I ignore ALL instructors who shout FASTER, unless they are male and cute.

MrsSpoon · 13/02/2006 18:19

Was thinking the same thing MD, most of the machines I was using today were between 3 and 6 kilos.

Cam · 13/02/2006 18:25

No Moondog they do have different gears but the instructor also shouts "higher gears"

Mrs Spoon, we are proper gym users

moondog · 13/02/2006 18:27

Ooooh get Cam!
It's alright Spoon, you can hang out and giggle at the back with me.

MrsSpoon · 13/02/2006 18:28

It's me that's not proper!

MrsSpoon · 13/02/2006 18:29

Well I'm off to do some BodyPumpin' now! [sticking out tongue emoticon]

MABS · 13/02/2006 18:34

Chapsmum, no you are not alone.

chapsmum · 13/02/2006 18:43

MABS really dont want to give the bike up, am booked in for another class tommorow, do you think the wold notice if i sat on a rubber ring????

MABS · 13/02/2006 18:50

I often take a small towel into classe. Use it on shoulders so the bar dosn't hurt in pump, and i've been known to sit on it in Spin!

LadyTophamHatt · 13/02/2006 18:59

Mabs, it's just the local council run gym, it's called "the downs" or something.
It's quite small but it has all the stuff I used to use at my old one just less of it IYSWIM.

( I did see the meet up thread but DH is at work ATM so I can't check his shifts. If he's off that day i'll be there!!)

Passionflower · 13/02/2006 19:58

CT those are heavy weights. As requested have retrieved my record book. Mine are:

Pull down 21kg
Pec fly 14kg
Rear delt 7kg plus block
Leg press 51kg
Hip abductor 40kg
Hip adductor 45kg

Am really liking the pull down, pec fly and rear delt. Have been using them since December and am starting to get a nicely muscled back.

CoolTurkey · 13/02/2006 20:22

Well, the machines go up in 5Kg with a 2.5 Kg lever to get the interemediate weight. The lowest is 5Kg. You are using both arms/legs together so both are lifting at the same time. They tend to start you out at 15KG. which is very easy. I lift more than most women, but I don't think that makes me any stronger - I have watched other women and they don't seem to be pushing themselves. Maybe they don't want to become too butch

I go to a mobile gym in an articulated lorry. It is free which I why I started going in the first place and how i got hooked (well I am a Yorkshire woman). The leg machines are leg extension and leg curl. The arms machines are the chest press and the pull-down.

Lauraa83 · 13/02/2006 20:52

hello

not picking holes or anything just gonna say body attack isn't kick boxing it's just like fast aerobics with running tracks and it's just cardiovascular stuff really that's why I do it with body pump (weights class) cos body attack is supposed to be the biggest calorie burner, around 500 a class I think depending on your age, size etc of course, which burns fat then body pump to tone up muscles. Does anyone else do body pump or body attack on here? I just wondered if it's true that you are supposed to do body pump twice a week if you do it, someone told me that recently but I notice a difference doing it just once? Also used to do body balance (mix of yoga, tai chi and pilates) that was quite good cos it's not that hard work but you get loads stronger and more flexible!

MrsSpoon · 13/02/2006 21:20

Yes I Pump in fact I'm not long back. We had some guest instructors from Australia (where BodyPump was founded) a year or so back and they said two or three times a week to get the best results from BodyPump. I try to go twice a week but more often or not it's only once. When going twice a week it does become much easier but IMO starts to get a bit boring, especially if the instructors are using the same music.

Lauraa83 · 13/02/2006 21:34

I wish I could go more than I do actually MrsSpoon! It's just that dp looks after our ds, well, he usually is just going to bed or in bed when I leave and he moans at that!!! Miserable git

Yeah sometimes the body pump music can get quite boring especially when it's a song that never got into the charts! Love the body attack music though - it's all my most favourite songs!

Anyone done body combat - wondering whether to do it or not (if I'm allowed!) what results do you get from it?

MrsSpoon · 13/02/2006 21:43

Know the feeling, I need DH to be there for the kids if I go in the evening. Fortunately our leisure centre has a fantastic creche which allows me to go during the day but DH works from home and will occasionally give me earache about how much time I spend at the leisure centre, grrrr!

We have Body Combat locally and I have tried it twice at special fitness days but the class times don't suit me so have never really gotten into it. It is a very fast class with lots of jabs and kicks, very aerobic.

MrsSpoon · 13/02/2006 21:44

Quite like the current BodyPump music.

Lauraa83 · 13/02/2006 21:59

yeah the one with the 'do you really want to hurt me' and 'she drives me crazy' you mean? Everyone sings along it's so funny! Didn't like the last one with that olympia song what was that all about?!

MABS · 13/02/2006 22:10

I pump 3 times a week, hate the 'do you really wanna hurt me' track, but love the rest of it.

MrsSpoon · 13/02/2006 22:19

Yip that's the one.

My favourite BodyPump track/music in the last while has to be the Beds are Burning one for the squats, brilliant! Of course it always got changed to Legs are Burning.

MrsSpoon · 13/02/2006 22:20

MABS do you find three times a week makes a real difference? Do you do other classes too?

Cam · 14/02/2006 20:01

Thanks, Laura, I was thinking of Body Combat, see Mrs Sp, told you we are proper gym users
