I thought I would start a thread for films from the 70s and 80s which you enjoy but most people have forgotten. Here's a few to start you off:

Rolling Thunder
Time after Time
Somewhere in time
Star Trek IV the voyage home.

I'll add more in a while,
Feel free to add yours.

FastTurtle · 11/11/2025 21:22

Paper Moon is in my to 10 film list.

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/11/2025 21:23

Don't look now. It was on last week. Brilliant film

MagpieCastle · 11/11/2025 21:44

Yep, Don't look now is one of my favourite films too.

Two other Sutherland connected films from 70's/80's I really enjoyed were Donald Sutherland's The Disappearance from '77 and his son Kiefer's early film, The Bay Boy from '84.

Sunshineismyfavourite · 11/11/2025 21:49

The Elephant Man. I've only actually watched it twice in my life but it is probably the most powerful movie I've ever seen and it has definitely stayed with me.

Kramer v Kramer

BarryKentPoet · 11/11/2025 21:52

Young Einstein. It was utterly bonkers but we watched it on repeat!

WonderingWanda · 11/11/2025 22:06

I don't think any of mine would count as lesser known but I have just been down a lovely nostalgic rabbit hole looking at 80's films. So many great films to chose from.

Fgfgfg · 11/11/2025 22:21

Repo Man
Heathers
Scanners
Hairspray - the original one with Divine and Debbie Harry

captainoctopus · 11/11/2025 22:49

Flesh Gordon - I saw it at the cinema but apart from the title I've forgotten it myself 😁.
Sex, Lies and Video tape.... it's good
but frankly I'd watch the shipping forecast on repeat if James Spader was in it

Stealing Home
Celia
Running on Empty
Shoot the Moon
10 Rillington Place

Classiccar1 · 12/11/2025 11:11

Did you mean Flesh Gordon, the naughty version?

They Might Be Giants
Aguirre
The Last of Sheila
The Marriage of Maria Braun

tobee · 12/11/2025 12:06

Yes to The Last of Sheila and They Might be Giants! The Last of Sheila really scared me when I first saw it. Love James Coburn and Richard Benjamin.

So many films to choose from in op's category. Depends on my mood which I'd choose in my lists, we could be hear all day!

tobee · 12/11/2025 12:10

I was looking up films recently from this era and where you can watch them. Was looking for films with Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson.

Oh there's also a great comedy one called The In-Laws with Alan Arkin and Peter Falk. Having said that I've only watched once when it came out!

The scene with Hoffman running with Billy after the accident is forever lodged in my head.
