Home alone should have only done 1 movie

Barbie was boring and pointless. The America Ferrara speech was trite. Emperor’s New Clothes.

Edited

I agree.

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 19/04/2024 07:33

German-made films/series are generally a few steps above mainstream Hollywood films, in almost every way.

SydneyCarton · 19/04/2024 07:36

Agree about Tom Cruise films but he is surprisingly funny in Tropic Thunder

Rose was a bitch for letting her mother believe that her only child was dead.

Johnny depp isn’t a good actor

I feel like he's one of the few good actors these days, alongside Liam Neeson, Daniel Day-Lewis, and a load of German actors such as Jonas Nay, Lars Eidinger and Tom Schilling.

Shit shark films are amazing.
Avatar was overhyped shite.
Twister is one of the best films ever made.
Grease 2 is far superior to Grease.

I’m weirdly delighted to encounter someone else who thinks highly of Twister. My DS has a bit of a thing for disaster films, but Twister looks beautiful, is well-scripted, well-paced, good soundtrack, and has some very good actors in minor roles (Philip Seymour Hoffmann, Alan Ruck etc).

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 19/04/2024 07:40

Oh yeah, and anything with Tom Cruise is utter pants.

MrsBook · 19/04/2024 07:44

Love a good low-to middle budget disaster movie. As well as Twister can I add Donovan's Peak, Arachnophobia and Lake Placid to the list. I'd rewatch these films any day.

Tim Burton's Batman films are better than Nolan's version.

Jessica Hynes is the most underrated actress. I love her in everything she's in.

My unpopular film opinion is that I’ve come round to Tom Cruise, though only in the Mission Impossible films, where he’s essentially a well-known stuntman with Botox.

I have never found him in any way attractive, and loathe the early, sex symbol stuff like Top Gun, and the ‘serious’, mid-period stuff, and one gathers he’s a loon, but I find the Mission Impossible films quite likeable. Though in fairness, that’s probably because I like lots of the other actors in them, and I’ve always thought Ilse Faust should have been the lead. (Which makes what they did to her in Dead Reckoning Pt 1 even more outrageous…)

Judellie · 19/04/2024 07:51

I loved Barbie. I only went to see it because it was on the news that it had been banned in Algeria so I went to see why.
Still not sure actually unless it was because it was about women/girls and their lives, rather than centred on men, but I LOVED it. Saw it twice.
Sequel will probbaly spoil it tho, sequels are always rubbish.

PermanentTemporary · 19/04/2024 07:53

Actors and actresses fucking up their faces makes most films unwatchable as a sequence of ageless puffy blimps mumble lines at each other from immobile inflated lips.

Never watch anything billed as 'a meditation' on anything, it means there's no plot and is usually some male wanker doing a 2 minute perv shot of a very young woman (occasionally a very young man) being alive and therefore obviously asking to be rogered by said wanker.

Austin Philips is only believable as an alien.

SomethingFun · 19/04/2024 07:53

Grease 2 is better than Grease.

The last hyped/ award winning film I saw that was any good was Parasite.

LeaveTheClocksAlone · 19/04/2024 08:14

Tom Hanks can't act for shit

(Just kidding. He's amazing) ❤️

Mothership4two · 19/04/2024 08:24

@Luckydog7

Both avatar films were shite, the whole world went crazy over them, the hype was nuts and I was just left scratching my head.

Me too. Looked nice but lame story.

onawave · 19/04/2024 08:29

@PaperStarred exactly, it's the full package of a film. My compliments to you and DS on your excellent taste in films.

Oh heck, you reminded me that I missed him from my list of decent 'Hollywood' actors - he's brilliant. I watched The Green Mile again the other night, and he is so good in that.

StarvingMarvin222 · 19/04/2024 09:37

I said this on another thread.
Heath Ledger was a crap Joker.

StarvingMarvin222 · 19/04/2024 09:45

Houselamp · 19/04/2024 06:05

All star casts are awful. When a film has too many famous people in it its hard to get immersed in the story. It's just like watching a group of people at work doing their acting jobs rather than seeing them as characters. I much prefer a film full of unknowns or at least people who haven't been in much.
Same as when they do a lot of promo stuff and talk about funny things from behind the scenes. I don't want to know about behind the scenes because then I think about it when I'm watching The Scenes and it ruins it a bit.

Thank you.
I feel the same.
I watched American Hustle and it should have been fantastic.
But it was the most boring piece of crap.
Even Amy Adams couldn't help the film and I love her.

CassTheFox · 18/04/2024 23:11

There are no good Tom Cruise films.

The Faculty was an amazing movie 😁

Risky Business is a fun watch. Being a good feminist I ought to despise it, but I think it's great.

Me three. Yes, what's on the screen is sometimes captivating but the whole thing? Tediously dull.

Wishimaywishimight · 19/04/2024 10:34

I don't enjoy watching Meryl Streep I always feel she is "acting". The only time I sort of enjoyed her performance was as a ghost in Mamma Mia 2.

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/04/2024 10:35

Anatomy of a Fall is dull as dishwater.

Wishimaywishimight · 19/04/2024 10:35

Richard Curtis movies are twee, utter shite.

50yearsfreedom · 18/04/2024 20:52

Lost in Translation is boring wank shit. (Move over, Barry Norman.)

I thought this was the general consensus about this film?

OnGoldenPond · 19/04/2024 10:42

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/04/2024 20:56

Sharknado and a glass of wine is bliss.

Yes! Best film of all time! Grin

StarvingMarvin222 · 19/04/2024 10:44

Marvels first few films with Thor and such were good fun.
But they've made too many with too many spin-offs and it's just awful now.
