I'm sorry if this thread has been done lots? But anyway, whilst there are films that are bad and funny for it, there are films that are so bad they make you want to scream. I watched Aquaman the other day and it was jaw grindingly awful. I can't think of a worse recent movie right now but am interested to hear of any that can challenge that monumental pile of guano.

Oh god! Little man. It's on Disney+. DD (9) put it on today. It's a 12. I'm pretty ok with 12's. It was horrific. Full of crap jokes that went waaaaaayyyyy to far! A 40 year old bloke pretending to be a baby and trying to sexual stuff with the women who were mums. 🤮🤮. We turned it off and watched jumanji instead.

Disney seems to be pushing some really dodgy stuff, not least queer theory. It's NOT for children.

Funkyslippers · 08/01/2023 19:47

Bustarold because it's a Christmas film. People will think they like all kinds of shit at that time of year

user8912 · 08/01/2023 19:50

@Funkyslippers completely true, like the music, it's nostalgia!

I watched White Noise on Netflix last night. Apparently it is cinematically brilliant, a post-apocalyptic dystopian comedy, that rates five stars. It was shit - the apocalype was forgotten minutes after it happened, the dialogue was so stilted that I thought it was badly dubbed, and as for comedy ... Don't waste your time people.

I tried. I couldn’t watch any more of the pretentious shite after that awful scene where they duet a fucking lecture about Elvis and hitler.

iklboo · 08/01/2023 19:56

Mandy - 'starring' Nicolas Cage. Just, no.

Jumper - crap & nothing like the (really good) book. Also Miss Peregrine and The Black Dahlia.

We switched the new Matrix one after seventeen minutes.

One my folks raved over & made us watch one Christmas Day - Waterloo. About the battle. Went on for about as long as the real thing.

Moulin Rouge - our friend was ugly crying at it. The only bit we liked was Tom Waites' Roxanne.

Dirty Dancing. Hate, hate, hate it with a passion.

Titanic.

Mulholland Drive - utter drivel with gratuitous lesbian scene.

DS(17) loves Event Horizon (we do too, to be fair).

Squiblet · 08/01/2023 19:57

As Good as It Gets. Jack Nicholson plays the most unbelievable arsehole - mean, smug, abusive, rude, manipulative ... and Helen Hunt (looking much younger) just can't help falling in love with him, for a happy ending. AAARGH. 🤬

sleepwhenyouaredead · 08/01/2023 19:59

Agree with Blonde being awful - misogynist and boring

Get Hard - crass and racist

Totally with @rookiemere about Belfast, ridiculously long, self indulgent and tedious, Judi Dench with a very strange accent and none of the NI humour. Only good bit was the music.

Squiblet · 08/01/2023 19:59

Oh, and the Avengers movie where Scarlett Johansson has almost nothing to do except get kidnapped and languish in her cell until she's rescued by the men. SO frustrating!! (it was pants in other ways too, but that was the one that really pissed me off)

SnowAndIceLobelia · 08/01/2023 20:00

Funkyslippers · 08/01/2023 16:41

Benjispruce4 yeah I think cos it's Christmassy most people get taken in by it. But Notting Hill has no excuse. Yes, I hated that too (but I like Hugh Grant)

Notting Hill irritates me greatly. There are some fabulous lines- but the sycophancy over someone who at the end of the day just has a well paid job and is on the telly just infuriated me. I can't watch it because i just end of shouting;'She's not the fucking QUEEN'.

God I've seen a million shit films and I get over it and forget them, but I think the absolute worst pile of utter drivel I've ever seen is Last Christmas.

I love Emilia Clarke but even she couldn't save it.

Yes Last Christmas is the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I had such high hopes as Emilia Clarke is in it but my God it was awful, especially the ending!

Definitely The Boy in tbe Stripes Pyjamas. It's so offensive, especially the ending - I'm kind of surprised it was ever published, let alone made info a film!

Wait what? How is it offensive?
I watcues it years ago so may be be misremembering.

Brad Pitt is a comic ensemble actor in the body of a leading man. Just watched Bullet Train, loved him in that, and Burn After Reading he is so good in. Shite at being a serious actor though.

Bullet Train is shite.

When the conductor and Brad Pitt are the best actors in a film and totally outclass the script, it's really time to switch it off and watch something else.

