Magnolia is Tom Cruise's best film

I really enjoyed Magnolia too I think after Born on the 4th July it’s his best performance

Magnolia is one of the best sound tracks too

Yes he is amazing in it, and his speech as Frank TJ Mackey to his dying father was based on his own experiences with his father.

LABYRINTH. Sorry for shouting, had to get that off my chest.

After about the Greatest Showman- but oddly, I actually love the soundtrack.

THANK YOU for mentioning Labyrinth, @gravitytester - I had a friend at school who was beyond obsessed with it, to the point she could recite the entire script off by heart.

She did this a lot. She wasn't invited to many parties, put it that way 😂😂

Steven Segal should have won an Oscar for Under Siege

powershowerforanhour · 01/07/2024 19:29

Roger Moore was a better Bond than Sean Connery.

John Wayne couldn't act for toffee and played the same character, badly, in almost every film. He was just about OK as Rooster Cogburn who was a bit different, but Jeff Bridges was much better.

I hate Withnail and I. I hate everything about it. I can't bear the way men (usually)get so excited by it. It's shite.

I agree I just don’t get it

I don’t find any of the Monty Python films funny and even less funny is people thinking they are funny quoting the films

Oh, that's interesting. It's not that I don't agree that people endlessly quoting pretty much anything are very tiresome, but why specifically Withnail?

(It's made me think about why I like it, given that I normally think of books, films and TV without any female characters are a real yawnfest.)

"Wes Anderson films are all style over substance and all basically the same"

The French Dispatch is on C4 now.

I've never seen it before, I've only watched about 5 minutes but it really is the same old same old.
Cinematography style, dialogue, music...seen one seen 'em all.

MrsAvocet · 06/07/2024 22:10

Both Top Gun films are garbage and the second one doesn't even have the saving grace of a decent soundtrack.

Life of Brian was excellent.

sausawyee · 25/07/2024 10:06

Avatar was a crap movie.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/07/2024 13:28

Not sure how anyone could not find Life of Brian funny (each to their own, obviously).

YankSplaining · 01/08/2024 23:01

My Policeman was, though not brilliant, a pretty decent movie. Three stars out of five. People watched it expecting it to prove whether or not Harry Styles can act, and were so eager to find his flaws as an actor that they didn’t realize which parts of his performance were stilted because his character is emotionally reticent. His acting in the film is solid but not spectacular. He didn’t deserve any special praise, but he’s not going to watch himself twenty years from now and cringe, either.

David Dawson was excellent and deserved so much more critical attention than he got. The film’s pacing is off at times and poor Linus Roache deserved meatier scenes than the script gave him, but it’s a poignant drama that explores how 1950s society shaped the lives of closeted gay men and the women with whom they tried to be straight.

There are no good Tom Cruise films.

The Faculty was an amazing movie 😁

Yessss The Faculty!! "Guaranteed to jack you up!"
Barbie was ace!

Tarantino is overrated
Seth Rogan is unfunny in everything
Comic book movies are a giant bore
Live-action Disney remakes are a waste of money and time

Needhelp101 · 02/08/2024 16:33

I completely agree about The Faculty! Absolute romp.

Star Wars, A New Hope, is fucking long and tedious, beaten into place by the one which has just had its 25th anniversary, which I took my children to see at the cinema on its rerelease and nearly died of boredom.

Ditto Monty Python,The Holy Grail. Although still love Life of Brian.

The Blair Witch Project was an hour and a half of snot and an anorak.

I have never wanted a Jason/Victor Crowley type to appear carrying large and sharp quite as much as I did watching that steaming pile of overhyped crap.

Aproductofmyera80s · 15/09/2024 23:03

Dirty dancing really isn’t that good…
die hard is defo not a Christmas movie…
ghost ship is such an underrated movie and should be given more hype.
