Question for those who run...

I have started running on the treadmill and have noticed that I get a stitch much faster than when on the X-trainer. Is this because of my insides jiggling about more because of the impact? If I carry on will it lessen as my body gets used to it? It's really annoying because legs feel fine and I'm not out of breath but the stitch is holding me back.

mrspink27 · 11/01/2006 19:43

I usually really focus on my breathing and try and take really good breaths in through the nose and out through my mouth, heaven knows what i must look and sound like ( i cant hear cos of ear phones!!!) this usually relieves a stitch for me and helps me run through it. It does get better.

joanna4 · 11/01/2006 20:47

Sorry forgot to add went last night i really felt like i had achieved something. At least this time none of the machines freaked me by saying my heart rate was too high so i must be doing something right.

Where are the gym thread regulars? Is everyone down with the virus thingy?

Was doing really well till last week, but haven't been able to go since last wednesday because of caring for sick children.

Or has everyone slacked off? .

Cam · 07/02/2006 21:01

Went swimming tonight and last night, am trying to get back into a routine now but need to start gently again at my age !!

puff · 07/02/2006 21:03

I'm still going 3 times a week and am now doing classes as well as gym - body pump, total body workout, aerobics blast are the ones I have done so far!

Have picked up a nasty virus from ds1 so haven't been yet this week - get v fed up if I can't go.

Passionflower · 07/02/2006 22:54

Me too.

Have been doing so well with my running lately (I am so not a natural runner). That I feel like i'm going to be so set back by the last week off. It's very depressing.

moondog · 07/02/2006 23:25

Christ Puff.
You must be like the bionoc woman by now.
I thought my x3 attendance was good-!

Very bored by tedious music channel they show-every time i go it's plaing the sa,me bloody thing. Wish dh would sort out my new iPod pronto. Grrrrrr

Passionflower · 08/02/2006 10:20

Annoying isn't it! Had a MP3 for the gym for christmas and DH still hasn't set it up for me.

I know, I know, shouldn't need a man to sort it but I'm a complete technophobe.(sp?)

moondog · 08/02/2006 13:39

Bloody men.
They're soooooooo selfish!

suzywong · 08/02/2006 13:41

can I join in with 5x30 minute workouts to dvds every week?
I am sitting here in my vest admiring my arm muscles for the first time in my life

and does anyone have any good dvd/video recommendations., personally I think Jane F is the dog's, but I find Denise Austin somewhat scary

moondog · 08/02/2006 14:06

Suze..do you not get bored with it?
(Although it sounds like it'sdoing the trick)

Last video I worked out (ludicrous expression) to was Jane Fonda'scirca1982.

suzywong · 08/02/2006 14:27

Jane, she da Man

yes I am getting a bit bored with it now, looking for some new ones, but the advantage is I can do it in my pants, at my leisure and there's no excuse for not doing it IYSWIM

And my dinner lady arms have GONE and it is obligatory to wear vests when out in the day time here

MABS · 08/02/2006 19:50

still doing 5 days out of 7 - gym or class. Can't believe it really, I'm the laziest slag around usually!!

Passionflower · 10/02/2006 11:57

Am ill as well now!

Am so depressed cos I feel like I'm going to have to start from scratch at the gym next week - and that's if everyone is well again and I can go.

Cam · 10/02/2006 20:19

You won't have to start again, your body will "remember" that you've been exercising, the first time might be hard but you will get fit again quickly, so fear not. And get well soon!

Surfermum · 10/02/2006 20:25

Ooh please can I join in? I'm not going to the gym but have just started exercising again after having dd 2.9 years ago .

I'm cycling and swimming. On Tues I cycled for half an hour, the plan is to increase it and go to collect dsd from pre-school on the bike which is probably 20/25 mins cycle each way. Today I swam 1500m, furthest I've done since I started after Christmas and I did sprints at the end. Very pleased with myself. Am hoping to lose a couple of stone over time, and get back on my surfboard this summer.

Spidermama · 10/02/2006 20:26

I'll be forty in April and I'm dropping large hints that my present from dh must be memebership of the health club. I keep telling him it's in everybody's interests.

I've reached an age where I refuse to jog in the park for my sake and for that of other park users. The health club is the only way forward as far as I can see.

God this is one thing about being a SAHM with no money of my own coming in. I have to refer big spends to him.

I will rejoin you girls in April if all goes to plan.

Passionflower · 10/02/2006 20:43

Spider, you shouldn't have to have gym membership for your b'day! It is for your whole family's benefit if you are fit and happy. Tell youe DH it is good for the libido or something and you need it now.

Passionflower · 10/02/2006 20:45

Am feeling better this afternoon so have put DH on notice that he will be entertaining the DD's on Sunday afternoon whilst I go and work out. He can't complain cos he is doing an 8 mile run on Sunday morning.

brimfull · 10/02/2006 23:15

spidermama-that's waht I got for xmas.

I've got an off peak membership which works out at only £10.50/week.

It's great because ds is free because he's under 5,so I can take him swimming there ,and he loves the creche, although I have mostly been going while he's at nursey.

pebblemum · 10/02/2006 23:39

Hi all, can I join in.

After trying out a few local gyms over the years I have found the perfect one. It is ladies only, so no men laughing at you, everyone is so friendly there plus the way your workout is organised it means that yu only need to do 30mins workout 3 times a week. They gave me a fitness assessment today and from now on I will get one every month so I can keep track of how i am doing. Sorry if im going on a bit but I cant believe I actually found a gym where I dont feel stupid for being there. I cant wait to go back againEven Dh cant believe how enthusiastic i am.

Now all i have to do is cut back on the chocolate
