Really chuffed with myself today.

Managed to get my running back to 20mins and also fit in 15 mins on the X-trainer, plus weights etc.

LadyTophamHatt · 15/02/2006 13:09

Phew.....exhausted today.

15 mins on the bike
15 mins tread mill
1000 metres on rower

Free weights(loads of them... 2sets x15 reps of various movements)
Leg press (2setsx16reps)
chest press(as above)
Lat pull down(as above)
Sit ups on gym ball (2 sets x 20, forward and backward)

I was absolutley shagged when I came out!

CoolTurkey · 15/02/2006 13:48

Gosh, I'm not up to as much as that yet. Haven't managed the gym since Saturday so will probably have regressed a bit, but went for a 12 minute run today. I am surprised to say I prefer the gym. Less tiring than having to dodge all the dog crap.

Passionflower · 15/02/2006 14:30

Have been pushing myself a bit more to get back to where I was after a week and a bit off looking after poorly DD's. Now I'm going to be trying to get past the half hour mark with the running.

CoolTurkey · 15/02/2006 15:25

How long do you think it will take you to get to 30 mins? I don't seem to get any better.

LadyTophamHatt · 15/02/2006 16:45

CT, do you mean 30 minutes running?
When I was member of my old gym I wasn't able to run for longer than 2-3 mintues without almost collapsing.
I logged onto www.runnerworld.com (or co.uk can't rememebr) and there is a huge section for runners who are just starting out. Basically they said that indurance is better than speed and to increase your running time by a minute or 2 each time(to start off it should be walk/run/walk/run/walk/run ). Within 3-4 months of being a "gym runner" I was able to run for 30 minutes solid. I wasn't the fastest in the there but I was a long way from the slowest too.

I'm following this method again now so hopefully within a few weeks I should be on my way to making it to the magical 30 mintes again.

Passionflower · 15/02/2006 17:21

I'm aiming to add three mins each time, five if I can manage it, so hopefully end of next week (four more trips to the gym in other words). at most conservative est.

Have got the wind up me cos DH has just started to take an interest in getting fit and he is running 9 miles after just five runs . On the road (much harder) as well.

CoolTurkey · 15/02/2006 17:29

Thanks for the link LTH, I think it is www.runnersworld.co.uk.
I like the beginners schedule it sounds a really good way to build up. Tbh I think I am too impatient - I was probably expecting to be able to run for 30 mins by the end of day 2!!

CoolTurkey · 15/02/2006 17:33

Hells bells PF, he must be very fit to start with. 9 miles after 5 runs??!!??

Actually, I started this running lark because a very unfit friend started running, quite out of character as he doesn't even like walking. When I asked him why running, he said it got the exercise over quicker. That made a big impression on me, sounds like my kind of execise. But find I actually quite enjoy it.

Passionflower · 15/02/2006 17:45

I don't know how he got to be that fit. He hasn't done any exercise for years - literally- and he was turned down for life ins after a medical six month ago (has since changed lifestyle and been accepted).

His boss is even more than me. He's been going to the gym religiously for ages and DH is beating him easily on long runs. They are working towards doing a half marathon.

Oops!

CoolTurkey · 16/02/2006 16:54

Just got back from the gym - 13 mins treadmill, 2 x 5 mins on bike, 5 mins the skiing-like machine (whatever it's called) , 5 mins arms cycling thingy (another technical term, sorry) and all the weights. Feel very virtuous and not too tired. [halo emoticon]

Passionflower · 16/02/2006 20:37

Well done CT. Am going again in the morning.

Passionflower · 17/02/2006 13:24

24mins running plus weights this morning but I did leave out the X-trainer.

MABS · 17/02/2006 19:00

I do 3 pump classes per week and i really think they've changed by bodyshape. I also do 2 LBT, 1 sculpt and a body combat but not every week. I also have salsa lessons which i adore. I go into the gym 2/3 times a week for 30-40mins but i NEVER go on the treadmill - I hate it and always fall off!!

Cam · 17/02/2006 19:02

That's because you have to keep walking or running Mabs

MABS · 17/02/2006 19:12

right Cam.... God I do wish someone had told me that before!! (you coming to play 11 march?)

Cam · 17/02/2006 19:44

Yes please, I think it's time I joined in again before you all forget about me

MABS · 17/02/2006 19:46

unlikely darlin' (have a look at the 'i've had a tattoo thread!!!')

LadyTophamHatt · 19/02/2006 17:10

Been twice since I last posted.

Ran for longer each time (if I'm not running on the treadmill I power walk (ugghh hate that phrase) on a steep incline). Today I ran alot more than I walked and it felt great!!

Racing the clock on the rowing machine and have decreased my time each time since wednesday.

Lots of difffernt free weights, sit ups on the ball, various differnet wieght machines.

I love being back in the gym!

chapsmum · 19/02/2006 17:15

anyone else find running makes their aherm...dribbling worse???

MABS · 19/02/2006 18:31

Yes I agree, another reason i don't do it!! Did pump on Fri and Sat, Combat and Step today. Am getting bored of the Pump music tho!

Passionflower · 19/02/2006 20:00

Well maybe a little , but that reminds me to exercise those muscles too. I have a friend who has a friend who had surgery to sort that out.

Cam · 19/02/2006 20:15

Finally got back into the gym on Saturday instead of nambying in the swimming pool. Cross-trainer and treadmill, I love power walking, it saves on the knees I find. Today I added in the rowing machine so am starting to feel human again.

Mabs, Tatoos on your bum? And with the muscles you must be getting from all that Body Pump, I'm thinking Lara Croft......steady on girl, you're a respectable married mother-of-two.......mind you, who knows what goes on at those parties in your part of the county
