Is anyone else interested to see what happens here.

They are going to announce the Oscars nominations around 1.30pm today. If you are interested you can livestream at Oscar.com, Oscars.org,

I am hoping for nominations for Demi Moore and Marianne Jean Baptiste in the best actress categories, and also hoping for a few other surprises.

Why is western society trying so hard to normalise sex work?

Hey Minty, where did you pop up from?

And you can only reveal it at 3.30am lol

Ha. I am in Australia so normal time for me! Best Actress? Pathetic. A mouthy sex worker. And I repeat - no depth to the characterisation at all! And treating sex workers like being a sex worker is a job is NOT NEW THINKING. Its been around for ages.

It is a job, isn't it?

See you all next year.

Yes, she was! But because she was taken in by a pathetic manbaby, not because she was a sex worker.

Exactly. A sex worker who thought some teenager with masses of money would actually fall in love in 30 minutes and want to marry. Right. Frankly - Pretty Woman had more depth

Appalonia · 03/03/2025 03:54

Nite all!

SocksAndTheCity · 03/03/2025 04:02

She was already a prostitute and very clear about being paid - he deceived her into thinking he wanted a romantic partner?

Her job is only relevant because it's how they met - women fall for bullshit like this all the time regardless of their jobs (although not from Russian oligarchs, obvs 😁).

SocksAndTheCity · 03/03/2025 04:03

Night everybody! If nothing elss, I need to get Flow and the documentary winner on my watchlist now. I feel like I've spent the entire last two weeks in a cinema seat 😂

VictoriaSpungecake · 03/03/2025 04:04

Just had to come back before I go to bed to remind you all that The Substance actually won Best Oscar-Nominated film in the (un)official Mumsnet Awards, which is far more prestigious than an Oscar. Congratulations Coralie Forgeat!!!

Regarding Anora, there's a website (Oscar Hookers) claiming that every female actress Oscar winner has played a prostitute, so the film's win probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise in sleazy old Hollywood.

newlifearoundcorner · 03/03/2025 07:45

ironic that Demi lost to a 25 year old woman, when you think about the substance and what it was all about!

RaininSummer · 03/03/2025 07:45

I am disappointed that A Complete Unknown didn't get honoured. Timothee Chalomet in particular. He embodied Dylan in that film.

Even meryl Streep?? lol

Well his other film (Dune) got 2 Oscar's and he seemed happy about that.

Five Oscars for Anora was hugely undeserved. I feel a bit sad for Demi - will she get another opportunity like this? It took her 40+ years to get to where she’s got to with regard to awards attention.

I agree
Anora was not Oscar worthy.
It felt like an episode of Skins to me.
I really thought Demi would win.

But she was just as bad. She showed him nothing of her true character, she just smiled and went along with everything he wanted - she was in role as fantasy sex toy the whole time she was with him. She was real with the girls in the club but slipped into an anonymous, characterless personna with the clients and they didn't notice she was barely there.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 03/03/2025 09:13

Anora. The biggest crock of shite I've seen in a long time. They get it wrong every year. Typical of Hollyweird.

Arran2024 · 03/03/2025 09:13

VictoriaSpungecake · 03/03/2025 03:29

Gervais should definitely host the Oscars. Now that would be worth staying up for.

Unlikely - he hosted the Golden Globes 5 times and went out with a huge bang offending too many people. Tom Hanks' face!! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3vuT8ki9yM4

It's easier if you are semi retired and have all the streaming platforms available.

Even easier if you have Odeon Limitless or similar.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 03/03/2025 09:20

I recommend Odeon Limitless. For £17.99 a month I can see as many movies as I like in my local cinema and in the West End.

Arran2024 · 03/03/2025 09:38

Yes I have it and I use it at least once a week. I was going to see Show Girl today but the dog is sick. Maybe tomorrow. I go on my own - most other customers are on their own during the day too.

burnoutbabe · 03/03/2025 09:49

I may do a 3 month min period next year with odeon then. I just bought cheap tickets via my employer portal (so £6 for Monday -Thursday)

Overall I spent

£15 wicked and conclave and dune(sky store)
£5 apprentice and anora and apprentice (prime)
Free substance /emila Perez/nickle boys
£6 brutalist /I'm still here/complete unknown (odeon)
£11 real pain (odeon luxe)

£89 total.

And all the first 5 were on dad's Amazon account so we both watched it over 48 hours and shared the cost. Was nice to do the challenge mostly with him.

That's a bit depressing.

I am going to admit that I really hate a film (and West End musical) that everyone seems to love "Pretty Woman". Even the title makes me want to gag. And I love Julia Roberts.