NellyTimes · 08/01/2023 20:06

The version of Cinderella that was recently made by Amazon Prime was one of the worst films I have ever seen. It was so bad that James Corden wasnt anywhere near being the worst thing in it, IT WAS THAT BAD. (James Acaster was completely brilliant in it though)

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Batman and Robin, which is surely the most dreadful film ever made.

Um...I do love Moulin Rouge though 😳

Well the main thing that is so offensive is that the big 'shock' ending is that Bruno ends up in the gas chamber with all of the Jews. Its like 'yeah obviously you knew that Shmuel and the other Jews were going to get gassed, so to make the ending truly dramatic and horrific the little Aryan boy has to get gassed too'. Like it wouldn't have been shocking enough if Bruno hadn't accidentally got caught up in it? It really pissed me off!

And also the implication that is was so easy to get in and out of the camp, but that the people in the camp were too stupid to realise. Plus the idea that the son of a concentration camp commander would be totally naive to what was going on.

ClaireEclair · 08/01/2023 20:11

rookiemere · 08/01/2023 19:25

@user8912 I'd forgotten about Blonde - so dreadful I couldn't watch all of it, and such a slur on the memory of a wonderful film star. I know it was based on a fictional book, but it was just horrible and a waste of a good actress as well.

I could get past the first half hour of Blonde. Hated it. I watched How to marry a millionaire today. Such a wonderful film and all the actresses in it are lovely to watch.

lljkk · 08/01/2023 20:18

I saw Love Actually 1st time in my life in 2021, it was ok. Harmless.

Some films are amusingly bad, they are fun to rip apart as you watch (Airplane vs. Volcanos or Sharknado, for instance).

So bad I couldn't turn away but I couldn't even enjoy how bad it was... I give you Fatman. Hinting at sexy Santa Claus & his family as gun lover nutjobs being stalked by a hitman (the elves join in the shooting & dying, too). It's so spectacularly bad it has to be watched to be believed that some studio actually produced it.

BridaBrida · 08/01/2023 20:19

Fight Club - just awful in every way. Brad Pitt cannot act and Helena Bonham-Carter was totally miscast. It made my skin crawl.

The Irishman - a near 4 hour long snoozefest. The most boring film I think I’ve ever sat through. Oh and the women in it barely have 5 lines between them.

Belfast - completely inauthentic and charmless. Jamie Dornan’s another one who can’t act and Judie Dench sounded Welsh throughout.

Braveheart - egregious nonsense.

Mary Queen Of Scots - see above, but so much worse.

50 Shades - do I even need to explain?

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 08/01/2023 20:20

Lucy - the only film ive ever watched and thought about the time id wasted and would never get back!

Sleepwhatsthazzz · 08/01/2023 20:21

Harold and kumar get the munchies. I can watch most rubbish but I was fuming how bad that was and it made the cinema. My bf at the time (now dh) I think took me to cinema to cheer me up over something. We still make jokes about it.
Snakes on a plane. Just sooo unrealistic when he gets stabbed in neck and keeps going

All of this.

And it just doesn't make sense. Why would a German child mishear Auschwitz (a German word I believe) as 'Outwith'. That only makes sense if you have an English accent, and speak English.

Likewise saying 'Fury' for Fuhrer.
Just nonsense.

lookslikeabombhitit · 08/01/2023 20:25

"Next". It has Nicolas Cage and Jessica Biel in it. There's a point where they're on some sort of reservation and a kid is talking to JB with NC in the background. Kid says to JB in a nauseating high pitched cutesy voice "I think he really likes you", shot cuts to NC whose tatty hair is blowing in the breeze, he's smiling like a horse and there's so much vaseline/soft focus going on that it's terrifying. Absolutely wet myself laughing in the cinema and had to leave. It was shite up until that point but unwatchable after it. 🤣

I still put that kids voice on and say it to my husband every now and then.

Bladedancer · 08/01/2023 20:26

Bullet Train. Every other word was F***g, the plot got progressively ridiculous and it went on and on and on:- was watching it on Netflix and gave up after 90 minutes when I saw that there was nearly as much again still to go!

Get Shorty, it's been a while since I've seen it and I'm not going to watch it again so I've forgotten precisely why I hated it. I think it was just boring but it got such good reviews. I think industry people, such as film reviewers, got what was being satirised. I'm not and I didn't.
