas and the summer thing I had was equal to both of them.

Remember - just because Covid is rife doesn’t mean that there aren’t other things doing the rounds. Flu isn’t yet but there will be other seasonal nasties.

Gfozzy · 27/09/2023 20:34

Most definitely this. I’ve had Covid 8 times (last time in may) and had flu so bad last Christmas I ended up in hospital where I then subsequently caught Covid and spent nearly 4 weeks fighting the 2 together hooked up to all sorts of drugs!
This is on par with that to be honest, it’s truly is a gift from lucifer himself

OP posts:
StaunchMomma · 27/09/2023 20:47

I've just had the same. Again, not covid.

It was bloody nasty though! Took me a good 10 days to feel anything like normal.

Newtorunning · 27/09/2023 20:49

Just to say that I tested once 2 weeks ago on a new test and got a positive on the Tuesday. Then I tested multiple times using tests from last year that didn't expire until April 2024 the following day - they were all negative. I bought new tests and came up stonking positive. Basically the test litmus bit had dried up causing the positive covid not to show. There must be loads of people marching about with covid who are in the same boat.

Gfozzy · 27/09/2023 20:51

I get new tests through the NHS so have been testing with the ones sent this week and still negative.
10 days feels very long @StaunchMomma that makes me want to cry even more 😭

I don’t trust LFTs, DH had Covid last week (we needed him to test for a variety of reasons), I felt the same but not as bad and tested negative, felt a bit better so went to meet SIL (tested again before going), now SIL has the same symptoms and a positive LFT 🤷‍♀️

henrysugar12 · 27/09/2023 21:00

I had the same symptoms OP plus vomiting and diarrhoea. LFT all negative. Ten days in and I'm feeling a little better but so tired!

I think I had covid mid-august too.

Okki · 27/09/2023 21:00

I'm just getting over it. Week1 I thought I was getting flu - symptoms as you describe, negative covid. Week 2 horrible cough = chest infection and antibiotics. At the start of week 3 now. Antibiotics finished. Am OK in myself, but still coughing & doc says I could be for a couple more weeks. I haven't had a temperature since midway through week 1.

LakeFlyPie · 27/09/2023 21:06

I had painful inflamed nodes in armpits and general abdo pain which I think was lymph nodes in abdomen last week and have now had splitting headache and sore throat for 24 hours. LFT -ve for Covid so far.

Gfozzy · 27/09/2023 21:09

Yes bowel issues have also been another unpleasant side effect. No vomiting or nausea at the moment. I’ve actually ordered an influenza a&b swab test to see as I am clinically vulnerable and will need tamiflu if it is…
it’s bloody horrible whatever it is and the stomach pain is awful too @LakeFlyPie

OP posts:
AlfredaTheGrape · 27/09/2023 21:19

I had that about a month ago. Main part of it lasted 10 days and it took ages to get my voice back properly. I suspected it was Covid as that is how I felt when I last had Covid but didn't test.

vipersnest1 · 27/09/2023 21:30

I'd say flu. It really can be that bad.

RuthW · 27/09/2023 21:36

It's covid. This strain isn't always showing up on tests.
