I'm sorry if this thread has been done lots? But anyway, whilst there are films that are bad and funny for it, there are films that are so bad they make you want to scream. I watched Aquaman the other day and it was jaw grindingly awful. I can't think of a worse recent movie right now but am interested to hear of any that can challenge that monumental pile of guano.

The second Sex and the City film. The first was rubbish too, but second one was so bad it made me furious.

Funkyslippers · 08/01/2023 16:34

I cannot bear Love Actually. It's as if the stories were written by kids they are so bad, particularly the Martin Freeman, Laura Linney and Keira Knightley ones. They are not remotely interesting or funny, just plain irritating. The only bit I like is Rowan Atkinson's 5 minutes

Yup that one really pissed me off!

Also 'Swept Away' was toe curling, made me quite ragey!

IHeartGeneHunt · 08/01/2023 16:36

Gladiator makes me angry, because almost all of it is so inaccurate that it would be funny if it wasn't taking itself so seriously. I know it's a story. I know it's fiction. But the armour, clothes, titles, weapons, names, and so much more, are all wrong. I even did a whole chapter of my Ancient Roman history dissertation on how bad Gladiator is.

IHeartGeneHunt · 08/01/2023 16:37

@Funkyslippers me too. Love Actually is shite. Saw it in the cinema and came out furious that I'd paid to watch it.

FuckabethFuckor · 08/01/2023 16:37

The Pitch Perfect ones. They’re just so cynical, like the whole thing was focus-grouped into being rather than created. Popular songs? Tick. Comedy vomiting? Tick. Fit lad flashes his abs? Tick.

I felt the same about the new Top Gun film. It was barely a movie, just a bunch of expensive footage and men thrusting at each other emptily.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 08/01/2023 16:37

The Dark is Rising.

And I only watched 30 minutes of it, before the rage overtook me and I pressed the off switch.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 08/01/2023 16:38

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. (The Book was shit too)

My Sisters Keeper (why did they change the ending)

The Shopaholic film (can't remember if it had the same name as the book. But itv was almost a totally different story)

Actually lots of book 'adaptations' that were nothing like the books.

Benjispruce4 · 08/01/2023 16:39

I loved Love Actually but that might have been influenced by the fact I was 8 months pregnant, it’s was Christmas and I was all gooey. DH wasn’t that impressed.

PermanentTemporary · 08/01/2023 16:39

Mamma Mia, obviously. I took my niece and gritted my teeth through it. Didn't care about the less than perfect singing, just the crassness of it all. A moment of enjoyment when Julie Walters got going was the only positive.

PopTartsAreLife · 08/01/2023 16:40

Black Adam. Couldn't sit through it.

Funkyslippers · 08/01/2023 16:41

Benjispruce4 yeah I think cos it's Christmassy most people get taken in by it. But Notting Hill has no excuse. Yes, I hated that too (but I like Hugh Grant)

MattDamon · 08/01/2023 16:42

Kenneth Branagh's god awful Agatha Christie movies. He's not as good a director as he thinks he is.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 08/01/2023 16:42

It Is In Us All.
Man goes back to his deceased mother’s birthplace, crashes car, killing teenager in other car, set about ‘finding himself’.
I really cannot begin to explain how utterly, utterly awful this film is. Literally everything about it is bad. The pretentious cinematography, the mumbling, the stunningly awful acting by the male lead, everything. Made me quite cross I’d wasted a couple of hours of my life on it.

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2023 16:43

Love Actually prime candidate

Greenland wasn’t too bad but the scene where they let him off the plane really bugged me

Theunamedcat · 08/01/2023 16:43

Gamer we daw the advert thought that looks like a good film no idea where the clips from the advert went it was FUCKING NAUSEATING

Also watchman fortunately we borrowed it as a dvd from a friend would never have paid to see it

Avatar long just TOO long in places

Lord of the rings, Lord what were they on about? Does it even corolate to the book? Does it make sense? No we are going to ignore gandalf and bugger off with a yotal stranger no-one trusts 🙄

So much money wasted my family wonder why I no longer go to the cinema

Flerken · 08/01/2023 16:43

We watched Event Horizon last night for the first time. I didn’t make me angry as such, but I was left a bit baffled as to why it has cult classic status.

OlleOskiFelle · 08/01/2023 16:44

Black Swan for being pretentious tosh.

It first came out when I was in my 20s it was legendary nothing else like it these days I would be ok with it but underwhelmed

JanesSadLittleLife · 08/01/2023 16:45

God I've seen a million shit films and I get over it and forget them, but I think the absolute worst pile of utter drivel I've ever seen is Last Christmas.

I love Emilia Clarke but even she couldn't save it.

Benjispruce4 · 08/01/2023 16:46

I’m hard to please film wise. Only watch things I think I will enjoy. With Mamma Mia I like Abba( child of 70s) and love Greece but hate musicals so it was 70/30.

Theunamedcat · 08/01/2023 16:47

MARS ATTACKS!
I forgot all about this one we all sat watching in horror paused it went outside for a cigarette silently for about ten minutes before someone cracked and said what the actual FUCK IS THAT we watched it to the end decided the producers were on crack

DuncanBiscuits · 08/01/2023 16:47

Happy Go Lucky - the Mike Leigh film with Sally Hawkins.

I wanted to put a stick in her bike spokes.

Cattenberg · 08/01/2023 16:53

I’m sure there are worse films than Moulin Rouge! but that one was particularly annoying because it had so much potential. It was set in Belle Epoque Paris, a fascinating time and place. It had some amazing sets and costumes. It had some great actors.

But the script was nonsensical and cringeworthy. The direction was confusing, so that we don’t realise when the characters are inside that amazing elephant room. What a waste! Baz Luhrmann tried to be too clever by including modern elements, (such as the Can Can dancers singing “Smells Like Teen Spirit”) which pulled the viewer out of the place and time. I couldn’t suspend disbelief and get into it.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 08/01/2023 16:53

Dd was a staunch Love Actually fan, told me I was a humourless feminist for hating it. (Have you met me, oh child of mine?)
She watched it this year at 25 with her fiancé. She said, “Mum, it’s fucking awful isn’t it?”
Far too many awful films, the thing that makes me really angry is the utter waste of money.
